The Polish-Lithuanian union lasted over 400 years. In 1619 the Polish-Lithuanian state was the second biggest country in Europe. During the battle of Grunwald in July 1410 the combined power of Poland and Lithuania crashed the might of Teutonic Order - find out more about interesting facts from Polish history.

My Lithuanian brothers fought well. The hussars dominated as the most feared warriors. I remember the history of 950 polish-Lithuanian knights against 11000 men... outnumbered 11 to 1. They still won and destroyed the enemy! Now that is power !!!!

It was great times. United we stood divided we fell. Sadly many Poles thought that Lithuania was their region while Lithuanians thought it was brotherhood of two equals and not being subjected by Polish rule. Now relations between our nations resembles divorced family. We should get along instead of bickering about our differences. because we do have more important common threats.

The 1385 was a personal union but that is all, the Commonwealth emerged in 1569 after the Lublin Union, can't believe how many times have people mixed these on youtube.

Strange question perhaps, but given that both Poland and Lithuania were held in a personal union (and later even in a real union) why not 'elevate' Lithuania to the tier of a kingdom as well? A kingdom was much more prestigious than a duchy in medieval society.

The pagan Lithuanian duke becoming king of Poland this video talks about was in conflict for the Lithuanian throne(with his cousin - Vytautas). Jagiellon imprisoned Vytautas and his brother. The brother got killed, but Vytautas managed to escape and raise an army. When he confronted Jagiellon, Jagiellon pretty much gave in to his wishes and allowed him the seat of grand duke of Lithuania, while he was king of Poland. They led their respective armies which won at Grunwald against the Teutons. Late on, Sigismund of Luxembourg gave the grand duke such an offer in Lutsk. Probably seeking allies to fight Hussites and Turks. However, the pope did not bless this action. The Holy Roman Empire was made up of many lands ruled by powerful dynasties. This was an odd offer, because the map of European royalty hadn't changed since the 13th century. The pope knew if he was going to crown the grand duke of Lithuania as king, then surely the dukes of Burgundy in HRE will be outraged that the pope refuses to honor them in the same way. Crowning of the grand duke would've meant a different dynasty rising to power, which is something nobles on the Polish side were wary of. As they knew this might lead to a conflict for power and hurt their established positions, also possibly rip the union apart.

Still, a crown was made in Nuremberg(that's where the best craftsmen were in Europe). The first delegation(which was carrying gifts and was supposed to introduce the procedure of the upcoming crowning to the grand duke) was stopped when trying to enter into Poland to reach Lithuania. The 2nd delegation, which was supposed to carry the crown to the grand duke, after find out the first delegation was stopped - turned around and returned to their palace. In just a little over a month, the grand duke of Lithuania died, leaving no male heirs to continue the dynasty. And after the union of Lublin, 1569 - it was in law, that the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania are one and the same person anyway and no such thing would even be possible anymore. It was basically, de facto, one state. By 16th century chronicles of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania state that the crown was melted down and used in making the crown of Krakow even. But nobody knows for sure what happened to the crown.

Either way works. It's not 'making them Polish'. In fact, that family themselves had mentioned that even though they're Lithuanian, they should use Polish. You're talking from the perspective of modern day nationalism, which didn't exist back then.

That's because the successor of Grand Duchy of Lithuania is current friendly/Slavic Belarus and their official language was Rusyn. In GDL were only a handful of Lithuanians/Samogitians.
