I always add a bit of vanilla mixed in with the water and milk - it gives amazing flavour. You can also top it off with cinnamon, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia etc. - makes it extra tasty :)

I use bananas too but I mash mine up and mix it in so I have banana in every bite. I don't need to add any sweetener because the banana makes the whole thing sweet, and just a bit of cinnamon mixed in there too makes it wonderful!

When I cook my porridge I always put a teaspoon of (liquid) malt in it - it happened by accident once and I loved it so keep doing it! All week I have a simple porridge but one day a week I top it with (lots and lots of) chopped walnuts mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon (make a toasted, spiced walnut mix if you want to get a bit fancier and crunchier walnuts), slices of banana and a little bit of cream. Sounds really decadent, I know, but it's a treat you might like to try if you like those ingredients. Yes - sometimes a bit of maple syrup gets drizzled over the walnuts with the cream too.

This is sort of how I do my porridge, except I put a pinch of salt in after it starts to boil and simmer it for 2 or 3 minutes until you get bubbles that make puffing noises. The salt stops it from tasting like wallpaper paste in my opinion. You never put the salt in before the porridge boils as it toughens the grains. Yes, I am Scottish. : )

I started making alot of oatmeal after this video! At first I thought 3 tablespoons was little, but it turned out to be enough. ( Although sometimes I did double it, and I had to eat it in a longer time coz it was filling. ) My favourite combination so far is cocoa powder, cinnamon and honey. Also cooked it in 2 parts of milk instead.

Oats really helped me in my weightloss (lost 10 pounds in a month while juggling with a demanding full time job!). It fills me up and its nutritious! I eat them every morning but I'm always lost in finding ways to make them tastier or to give it variation. I usually put a teaspoon of cocoa and a teaspoon of agave. Seeing this makes me smack my forehead because BANANAS AND HONEY? WHY HAVEN'T I THINK OF THAT?? I'm making this right now!

I used to eat it every morning too because it's cheap but easily got bored, so had to find ways to spice it up. Experiment and good luck :)

lmaoo...that has been my breakfast since I started college😂😂..what I do is mash half of the banana with the porridge and cut the other half and mix it... that way its sweet enough and you don't need honey..also mix like a teaspoon of almond butter for extra flavor and protein😅😅

I do it in the microwave as it's one less pot with dried cement in it! Also use cinnamon because a tablespoon of it is 10% of your RDA of iron, and I have no issues using lots of cinnamon :p also a teaspoon of peanut butter perks it up

This recipe reminded me of a similar dish we eat in Mexico, and you can eat it hot or cold it's called “arroz con leche” it's basically milk and rice with sugar and a cinnamon. You fill a pan with milk then you add the sugar then the cinnamon stick, after a couple of minutes you add the rice and wait until it's cooked, the temperature must be low. You could either eat it hot, or leave it in the fridge overnight to eat it as a cold dessert in the morning. I'm sure you could level up this recipe!!! Loving the new season so far xx

There's so many different ways to make porridge. I grew up in Scotland, and ate porridge every morning throughout high school and university. Me, my mum, my aunt and my gran all make it different ways. I use about 1 cup of rolled oats to 2/3 cup of whole milk (ends up really thick), my mum uses steel cut pinhead oats, with two cups of soya milk and boils it for ages (ends up fairly watery, with gritty lumpy bits), my aunt makes it with 1 cup rolled oats and 2 cups skimmed milk (both more watery and creamy than mine), and gran makes hers with equal amounts oats and milk, with customary salt. My uncle leaves his overnight, and it almost gelatinises by morning - it's the only one I couldn't eat. I like porridge with salt, but prefer a sweet one.

I add a pinch of cinnamon to the dry oats and prefer roughly smashing the banana in the bottom of the bowl before pouring the cooked oats on top. Then a drizzle of honey and some crushed walnuts. The sweetness of the mashed banana mixes with the oats to cover the blandness without creating extra dishes! I love cooking but hate washing up :p

Sorry guys, I've been a Sorted fan for years, never miss an upload (I even bought the cookbook a couple of years ago) but this "Honey Week" this is a little bit half-baked (wordplay!!!) if you don't mind me saying :/ With this, plus the grilled cheese, it's a lot of just ordinary recipes with a bit of honey drizzled over them. The ice cream worked quite well because the honey was implemented into it. The halloumi stack worked very well though, since aubergine on its own is pointless, so the honey adds something necessary to the dish. I don't want to be negative, just giving constructive criticism, because I think the idea of having the whole week centred around a theme is a fantastic idea.

I know it's not necessarily laborious but sticking it in a microwave means you haven't got a saucepan to wash later in the evening - dried, stuck on porridge is as stubborn to shift as dried, stuck on scrambled egg!
@SortedFood

Definitely worth washing straight away... the porridge is too hot to eat immediately anyway. So rinse and wash out the pan once you've served. Only takes a few seconds and you're right, much easier than later when it's all stuck!
