100%, need insulation. Honestly it's probably best to insulate the whole building, and then create another smaller area for the batteries that is also insulated. Insulation is the ultimate passive system and pays for itself over and over. Don't forget air sealing and thermal bridging. Airseal (NOT with great stuff, use something like Prosoco R-Guard Air Dam or a polyeurithae caulk). If he can do foam around his studs he can reduce them acting as a thermal bridge. Best would be to fill the cavities with foam/rockwool/celluluse, and then rigid, then drywall (never have exposed rigid, huge fire hazard). Since he is in a wilderness area and subject to fires, rockwool would be safest but expensive.

I know you don’t read all the comments, but I’ve had Lithionics battery packs for the past six years and they are self heating. They kick on at 37° and keep the battery at about 40°. No need to do anything or keep the building at 52°. You definitely don’t need that high of a temperature, even without the heated battery packs. Good luck with this new company, but Lithionics is UL approved and has been around for a very long time. My van system is 1260 amp hours. I strongly recommend that you insulate that blue box before you put any more things on the walls or joists.

Good to note that the batteries do not heat themselves using charge from the battery. They refuse to take a charge. Then when the source power is available (Solar, Sunrise) and there is at least 10 amps, they start warming up the battery. Once the battery is proper temp, they start charging. (small print - I don't know much about anything. However, I did watch another video and checked out the Temgot page and I recently stayed the night at a Holiday Inn Express.) Based on this newly gained knowledge, I will be buying this battery.

Hi Eric Im writing from Canada , Quebec. Li Time has approximately the same self heating technology, much less bells and whistle , but 200ah. I bought one for my RV One problem to look for if you want to put your new battery to trial, is to charge them while using them and then stop the charging . On my Li Time, when I do that ( ex solar is charging then the sun goes away) , the battery BMS shuts off. The only way to restart the battery is to boost it for 5 minutes. I wrote to LI time and the only thing they could offer was to reimburse me … It won’t be fun if it happens when your gone away.

Since you were getting new batteries, why did you decide to stay with 12 volt batteries rather than go with 24 or 48 volt batteries. Just curious as I think I'm going to go with 48 volt batteries on my system. (EDIT) oh you got a couple free.

Eric I would still put a simple 1 inch styrofoam board under, around and over the bank for winter. You get clouds and snow for a week covering your solar panels those batteries might go dead. Then you have to jump start lifepo4. Can't do that from afar.

Eric, I know you always get suggestions for everything but I do see one really good improvement that would be helpful. Build a vertical rack(wood or metal) and mount the batteries sideways and and upward so you can still read the batterys' led panels and take up less floor space...right in that corner they are near would be a really good spot...just my 2 cents worth....I sure wish I would have waited for these batteries as I already spent on others that dont have these same functions...these look really good!!!
