The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast

A woman from San Diego, California shares a whole host of extraordinary encounters with people who took the appearance of human beings but felt decisively, not-of-this-world.
From a strangely terrifying family in a Walmart car park to a disappearing cowboy, you may well find that these stories strike a chord with some odd encounters of your own.
Perhaps the most intriguing of all, ‘The Hitchhiker’ may lead you to question what is really ‘real’ anymore. Is the Universe communing with our subconscious by way of metaphors and archetypes?
Some of the experiences described may be unsettling for some listeners who are sensitive to creepy content. These stories are not suitable for children.

I was at a busy city bus station in Ireland when I saw a man dressed in a green suit. I remember there was something odd about his height too (20 years ago). He had jet black hair. He was getting off a bus. As I got closer and walked past him I noticed the top of his ears were sticking out of his hair and they were pointed like a elf's ears. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, very strange.

Similarly, I remember, some years ago, seeing a young man who looked so very much like an elf or pixie. Ears pointed at the top, slightly slanting eyes, and smallish build. He was standing around a group of people, and I don't recall him engaging or looking directly at anyone. I was astonished by the amazing likeness to faery folk, yet, at the time, it never occurred to me that he might be! I live and grew up in South Africa, where the fae are not part of the European culture (except in story books). Now, having become interested in the good folk, the questions and curiosity about this young man are burning! Unfortunately, I cannot clearly recall where and when it was that I saw him (possibly, it might even have been while living in the UK for a time). If only I had had more awareness then...

@pennylane7943 I think once you have had an experience like this there is always a interest in these beings and a deeper and deeper connection to nature. I don't know if you have looked at Brian Frouds (English artist) books or cards of faeries, elves and such like but there might be something there that jogs a memory. I remember my brother always used to talk about boggart's (I lived in UK) years later I saw a picture of one in Brian Frouds book. You could probably search his pictures online.

While hiking in the mountain forrest in France me and my family walked on a trail beside the thick forrest. Suddenly we saw a man running from tree to tree, following us. Everytime we looked he hid behind the tree so we started running to get away from that part of the forrest, because we felt really really unease. When we got back to the car we drove by a busstop and the man stood there. Looking a our car. Strange because he was there faster than us. He was tall and thin. Strange it was.

I had a job in the Civil Service as an admin assistant. We worked in a building with windows onto a car park and it was pretty depressing. Then we moved to another room with a large picture window onto the street below which was the main entrance into the complex. There were many people walking about outside and I used to look out of the window when I was bored (which was a lot). One day I was staring out of the window and I saw a man walk past and he seemed to have smoke coming off of him. I mentioned that to my work colleague but she could not see anything. I then saw another person with the same thing, like a whispy grey plume of smoke trailing behind his head. Ever since then, if I concentrate but also relax my gaze I can see this shimmering smoky light around people. I would say it is a bit like those Magic Eye books of patterns that used to be popular where you have to relax your gaze and then you see an object appear in the pattern. I never see any colours though, other than grey.

QiGong changed my vision suddenly, so that i see a grey ring around people, slightly away from the skin......also a glow coming from the backs of passing children and cars. My hands also seem to glow against a darkened background, and now there seem to be beams projected from them instead. People now seem to glow out from that grey delineation, if I pay attention.

I saw a man waiting at a bus stop. Many people wear tattoos in my area, so that was not particularly odd. He wore green shorts, green Tshirt, green vest, with Ivy tattoos on legs and neck. All of his skin was pale green. He was about 7 feet tall. Still, could fit right in downtown. But there was something in his gaze that sent a bolt of vigilance through me. I wondered in my mind, as I drove past on the road, "Are you even human?!" And he turned and looked Right into my eyes in the rear view mirror, as I kept on driving down the road. Freaky!

(I'm a straight male btw, in my fifties at the time). I suddenly felt extremely drained, staggering on my feet, almost collapsing. I think this guy was a human being but engaged in very black magic or something like that. Perhaps yours could be similar?

I was 17 and living in a house that a lot of people passed through. I had nothing to give them but I gave them some of my clothes. They walked around the house. They kept saying thank you. It was normal and not normal. When they left I walked behind them because I was going out anyway. They were a bit away by then. They both turned round and looked right at me. Regarding the wild, wind-blown hair of the family of Irish people in the Walmart parking lot: in Scottish folklore, the fair folk are said to travel in whirlwinds. They also abduct people, animals, and items in the same way. I think this is also true in at least some Irish folklore. They may have looked windswept because they had just traveled in that manner. Also, the wide round eye description made me think of those people who have been found in anomalous disappearance (missing 411 cases). Those who go missing in that strange way but are found again often have a very spooky wide-eyed appearance.

I had many more experiences as a child and young adult. But since I had an nde, I sometimes see auras - not always. Immediately after it happened, I could see the energy glowing off plants - like they have an internal light source. I can rarely see it now - just occasionally. I'm much more empathic now.

I think sometimes you get those feelings when you suddenly see someone or something "out of the ordinary", that you are not expecting. We are so used to people looking and behaving in acceptable and commonplace ways that when this does not happen our senses are on high alert. I can remember years ago walking in a crowded shopping mall and looking to my left and sitting on a bench was an elderly lady but she had a full beard. Something inside me jolted and it was almost like I had left my body for a second, followed by the fight or flight feeling. It was such a shock and I can imagine a similar reaction to seeing a red-haired, wild looking Irish family in a mundane environment like Walmart.
@themodernfairysightingspod8421
@themodernfairysightingspod8421 10 ай бұрын
Yes, that is also a natural reaction we have innately within us because in evolutionary terms it's helpful for us to be on the look out for anything out of the ordinary. However, in this situation, the guest felt certain that this was something very different. An extreme terror reaction that didn't make sense, which both she and her mother (both sociable, outgoing women) experienced.

For anyone thinking little people cannot be ‘real’, think again. When I was young I presumed there was no substance to ‘ufo’ stories, then I saw a craft just 50 feet above my head when it went over my cottage roof in Scotland in 1989. An incredible experience, which gave me the truth of ufos for the past 34 years. Also, I saw a ghost in 2003, an old lady in the apartment I was staying in. No doubt at all about either sighting. And I’m no ‘crank’ by any means, I don’t just believe in anything anyone says. But one thing I do know, there are things about our world that we have no knowledge of. The supernatural. 👍🇬🇧

I think the lady may be a psychic medium. She would be a bright light (like a lighthouse) to spirits. I think she would benefit from learning how to protect herself and some training with a reputable medium if she decided she wanted to pursue it. My daughter used to see spirit and auras some things freaked her that she managed to close it down in her teens. Maybe she could ask the college of psychic studies London for some guidance too. Why do humans immediately fear those who are different ?
@themodernfairysightingspod8421
@themodernfairysightingspod8421 10 ай бұрын
It’s innate within us and part of our evolutionary make up to look out for anything dangerous/different as it may pose a threat. However I don’t think that is what is being referred to here. This is an extreme knowingness you feel with every ounce of your being, that what you have encountered is not of this realm. It’s hard to comprehend unless you have an experience like this. Even then it is very difficult to find the words to convey the strength of feeling.

I think you might be on to something....my late Gran ( who was Irish) used to always say " We're the Gentry!". I didn't really know what she meant by this; she never explained ( probably mostly because she was a bit odd, and towards the end was going quite senile, so other members of the family would tell her"shush", sadly). I'd always dismissed it, as I'd assumed "gentry" meant posh people ( and we're absolutely not!). Nowdays, I think she was trying to say that we're Fae. I had to laugh at your last line, as my Gran, my father, and myself definitely fit that description! I've never related to other people ( human ones, anyway ;) ).... they generally make me feel very alone. I only feel like i "fit in" with nature.

@@3leggedsharkkickssurferinballsI'm rewatching this podcast (which I agree is one of Jo's best ) and I'm coming to the same conclusion as you... IMHO, your Gran was absolutely right: gentry, as in the chosen ones. I believe Fae are human, and their genes are intermingled with certain lineages now. This guest has Northern European heritage, which is a key feature. IMHO, she is being observed because of her lineage...if she were to open up and acknowledge these transitory figures she's seeing, like your Grandma, she might gain a deeper insight.

Having your thoughts on making the channel it's fairly interesting that these things seem to be somewhat archetypal, trying to convey something like an impulse and in my impression also general characteristics expected of time travelers or dimension jumpers, carrying out their influence. Although i dont think they, as well as phantoms exist beyond the perciver, knowing that people think and experience in a spectrum of ways that might be reeeally not literal

Eye glasses work by relaxing your eye muscles through correcting the focus of the inner lens in the eye so that it is clear on the retina. They don't make your eyes work harder.

Thanks for your comment. I have a different perspective to offer. When we cannot see clearly it's because we are experiencing tension about something in our lives. Glasses, while they 'do the work' for your eyes through the lens, they keep your eyes in that same state of stress, so we end up identifying with that state of stress rather than coming back to who we truly are by naturally experiencing and 'seeing what we see'. So it doesn't allow us to reach our own clarity about whatever it is we are experiencing tension about. If you're interested in understanding more about this perspective, Martin Brofman explains it very well here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/leCPiKR1t8rPk6M.html

Anxiety can also be generated by an imbalance of the Adrenal Glands.

Thanks so much for your comment. My perspective is that everything begins in your consciousness. From this perspective, the imbalance of the adrenal glands or any other physical effects are simply the physical symptoms, i.e the physical manifestation of tension in the consciousness about something which is making you unhappy in some way. Using The Body Mirror System of Healing (that I use), the place that the symptom shows up in the body, will tell you about the area of your life that the tension arises. Anxiety is fear which is related to the base (red) chakra - this relates to areas of: money, home, job, trust issues, security, our relationship with our mother, and how we feel about being on Earth. One way to heal the anxiety is to change the situation you are unhappy about (either leave it, make some adjustments, or change your mind about it). Another way is to heal the chakra. Chakras act as valves in the body. They're not as dense as the physical body but they are more dense than the auric body. They in turn affect the function of the glands and the nervous system in that particular area. In this case, the base (red) chakra, relates to the adrenal gland. As well as anxiety, people may also sometimes experience physical symptoms in their lower body (anything from top of legs downwards, plus skeletal system and elimination system, lymph system and sense of smell). I know the Walmart your guest is speaking of. I went there once and felt that the area is an unbalanced portal. I never went back. Your guest seems to be vulnerable, and in my opinion would benefit from "psychic" training in order to protect herself, especially as she ages. I'm a little surprised at the naive attitude.
