I think the second full Covid 19 lockdown in England pushed a lot of people to edge. 4 weeks of not being able to walk in the mountains was very difficult, particularly for those of us who actually NEED to be out amongst them. So this first walk was a much needed tonic for the soul and my goodness did it do the job!
Semi-winter conditions, beautiful blue skies and glorious views in every direction from almost the beginning to the very end of the walk make this a day that'll be hard to forget.
If you're new to the Lake District and can't decide which mountain you'd like to walk up first may I suggest you start with this exact route - you won't be disappointed! I've walked (and run) this route many times and it never gets old ('scuse the pun). A special place indeed.

Spectacular video Glenn! Incredible views on top of Old Man Of Coniston, even though it was busy up there. It's good to wear spikes if the rocks are covered in ice. I'm amazed that there's still some old machinery at the disused quarry, but no doubt a lot of equipment was taken over the years. Thanks for sharing, take care, Jordan.

Did this route yesterday (glorious weather after a disgusting few days) and it is as amazing as it looks - in fact even more so! That first glimpse of Eskdale from the top of Walna Scar Road is incredible. After that the whole Dow Crag ridge is great fun. We descended via Goat’s Water rather than continuing to the Old Man as we had a long drive ahead of us, but it was still one of our favourite walks. Love this part of the Lakes, it’s so interesting and different! Thanks for the inspo as ever ❤

Great video. I pretty much did the same route yesterday, but added in Brim fell as an extra peak. The strange part was only seeing one person from leaving the car park, to getting to the top of the Old man. After that it was extremely crowded on the descent past Low water on the return to the car park.

Well that's got to be one of the best 47 minutes I've spent sat on the toilet. Another fine example of the beauty of the Lake District combined with the dulcet tones of narration as wonderful as the mountains themselves. The intro could easily be a video in its own right, some absolute stunning drone footage. That said, it still really pisses me off the fact you have some shots with the drone flying backwards. I've told you before and I'm telling you again, it's not right! It completely detracts from the idea of a continuous progression. Time doesn't stand still, nor does it move backwards... I think I'd better stop, I feel a tangent coming on; and it's not moving backwards... No Mark! Stop it! Restrain oneself... Glenn, awesome video 👍🏻

@@BlackCrag Haha! No, I'm all good now 😂 On a slightly more sombre note, I went past some Herdwicks today and couldn't help thinking of how you ended the video, all despondent, with a simple "Hey, herdy..." It brought a tear to my eye, then I realised it was just a raindrop come through the window 🤷🏼‍♂️

A pet peeve of mine is how the Ordnance Survey has created name changes in the fells (and elsewhere). Dow Crag was originally Doe Crag, but a cartographer's misspelling has now been fixed and the pronunciation has changed.

Looks epic, at what point would you recommend crampons/ spkies? Looking to do some winter hikes! Thanks

Thanks very much 😊 If there's snow on the hills just stick some spikes in your bag, they take up almost no room. Put them on when you find yourself slipping and walking gets a bit tricky. If you're doing steeper stuff like proper scrambling (not Striding Edge) then wear crampons. But if you're just walking a path like in this video micro spikes are more than adequate 👌
