And any line cook, let alone chef, should/generally know that you have a lot of hope to jump through before it is shelf safe/ perishable

@@deeteee1902 if you make it into a powder it's almost flavorless and great for color. I use it for cakes and desserts, less for pink, more for deeper fuschia to purple. This whole thing confuses me just use beet powder. So many commercial products already do lol

@@priscillaspets no because usually they claim “results may vary”. But if the skincare line was editing the color or look of the product and selling something different then that can be false advertising. But the gray area is larger for the “results” claims

At this point I am not sure. I do think that this is highly possible yet the newest howtocookthat video had a good overlook on it and stated Something that freshly made sauces with dragon fruit are hot pink and after 2 days they turne really pale. But I think she rather coloured it than make sth fresh every time😅 hope I made sense😂

I’m not the biggest fan of Pi based on how she handled herself through out all this, but that’s not necessary true. Ann Reardon (how to cook that, and she has a degree in food science) posted a video on this, and using just (powdered) dragon fruit, water, and oil, she managed to get a mayonnaise like sauce that was bright pink, but lost a lot of that vibrancy after a few days. She then says Pi adds things like garlic and chilli and other herbs and spices to give it more flavour, which would obviously make the pink less vibrant because you’re adding more brown colours to the sauce. Basically, when Pi was making it at home in her own, it was such a vibrant pink because she made it right away and could eat it shortly after making it because it was still food safe, but would expire after a few days. Now she’s with an actual company or whatever making it, by adding the preservatives and other herbs and spices to it, it looses that deep pink color it was so well known for. So there is a way to SAFELY make it bright pink like it originally was, but likely not a way to keep it bright pink AND safe for consumption for more than a couple of days

How to Cook That youtube channel covered this. She made the sauce and got it that super bright pink and found that the color just naturally fades over time. The dragonfruit just doesn’t hold up. So it may be that Chef Pii is eating the sauce after it’s made and by the time it gets to customers, it’s lost a lot of it’s color. it’s interesting and Ann Reardon breaks it down and explains it better. I don’t think Chef Pii is putting any food coloring after seeing someone recreate it to the same vibrant pink.

It actually is. She broke cottage food laws; she was not legally supposed to ship this sauce across the country from her home. In order to ship it cross country, she needed to be in an actual facility. But the FDA can’t exactly track down every mofo that ships food out of their house so she must have flown under the radar for a while.

@@nocturnenix ummmm because there are.... Non red tomatoes? You can purchase yellow tomatoes of various sized. And some some deep red toned ones. So adding a tiny amount of colorant is whatever. Chef PII was (as far as we know) using lots of dragon fruit puree which IS NOT GOOD for the human body.

This is just my thoughts but, all Ann did was show that you can make a sauce with the ingredients on the bottle. She never tasted the og pink sauce like a lot of ppl. Now all Ann has to do is taste the og sauce and compare it to hers. If it tastes similar then we'll know for sure that the pink sauce is used only with the ingredients on the bottle. Or if someone else would like to make Ann's version and compare to the og sauce then that will be perfect. So basically Ann could have created a whole new recipe and Pii can easily take it and pretend she was making that b4 since Ann's vid is out. So until someone makes a taste comparison with Ann's sauce and the og pink sauce, I'm still gonna think that something is still wrong with the og pink sauce. And considering Pii didn't know what FDA was, would she really know that dragon fruit Could be and emulsifier?

Came here to say this! What a great video, so well researched. I'm seeing a lot of comments about using beets instead of dragonfruit, but as that video taught me, dragonfruit is acting as the emulsifier in the sauce.

You’d be wrong. I used to use acai and dragonfruit (both the frozen form of the fruit, as well as dried and freeze dried powder form) to make different smoothies, and raw desserts. I even made pop tarts with coconut sprinkles dyed with different powders. I can assure you that you can go from a pale pink all the way to a vibrant pink or purple depending on the application used. Hopefully you’ll listen to me, an internet stranger and life long cook, that it is entirely possible and probable that she used real fruit to get her sauce to that shocking manic panic fuchsia color.

@@janesays1278 idk man I’ve never even seen a dragon fruit in person. I feel like if it’s so inconsistent in colouring the only way to keep her consistent bright pink colour would be added colouring. Makes sense for the mass produced stuff to not be consistent but the stuff she made herself has been almost consistently the same bright pink. Girl didn’t even know she needed FDA approval to sell. Doesn’t seem very chef like to me. I’m not even a chef and I knew food and condiments needs FDA approval. I question her “Chef” credentials.

Pepto Bismal _might_ have a trademark on that color but it would have to be for specific applications. Like, they don’t just “own” the color outright, they would “own” it in regards to certain products. I think the applications that would apply here might be something like, liquid medicine or stomach aid chewables. For example, there’s a certain color that Barbie has a trademark on but only as it applies to 34 different categories and not just outright. I hope I wrote that so it made sense. Basically, Pepto probably doesn’t have a trademark application for food sauce.

I think if Pepto bismol has a trademark it will only be under the category for drugs as it's necessary to be able to distinguish different drugs properly for safety reasons of the customers who might be not be read. Otherwise i don't think it applies to food products because bubblegum flavor products have similar colors

The issue is that the dragon fruit that makes it bright pink only makes the sauce that color when it’s freshly made. After a day or two the sauce turns a peachy color. A good scientist made the sauce using the ingredients on the bottle and proved this.

When the original buyers of the pink sauce did their first taste tests / review videos almost every single one of them showed that the sauce didn’t come looking as pink as the sauce in Pii’s videos. This is nothing new. It was arriving to people this color before the new company took over production.

The one she’s selling looks like all the “special” sauces being sold in fast food. Lol

Yup, I remember! Heinz came out with Blue and Purple and Green Ketchup (and maybe other colors) in 2000. My parents knew that I was a ketchup fiend, and we went to go buy the purple one…I could literally taste the food dye…then back to the store for a green bottle…could only taste acrid food dye. My parents couldn’t taste it at all. That’s when we confirmed that I’m a super taster…that stuff was inedible!
