This is certainly not the traditional way to play the pentatonic. Have you played it this way before and if so, where did you learn it? My teachers never introduced it to me this way so I'm curious!

I learned this years ago from a book called "Heavy Metal Lead Guitar by Troy Stentina." Once I got this under my fingers, I rarely used the traditional method - and still use it. Then I started wandering out further on my own which was really satisfying in the long term.

Awesome lesson, my friend! 100% seriousness...I felt so boxed in (hah!) with the classic pentatonic before learning the diagonal. It's really changed the game for me over the last 10 years and I love when people share their approaches to it.

When I figured the major and minor pentatonic like this I wondered why the hell no one was teaching it this way

It is really strange! I had multiple teachers and attended clinics etc and never heard anybody teach it until much, much later. Thanks for checking out the video!

When you just play the scale it kind of sounds like the prelude song from final fantasy 7. I think that song is in C though.
