I just finished the first volume after picking it up and simply not wanting to put it down! As a young woman with autism I found some of the moments genuinely moving and heartbreaking. Thank you so much for creating this and I can't wait to read the rest!

Yesss this is what i've been waiting for. Another great one Nick. All the little insights especially in the beginning were really interesting, the page with the little kids stuck in my mind ever since i read it, so it was great to see you talk about it in detail.

Probably said this before, but you are really good at world building. So much detail that most people would not think of. I would like to write stories too, but I over flesh out the world stopping me from putting pen to paper.

Something I've always like aesthetically about the series is how the main good guys like the navy have ship vaguely inspired by sea creatures, like how the Balena looks kind of like a humpback whale, Pristidae looks like a sawfish, and Limulidae looks similar to a horseshoe crab, whereas the Barrakuda Gang's ships are directly built to look like sea creatures, with huge claws, spines, fins and even teeth. Especially in cases like volume 5 where you see the "veins" in the Dolche Kiefer's walls acting like blood vessels. Cool dichotomy between the two sides.

I think you mean volume 5? But yeah. Out of all the navy/civilian ships, the Limulidae might be the most pirate-like.

Been watching your stuff about lego. Youre very articulate in the way that you use words extremely precisely yet also sharply. You never dwell too long on a subject, you never get flowery or burdened by large descriptions of things. You reminded me very much of my brother, which yes, has autism - In the best of ways! Ive found out that by talking to people who have autism that many are very concise and succinct, detailed and efficient without being verbose or pedantic. I dont know, its just something that plagues me being a writer myself that I envy others for having with an almost super natural ability. Your graphics seem very creative and reminds me of water world if it was done better. I havent seen your new stuff so I wont comment on the artwork - which is quite adequate and some pannels are done very well (from what Ive seen), but I'll congratulate you on taking the first step so many of us dont: actually starting. Ive been trying to write graphics for a year or two now but Im still focused (very heavily) on the story and refining my drawing skills. I know I sound like every artist when I say that, but for me, I know Im capable of putting a lot of detail into my work and Im just pushing to make that a reality every day. Its taking some time to get acquainted with the digital medium and other stuff, but I know I'll get there. Keep up the work! Im a fan of the lego content, even if im not a fan of lego... if that makes sense. I'll show this to my brother he might think its cool, although, knowing him, he'll probably say he doesnt care about legos or water world. You have a great day Nick.

I admit, I cringe a bit when people bring up Water World because... well, but I've never seen it, but I've heard it's not very good. Believe it or not, I did used to ramble and fluff up my speech. It was only over the course of writing for years and years that I gained a general grasp of how people speak. Even in this book, the dialog goes on longer than it needs to, not nearly as concise as dialog in later books. The panel layouts will also become more dynamic. Better colors, expressions, etc. We all have to start somewhere.

I don't know jackshit about autism and all of that, and as a future teacher it's a bit of a shame, like real shame it is also quite hard to find fictionnal media talking about it, but I am glad to see that there is some, like your project I wish you all the success possible for it ^^

I like that you make the people actually afraid of the pirates, and that they have ways to prevent attacks, 'cause if the captain decided to maintain the course it would make the pirates seem like less of a threat, but the fact that people actively try to avoid them makes it so they actually are a constant threat to the people of this world, I also like that you integrate your previous mistakes from writing as pieces of lore Tho I also have a question: how often do things like typhoons and stuff happen? 'cause there aren't any mountains or surfaces to disrupt the flow of air, and what about tremors? do they still generate tsunamis and problems for the ships?
@NickonPlanetRipple
@NickonPlanetRipple 2 жыл бұрын
Storms can be VERY rough, but bigger ships like the Balena can just dive to ride them out. Small fishing vessels and taxis that lack diving capabilities are kinda screwed if they don't find a large ship to dock inside of. As for tremors....... I haven't actually thought about that part much, though there is a lot of tectonic activity in Minnow's time. It's why land is coming back. The new islands are being "pinched" between plates and pushed through the surface.

Fun fact one of the largest study's on autism and genetics shows that . Autistic people care a lot of beneficial genes related to neurological traits. The problem is that they interfere with each other creating weird neurological combinations. So in reality you actually want autistic people to breed because some of their neurological traits that are beneficial will be passed on it's simply the fact that they have too many specific neurologically altering genes in one person that causes the weird effect we call autism which is fascinating.

I honestly think that your interpretation that we would have a different form of religion that has grown and changed from what we know now but some elements are still retained 30,000 years from now is really optimistic. The first baby steps of what we call the garden of Eden story in Genesis is from the epic of Gilgamesh and that's only 4,200 years old. So in almost 10 times that I'm out of time almost nothing of modern religion other than some very basic things that seem to be universal would still exist.

Warning! Rambling!: About (around) 7:30: I understand the idea of wanting to cure things like total mental disabilities (I know a guy who stengled himself in the womb and now is mentally stuck at the age of 2). And I can understand his parnets and other people hoping that in the future problems like this can either be cured or prevented. (I know this has nothing to do with genetics, it was an accident, but the result exists in other forms as well.) But thing is, people like that will never enter the dating pool. But why keep people that stray form the norm away from "breeding"? I mean, we let sociopaths and psychopaths have children, and I'd ague that they stray from the norm. Or should i not be allowe to have kids for the severe adhd I have? I never understood the arguiement. Never will.

Honestly I think it's pretty cool, myself. There's clear understanding of fundamentals, and the DA folks are the new generation of artists anyways, whether one likes that or not. The internet is a historical art influence like any other, and I kind of like seeing that influence in art. There's some darn good stuff on DeviantArt, after all.

@@sirreginaldfishingtonxvii6149 this is true and i know that, but we all know what "something from Devianart" means. It's like "this looks like a Unity Game". Unity is a powerful engine that runs a lot of beautiful games, but we all know what it means when someone says the phrase.

I only have one incredibly nitpicking complaint about the artwork in this. Why is the merfolk woman wearing a bikini. Aquatic humanoids would not wear clothes.
