If you say Shamsi is out. Then you have to agree that Dussen is not out. Dussen is a proper batsman than shamsi. So considering is factor can't argue on this LBW. Pakistani bowler gives so many extra runs as well fielder. This is main thing you need to look for.

LBW decisions still continue to haunt Cricket. Shamsi was 'more out' than 'not out' 70/30. Dussen was 'more not out' than out. 30/70. If you get two umpire's calls, one on the 'hitting inline' and the other one 'clipping the stumps', then you know it's a poor decision and should not be given out IMHO

But if Umpire had given out… technology will not show it as umpire call but as missing.. It’s all about margin of error of drs technology..

Waseem mentioned it. SA gave 19 extras while Pakistan leaked 21. Not a big difference. Too many dot balls hurt them badly. They made 270 runs in 21 overs as they played 23 overs of dot balls. That is why intent is so important in ODI

Pak shaould try following combination.. Abdullah Rizwan Fakhar Babar Saud Shadab Iftikhar Usama Shaheen Waseem Jr / H. Rauf Hasan Ali.. Abdullah and fakhar will slog and rizwan play anchor in opening.. If both slogger out.. Then babar will anchor and rizwan will slog... Babar and saud will play run a ball rotation till 35 to 40 over Shadab and iftikhar can shuffle and play as finisher... Like this they can complete 50 over by batters only and go for 330 to 350 target in each match

Last 21 runs when SA were 8 down, Pak bowlers didnt even bowl yorkers to tail-lenders and kept bowling outside off-stump for edges. Even field setup for them was not to restrict singles. Poor captaincy overall, DRS doesnt matter there.

World cups are not just for trophies, but they're also for players to turn their goodness into greatness... remember Sachin in the 90s, he used to play with such a fragile Indian team ... so many times he played with middle, lower order ... even with tail ender ... that made him great. Babar's innings were just good and will not be remembered.. he made three 50s in this WC, all in losing cause, had he continued in one of the innings till the end and helped Pak win ... that would have turned that innings into great and Babar's stature as a batter.

Babar's stats might be reasonable in WC with 3 half centuries but none of his innings has any sort of impact on his team ... even in today's match he made 50 which is good for him but had he stayed till the 45th over Pakistan would have played the whole inning and that would have been impactful innings not this one.

Amazing discussion as always! For me the biggest difference between Pakistan and other teams is the number of dot balls especially in the middle overs. It is extremely extremely crucial to keep going at least at a rate of 5 between overs 11 to 35-40 and keep rotating strike. You can power hit in the first 10 and the last 10-15 but knowing to conserve your wicket but at the same time taking singles is the difference between South Africa, India, New Zealand and the Pakistani team.

Dot balls are not a problem if you play like Rohit or Chris Gayle and have high boundary count . If you play like Imam ,Babar then it is a problem.

Totally agreed. Pakistan's middle order scorecard shows that they over rely on boundaries for run and taking twice balls for running singles. Eg: Ifthikar, Nawaz are the ones I am remembering.

One person says haris rauf's ball to shamsi was hitting the full leg stump but being a cricketer dont you know that DRS shows the ball's trajectory from point of its delivery. If you see haris rauf's bowling angle, he bowls leg stumpish delivery which wasn't stright. Umpire thought there was an inside edge so he gave not out.

Just look at the dot ball percentage of the Pakistani top order, Babar had 36 dot balls out of the total 66 balls he played and similarly other top order bats from Pakistan. Playing risk free cricket doesn’t mean offering a dead bat to the bowling but rotating the strike without the likelihood of getting out. The top order’s inability to rotate the strike resulting in a high percentage of dot balls and not managing to bat the full quota of overs, today they forfeited 20 potential runs since they were all out in the 47th over. They lost the match due to these failings.

You are correct. If the batsman allow the bowler to settle then it will be difficult to score runs. Singles and doubles instead of dot balls will be huge advantage especially during the middle overs when there is four fielders outside the 30 yard circle. Making mistakes is ok but not learning from the past mistakes and keep committing the same mistakes again and again is a big crime. How they are going to bounce back from this losses will be interesting to see? Before pakistan got inzamam ul haq, muhammad yousaf, younus khan, misbah ul haq, shoaib malik in the middle order who can play well against fast bowlers and spinners equally well but current middle order is too weak to handle big matches pressures. Mindset should be changed according to the modern day brand of cricket.

To beat top teams like South Africa you need to be on top of your game in all three areas. Pakistan’s batting did not fire properly today and I think that was the difference. Pakistan would have won if their batting performed today. Their bowling and fielding was outstanding. Not convinced about South Africa’s chasing ability

They are usually sensible. However, no technology can be 100% fullproof. Coz the AI generated trajectory, is an extrapolation, and subject to error. To minimise this error, 'umpire's call' has been added, to improve accuracy using the Bayes theorem of conditional probability. This has been quite thoughtfully done.

Lack of game awareness cost pakistan the match. E.g. nawaz going for big heave off jansen despite knowing he is the last batsman and jansen had only 1 over thereafter. Moreover 156 dot balls in an inning is too much in modern cricket.This team looks docile as compared to earlier pakistani teams. Fire, fury and flamboyance that was associated with pakistan team was lacking. Anyways they made atleast one match of this wc a nail biting stuff. Best wishes for aus tour. I am of the opinion SA started choking. Klaasen played a very poor shit and got out. No need for big shots when he got out and he hadn't even experienced the pitch that much. Markram got out with desperation trying to end it too quickly and leaving his team in danger. He should've taken singles and doubles and stuck around instead of trying to finish with big shots. Pak if they had scored even 10-15 runs more by just finishing the 50 overs, would've won the match. Pak bowled decently but it's more SA choking again. Thankfully Maharaj held his nerve more than Markram towards the end.

Pakistan disqualified because of the way they played their past matches. Today they played exceptionally well, and it was a matter of 10 runs and some luck !! 90s Pak level of fast bowling clinical excellence on display today !!! If they had played the same way in the past games, they would have comfortably been in the top 4, losing only on bad luck days (like today).

Not 90s level . They have heart and gave 100% but skills were nowhere close to peak Pakistan. If you bowl to tailenders you will look threatening for sure like Afridi and co. But any top order batter could deal them with ease and they just threw away their wickets.

Actually their batting wasn't that good. DeKock got out to a very stupid shot imo. Straight to the fielder. Almost like he forgot where the fielder was. Klaasen played a very unnecessary shot and got out. Maarkram got lucky many times and in the end tried to end it too quickly and got out. He should've stuck around and gotten singles/doubles. If he was there, they could've finished much earlier and with wickets in hand. They choked again. Markram even though scored 91, imo he gave up his wicket very poorly in the end.

Pakistan played well,but was unlucky, half hearted appeal against Babar got thru, and the umpire call lbw.😢....but it was really satisfying to be in the ground traveling 640km in a day..was a magical experience watching Babar,Said Shaheen and young Wasim from close quarters....the entire crowd was praying for Pakistan victory..but overall was supporting good cricket...have great memories of yester years Saed Anwar big century, Wasim Akram heroics...lots of ❤ from Chennai Tamil Nadu..All the best,better luck next time

In both cases of bating and bowling... Only Nawaz is responsible for the loss... In batting he gave his wicket when almost 4 overs were left and he was the only batter to play... If he had stayed till last over...the score would have been 290 to 300 ... In bowling he gave crucial 4 runs boundry to South Africa that ended the match... Very unfortunate
