I guess it really makes sense that superhero’s would want to be more comedic, i mean most superhero comics are kinda silly and outlandish so that probably why comic book movies don’t take them so seriously

As someone who's a massive fan of Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm offended that you could think no one knew of them before the movie. Next you're gonna say no one knows who the Delta Force are

You're right, I probably should've mentioned that. I actually love the Deadpool movie, 2's pretty good too. But I think Deadpool should be the outlier to poke fun at the superhero genre. When every superhero movie is doing the wink and nod to the camera saying "yeah we know this is kinda silly" it lessens the impact across the board.

I don’t necessarily think comedy in itself is bad, but it is the lack of sincerity. Stuff like Teen Titans Go has no love for the source material or anything, while Brave and the Bold (and it’s successor Justice League Action) does. Most superhero comedies these days are overly cynical. Also, I think this problem is prevalent in superhero cartoons. Most shows these days are either straight up comedies or undercut themselves with comedy. I think Young Justice Outsiders is the only superhero cartoon left standing that is actually fairly serious, followed by....Big Hero 6 I guess.

It's interesting you mention Batman: The Brave And The Bold is co-created by Michael Jelenic, who would eventually go on to co-create Thundercats 2011 and Teen Titans Go. However, I'd say the more comedic influences of Teen Titans Go stem from the other co-creator Aaron Horvath, who previously worked on the 2010 sketch comedy cartoon MAD. As for Justice League Action, the show is created by Alan Burnett (Batman The Animated Series, Krypto The Super Dog), Jim Krieg (Batman The Brave And The Bold, Green Lantern The Animated Series), and Butch Lukic (Superman The Animated Series, Justice League). As for action shows, I'd say the route to go towards action-comedy hybrids (especially with superheroes) is to market it more towards kids of today. Tastes do change. Young Justice is fairly serious, but it's not a kids show anymore. The Big Hero 6 series does have some heavily comedic elements, mostly because much of the writing staff worked on another action comedy, Penn Zero Part Time Hero, while the comedic elements borrow a lot from the creators' previous shows like Kim Possible and Penguins Of Madagascar.

I see that you have a huge passion for the super hero genre. But, I also think you are miss interpreting some of the things the industry are doing as well. Such as saying that the Joker movie is a comic movie shying away from comic source material is somewhat miss leading as there is no clear source in which it inspired the Joker's story, there are comics that try to interpret it, but it is missed in mystery. And trying to make a movie of a character's be either more dark or light should just depend on the character, you got this for Batman, but for most Marvel character they are typically light. Obviously, they do have their dark aspects, such as a popular example of Tony and his playboy aspect, and then you have Daredevil with his codes that he lives by. It just seems that it is hard for these movie directors to write a movie and be confident that it will get a profit at the end. This can be argued tho.

Yeah, I agree that "dark and gritty" is not the direction most superhero properties should go in, but I think it's possible to do a more lighthearted take without going into full-on comedy.
