Easy to following quick little tutorial detailing exactly how to tie THE perfect knot for dropshot fishing.
To be fair... I first saw this knot tied by Albin Sharghi from Kanalgratisdotse a few years back and it's really served me well, providing a massively high hook up rate from not just Perch but a multitude of other species too!
Really hoping you'll find this video a useful aid to your own fishing. :)

Just started drop-shotting as I thought that it would keep my 8 year old busy when out on rivers/canals. A very good way to tie the hooks as it makes them stick out in just the correct way. I was using the palomar knot but it doesn't keep the hook as rigid as this. one thing that I've been trying to do is keep the piece of line that goes to the mainline longer than the piece that goes to the weight but when creating this knot you need to set it the other way round as when you do the first twist/loop it reverses everything. Now I know this it's easy. Cracking tutorial

Finally, I see what I'm doing wrong. At the end I was putting the hook all the way through the hole and I always ended up w/a dropper loop. I see you don't pull the eyelit through @ the end and that traps the hook and keeps it in the desired position. Thanks Spikey!

I’m gonna try this when I go fishing in the Erie Canal next. I’m a KZfaq taught fisherman and went out the first time last weekend. I didn’t catch anything but because I’m not confident in my knot tying I’m fishing straight 6/lb monofilament. I have a spool of P-Line 15/lb high vis green braided line that I’m going to tie to 8/lb fluorocarbon… how do tie those two suckers together? I’ll probably just try a Texas rig at first because there might be some weeds down there and I’ve already lost two lure’s, one got caught in a tree (was a good Palomar knot) and the other knock-off 90mm whopper plopper snapped off but it was two hours in casting on the same 6/lb mono line. I’ve only been using my cheap Chinese tackle so far. Time to use my good Japanese hooks and bring out the good stuff… hopefully it will force me to make my knots better? Now to learn how to rig this braided line 🙄

@spikeymikeyangling6218

Hi. When I first started dropshotting I originally tried the palomar version but found it to be very inconsistent in that often the hook didnt present correctly. I was re tying my rig far to often to fish effectively. After much searching and trialling a few alternatives I saw Albin Sharghi from Kanalgratis demonstrate this knot. The hook up rate of this knot far surpasses that of the palomar variant too!

@@spikeymikeyangling6218 Hi again, although this knot looks increadibly good and does make the hook stand out perfect, it just does not have the strength of the Palomar knot. I do hate how the hook sits with the Palomar, but it is just so much stronger. I have tested at least 12 times this knot, done very carefully, well moistened the line and well seated, but it does not even come to 50% of the line strength. I am using 8lb flurocarbon and it breaks so easily. With the Palomar, I have difficulty breaking it. This knot might be good for small perch, but a 2kg bass will break this everytime. My search continues...
@spikeymikeyangling6218
@spikeymikeyangling6218 4 жыл бұрын
Hi again. Ithanks. I've noted your comments. I have to say although any knot will have an impact upon line breaking strength ive never had any issue at all with this one. To be fair I never tie this with anything lighter than 12lb flourocarbon. The venues I fish often hold the odd big pike... and I've landed many, along with the odd double figure carp plus many 5lb chub and barbel that have taken micro lures too. I also use this knot regularly for LRF sea fishing and have landed many species including the odd big bass, pollock, and wrasse... all hard fighting fish. I play anything I hook hard too. I dont fish light lines and consequently dont loose many fish. But hey, there are many different methods of attaching your hook and whilst this one works for me right now there are more ways than one to skin a cat. Good luck with your search and thanks again for your comments... it's what makes this all much more interesting. Tight lines :)

Ethan M palomars are too thick through small hook eyes. I have a particular small lure I use for big fish (zman trd tubes) that fit size 2 Ewg hooks, and 12lb leader material can’t do a Palomar through those tiny eyes.
@captnse
@captnse 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with Ethan M. I discovered the knot in this video for dropshotting about 4 yrs ago. While it does make/hold the Dropshot hook in a much better perpendicular to the leader position, its strength is terrible for light lines of 6-8 lb test for largemouth bass fishing, which is my target fish. I stopped making this “dropper loop” knot in favor of a double uni with the tag end coming back thru the hook eye from the top to finish the presentation. The double uni is incredibly strong and a better alternative (for me) than other dropshot knots. Also, a good number of hooks either have an unfinished burr on the end of its eyelet or a small gap that can rough up this “dropper loop” knot this yt video depicts...beware.

Thanks for shortening my learning curve advising the knot strength not being sufficient on smaller gage line. As a trout fisherman that uses 4-6 lb. So in addition to the strength limitation The 12lb test posses another serious problem in that the discerning trout are suspicious regardless how good your lure and presentation is. To bad its a deal kill as I really like the knot also Love the no choreography short video.

dropper loop knot is a good method of keeping hook hold on position, but much weaker than palomar knot. especially for mono line less than 10 lb that is use for finesse fishing. I'll continue keeping palomar knot for my 8lb drop shot line.
