I know shipping stuff can be stressful as you worry about your precious items getting lost. However, at least for me, that's not as common of an occurrence as we might think! (It's actually never happened to me!)
Everything I've learned from my years of experience is completely free here, no gimmicks, no paywalls. Actual shipping losses have always been rare for me. Probably no more than once a year internationally. Twice in even rarer scenarios.

I sent a letter to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) in Washington, DC, using the address provided on the BEP website. A week later, the letter was "returned to sender" because the address was "vacant"! Now don't tell me the USPS in DC doesn't know where the BEP building is! I don't know who is more incompetent -- the USPS or BEP. I also had 3 letters mailed at my local USPS that just disappeared. When I complained, I just got a shrug of the shoulders -- nothing they could do. This is why I pay bills online, whenever possible. Also why I'll pay more to send packages via UPS or FedEx whenever possible.

Government incompetence at every turn! Meanwhile, folks think the same government that runs the Post Office should control every aspect of our day to day lives.

I once read that a letter addressed to New Mexico was returned for lack of sufficient postage to a "foreign country"

Can I ask a question about the year show in books? Some are on the title page and others are on the page before that where it says “entered into congress” I am looking at two books. Both are same title. Same year. One has fancier cover but no year on title page. Just the page before it as described above. I wish all books to present day had the year on title page. Also usps…. I get other people’s mail all the time. So I wonder what mail with extremely personal information ends up at other homes.

Alright, so the rule of thumb is that the most recent year printed in a book is usually when it was printed. (With some exceptions.) The ones that have the year on the title page are usually reprintings, they'd change the year around as needed as they make more books. That let them keep all the stuff the same for the printers since printing was so complex back in the day. I have yet to figure out what the congress thing means for its age, but it does, as far as I know, have to do with the book being added to the Library of Congress.

And yes, I've had the same thing happen many times. Got neighbors who actually keep our stuff that gets misdelivered to them too, which is annoying.
