We really do rappers a disservice when we say their not relevant anymore. Pop, rock and country fans don’t do that to their artists. But let a rapper not put something out for 6 months and all of a sudden they’re, “old”. It’s so dumb lol

doesn’t matter. an artist that is “poppin” usually has a shelf life. rappers like Rocky, Tyler, Cole, Kendrick, Drake, etc. are still around because they have their own style and evolved over time. Music moves fast and you only have eyes on you for a small chunk of time. The biggest stars separate themselves from the rat race early and focus on their own art.

Meek Wale And all those dudes are in their mid 30s. Drake is about to be 37 their fans aren’t the same age as them their fans are kids born in the 90s-2000s. Rappers fan bases aren’t their age group majority of the time. Artists like Snoop 50 Cent Cube etc they are now moguls and stepped away from music to focus on a different path while coming back with a new crowd of fans plus retaining their core audiences that grew with them.

This doesn’t mean what he think it means necessarily. Most of those dudes he named either: 1. Started a family with women they actually care about or spent more time with their families. (Wale, Big Sean, Chance the Rapper, A$AP, 2 Chainz) 2. Got to a point where they could capitalize off their rap success and brand and delve into businesses that are more guaranteed than rap money. 3. They were doing both at the same time. Everything isn’t a fall off, opportunities arise to make life easier and easier, constantly diversifying your trap portfolio which allows you to focus on what really matters, family. The other dope artists that remained hot since that time that may have hit records and award don’t have the reward those guys do.
