Being authentic doesn't mean being perfect; it means being true to who you are and striving to live in a way that aligns with your core values and beliefs. Authenticity is often valued in personal relationships, leadership, and various aspects of life because it fosters trust, genuine connections, and a sense of being real in a world that can sometimes feel artificial or superficial.
An authentic person is someone who is true to themselves and their values. Authenticity is about being genuine, honest, and transparent in your thoughts, actions, and interactions with others.

Thank you, Darren ☮️. My challenge is recovering from over 60 years of psychological and emotional abuse from a narcissistic mother and sociopathic sister. I am not exaggerating. The truth is horrific. Thank you for your authenticity, for your compassion, and for sharing your talents. You are a gift. ☮️

It is easy for someone who is authentic to recognize it in others. They usually talk about personal experiences in healthy ways and don’t talk about others in demeaning ways. They love facts and know how to use facts appropriately in every circumstance. They don’t need others to gain their value. They don’t use others to punish or feed from. Unauthentic people are sickening to be around. Thank you for your work.

Thank you Darren for such a down to earth and easy to understand discussion on authenticity and narcissism. I try to live as best I can by this description of authenticity but I've not been able to put it into words. I have struggled through many narcissistic familial relationships and I can definitely relate to your description of how it goes with an authentic person and a narcissist. This is probably my favourite video of yours. I also found your Managing Boundaries with Narcissists videos so helpful. Any future video ideas you have about boundaries would be wonderful! Thanks again, I am watching from Canada 😊

This is probably one of my favorite episodes of yours! Both of the topics you covered where exactly what I was needing to hear. I am a survivor of 48 years of domestic violence and I am untangling all of this with a therapist again for the umpteenth time. Come to find out, my ex was a narcissistic sociopathic pedophile. There's a lot to unpack . Your videos are a wonderful supplement to this fantastic counselor who is really going deep. Thank you and keep up your excellent work!

I'm trying to be more authentic, although my family has branded me mad, bad, sad, detached from reality. At work, I sometimes find that I just hang back a little around a person who has a dominant personality and even that hesitancy alerts them to the fact that I'm still assessing, and that little, that can make a dominant person freeze *me* out. I think I initially come across like a people pleaser who then confusingly pleases herself. I need to emanate a more assertive energy. But it needs to happen gradually so it's authentic. Good chat. Waffle away on this subject. It's good to be reminded of who we're striving to be.

Vulnerabilities don't have to be weaknesses. ❤ Right. I like to be open to other people, and support them if they have a struggle, but I don't intend to be used or considered "sweet " for being that way. As one person labeled me. I didn't consider being called "sweet" a compliment.

Hey My name is Kirsty; I am authentic. Authenticity, is actually no effort; I just say what I want, whatever I’m feeling. The reason I say it’s easier, is because it’s less effort to be honest, about what’s going on, internally. This is within the confines, of what is appropriate to share. Yes, it’s a lifelong journey, of discovering who I am. It’s also, a lifelong journey, of discovering what I want, and who I want to be. It’s the knowledge that, anyone, I want to be, I can be; the reason being, where the passion is, there, too, is the ability. Humility is absolutely, where the confidence, of an authentic person comes from. Also, the confidence of being good at something, because, I have that passion. Really enjoyed the video. Thank you

I used to get triggered when being accused of being intolerant, mean, extreme, a liar etc. The narc of course uses words as weapons It was next level of self-acceptance when I can say yes- I CAN be intolerant/ mean/ extreme/ lie…but I’m also tolerant/ kind/ balanced and honest… It like I’ve finally accepted all of myself- the shadow and the light. It’s a pretty powerful state of mind. I know I am capable of going into both ends of the spectrum of emotions and experience, and I will always aim for the higher ground The words and accusations don’t hurt anymore, It becomes then about WHY they are saying those things, without getting pulled into the illusionary battle

Just Yesterday for example I said " I am busy with authentic buyers." When selling . Found this, learned , helped! "When the two collide," is so helpful in terms of thinking how to settle a lawsuit, etc, or even understanding stupidity we all struggle with when dealing with others egos / our own etc , I am thankful. I am learning . This could serve as a guide in getting back to peace., Merry Christmas to you and all your many good sound followers! ✌👌 ❤ 💕 😉 👍 Thank you!

What really put my drive into overdrive trying to be authentic was being really hurt by someone, don’t get me wrong I’ve been hurt many times but this latest one really woke me up! I really thought I knew people but I soon realised I did not! This made me look more inward and to ask who I’m I why was I fooled again, so from that day I went deeper and deeper, looking at what and who is me! So hence how do I achieve this becoming more authentic.

Part of authenticity is being good with being imperfect. (Many years ago, I read about the growth vs. fixed mindset - book by Carol Dweck, but I don't think I really got it until very recently.) Acceptance, too, as you mentioned. I struggled with understanding any of this for many years - maybe because I was trying to see things both from my narcissistic mother's perspective as well as my own?? Thanks for noticing my name during the live stream, Darren! 😁 Great information, as usual.

Very good video. I have one possible idea for something I'd love to know more about. It's about if you think there's anything to the idea that the self aware BPD person develops a sort of 6th sense for sniffing out NPD people? I haven't seen much about this topic but because borderlines and narcissists attract each other, the borderline who heals from those toxic relationships , goes into treatment and improves their symptoms can become triggered by a narcissist and be a very strong ally for those who are being abused because they are one of the few personality types who can match their energy. They also understand willfulness, being controlling , manipulative and toxic because it's the things they dont like about themselves.

I don't think I have BPD, but certainly have had some of the traits, have healed some but not fully, and what you wrote is about where I am at right now.
