I have to say this… I absolutely love the decision you have made to start a Podcast with your husband. The conversations are relatable and as a woman who grew up in church it’s so refreshing to hear the real versus the sugar coated. For the both of you to be honest about your past lives and the struggles you still experience is what needs to be heard. I subscribed to you because you’re not afraid to say you love God and I’m sticking around for the realness.

@OnlyOneJess but let's be honest... I was raised pentecostal I mean back in the day, old time pentecostal. So yes wr sat people down who sin. The simply told us don't havr sex....but we had far less sexual offenses back then, than we do now. I literally had a 12yr old with chlamydia. Gonorrhea, and herpes in my ER last night 😩 this baby is 12 and she said she don't even know who gave her what. So I'd much rather have it the way it was when we came up than these kids today. I'm very cautious about my 3 and 1yr old

Jess, the way Jonathan openly encourages you to speak and live in your truth, without shame or judgment… I can only imagine his covering behind closed doors. 🙏🏽 I’m not sure if it’s part of the “black/caribbean church culture” but I’m sure many of us share the same stories. The common denominator is often the hyper focus on shaming/denouncing someone who has sinned. I know it’s pushed a lot of people away from the physical building of church (I’m sure it also happens in other cultures as well). I think one of the most important things we can learn, practice and share is the importance of cultivating a personal relationship with God. When all else is stripped away, God is still in the midst.

I am a 44 year old woman who grew up with old school belizean parents. They never spoke about sex. I am the youngest of 7. They let my siblings "educate " me on sex. I had to figure it out on my own basically because they didn't know much either. I changed the narrative with my children by having open conversations with my them. Thanks Jess and Jonathan for this podcasts and creating this safe space for us❤

so glad i got to this video early. i’m a pk too and the sweltering shame that’s built into caribbean based christian churches is very detrimental to young minds that are bound to explore. i’m a young adult now and i live my life without shame, and i am less connected to my father’s church and more connected to God for myself. once i went away to college i literally felt God keeping me. seeing how other kids lose all their discipline when they’re free was scary. finding God for myself was the self awakening i needed to realize some of the hypocrisy i’ve faced within church growing up. my parents weren’t as strict as the people in his congregation tried to be, but once your pastor’s kid everyone thinks you’re their kid too because of that spotlight. so glad i could relate my experiences to you guys tho, keep the podcasts coming ❤

First of all, I LOVE you two doing this together it is so refreshing and relatable. I feel like this is going to be something so big. You both are very insightful and honest & so many people (young and older) will be enlightened in many different ways. Go Jess, great move! I agree with Jonathan...you can be open, but not accepting of everything. Thats the difference between a friend and a parent...a parent will let you in on information based on age/time of course, but will also let you know what they expect of you. Boundaries still have to be set even when being open. You also have to remember not to be overly open anout everything.

Great conversation! When we started school, every year at the beginning of school from K-College, my mom sat us down and talked to us. She would say, never let anyone touch you (she would point in the area), never take medicine from people! Things like that, then as we got older the talks got more deep! Cause here’s the thing, if not parents, then who? 🖤🖤🖤🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I'm not a PK but as someone who got baptized at a young age ... when I really think about it shame is the main reason I fell off my walk... I felt so dirty and broken to the point where I believed God could never love someone like me ... because of an experience like that I think if the churches have a safe space for young people there's so much we don't have go through or experience just to understand the why.

Generational legacies and generational curses are synonymous. The pressure of living up to adult standards as a kid can cripple you (legacy). The pressure to do better when you don't see better cripple you (gen curses). Both are Anxiety Triggers.

This is so refreshing to hear. I’m not a PK lol but we were very involved. Church Sundays, Tuesdays, choir practice Wednesdays, bible study Thursday. Like I’m a kid, I wanna have fun, Sunday enough for me😭 I’m a believer, but I haven’t consistently been to a church since I got out of high school & I’m in my mid 20’s. It’s hard for me since it was pushed on me as a child & I never understood the reasoning of why we had to go so many days out the week. I really wanna get back into it & find a church home, but I’m struggling especially now since I’m in nursing school & my nose stay in those books, but I also want to learn how to understand the Bible & be more in touch with God.

Hey Jess!!!! YOU SOUND LIKE ME!!!! Lol. My dad is a Pastor as well and you know what I have learned since I've gotten older? When the enemy can't can't get to the parents, they come after the children. So, it wasn't just you. It was an attack of the enemy on your parents. When you r parents raise you to know the Word and the give you to God, they know you'll find your way back! I have the same testimony! My sister and I tell my dad some of the stuff we were doing (we're 36 and 37 now) and he just be looking at us crazy! When he preaches, we always end up in his messages. He told God that he would serve him, he just wanted God to take care of us (me and my sister). That's it!!! Love you guys talks! Much love and blessings to you guys!
