Unfortunately the story of Melo is what Chauncey once said. He’s okay with hitting 40 pts on a loss but unhappy with 20 pts on a win 🙈

Melo would have been the best fit for what that team needed. Plus 3 respected vets on that team definitely embrace and mentor a rookie of that caliber and command respect form them. Melo was 25 and went to the WCF with Chauncey alone.

There's a big difference between watching whole games and looking at stats. I watched a ton of Carmelo's Knicks games and it was clear he was playing for a paycheck. His career wasn't frustrating. He got exactly what he wanted. He would ball-hog 20 points in the first half then disappear the second. What a waste. I also laugh when I hear about Harden and talk about MVPs.

Carmelo is high on the list of all-time "extremely talented, but should have had a better career" players along with guys like Shawn Kemp, Vince Carter, and Dwight Howard. He's a ten time all-star and lock for HoF, but still, he's made one conference finals his entire career and never made an all-nba first team. For a guy who was one of the greatest college players ever and was supposed to be Lebron's great rival coming into the league, that has to be considered disappointing.

Melo is pretty much Adrian Dantley. Defensive liability, great scorer, 95% chance he’s gonna shoot instead of pass, a predominately iso scorer, and usually getting bounced in the first or second round, or not making the playoffs at all.

Great vid, but your agreeing with comments about melo ruining Lin’s career are off base. Truth concerning Lin is he was never a tier one player to begin with. Lin had starting opportunities with Houston, Los Angeles, Charlotte and Brooklyn and failed at each stop. Any player can have a good run, the truth about Lin was told once the league knew him as a player. Second or third guard off the bench at best. You’re 💯 on point concerning Melo’s decision making.....again, great vid!

Interesting video. I agree that the Pistons should’ve drafted better but there’s no way Melo would’ve been the best player on the Pistons team as a rookie. You’re severely devaluing the talent on that back to back Champion Pistons team. Besides that, you could’ve reasonably expected Melo to take away from the good chemistry on that team, rather than contribute to it. Keep in mind Melo pretty much shot his way out of Denver when nobody really wanted him as bad as he wanted to get out of there. LeBron and others were quoted that they did not want him as a teammate but wished him well. With that said, I don’t think it was Melo’s mistake to extend his Knicks contract. That was one of many poor front office decisions the Knicks made over the past 40 years. And they pretty much threw money at him. No one else would’ve given him that much. Melo has lots of friends in the NBA but none of them want him as a teammate. He can’t shoot at a high percentage, he can’t rebound above average for his size or position and he really can’t defend. He’s a liability. And he’s 35 years old. He’s had a full, accomplished career. And that’s really all there is to it.
@kaioken301

Melo's problem was he never truly cared about winning. It just happened to be the end result often times on the lower levels(High school & college). As long as he led the team in scoring, got as much attention as possible(Thus the desire for New York), and made the most money he was fine with whatever season he had. Now he's humbled himself far too late. He's in Portland putting up empty numbers for one of the most confusingly inconsistent teams in the NBA with two other shot chucking traffic cones that don't seem to know what a pass is in Dame Lillard and CJ McCollum.

Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side. He had a GREAT THING going in Denver. Made the conference Finals and all that. But the move to NY just wasn't meant to be as great. The thought of him and Amare had MAJOR potential! But Amare had the injury bug and fell out of his prime. From there, u have to build a certain team around Melo. When Melo had his best success, he had great floor generals running the show (Billups in Denver, Kidd in NY) and plenty of defenders and rebounders around to do the dirty work. So on those teams, all Melo had to do GREAT was score the rock. Melo was who he was. He was a great player in his prime. One of the top 3 scoring skillsets ever at the SF position. Was a great scoring and rebounding SF. But THE GUYS like Bron, MJ, Bird, Magic, KD, Kobe, Wade, etc. had THE BLEND of great scoring AND great all around ability as a package. Those are the easiest guys to build a team around. That's a FACT! But everybody ISN'T meant to have that package. Or be a great two way player like a Kawhi. So instead of bashing Melo, I prefer to look at him as an all time great scorer. IF YOU KNOW the game of basketball, u know the importance of having devastating scoring machines like a Melo! BUT he's not the level of player of a Bron, Bird, or KD at the SF DUE the huge gap in all around ability!
@bizil100
@bizil100 5 жыл бұрын
@Young Melo DO YOU KNOW HOW TO COMPREHEND SHIT!!! I gave Melo HIS PROPS!!!! All I said was his ALL AROUND GAME wasn't on the level of a Bron, Bird, or KD at the SF position! Those guys could impact a game in MORE WAYS than Melo could. Scoring wise, Melo was ON THEIR LEVEL! But Melo WASN'T DROPPING triple dubs like Bron or Bird! And KD and 7'0 tall is a better passer and defender than Melo EVER WAS! Melo was in a GREAT SITUATION in Denver! But he chose to bounce to NY and he got traded there! Bottom line is Melo ENJOYED way more TEAM SUCCESS in Denver than in NY! THOSE ARE FACTS!

Sadly, with the rise of the do-it-all forwards starting from LeBron, Melo is not a top 3 scorer at his position anymore. Bird LeBron KD can score just as well with higher efficiency. Giannis and Kawhi (if they continue their rise) will eventually pass Melo as well imo.

Why the Pistons didn't pick Melo, Bosh or Wade is sheer madness. Melo must of gave them the impression that he wouldn't of been happy there, maybe he made it clear that he wanted to be the first option straight out of gates which wouldn't of happened since Detroit were competing for a ring and had a solid lineup. I can't see Detroit passing up on someone of Melo's skill set and proven track record.

The popular narrative is Carmelo stripped the Knicks of players with the forced trade. Nothing about that is 100% wrong but.....the Knicks also did nothing for Carmelo’s career. I’m sorry, maybe YOU were too young to watch the 09 playoffs. The Magic almost stole home court but Courtney Lee missed a game winning LAYUP. Also, a game in Orlando was only won by the Lakers cuz the Magic didn’t foul and let Fisher hit a 3 with seconds left to force ot (which the Lakers won). Much more of a contest than the 4-1 outcome, seems like you didn’t even watch. This is coming from a Lakers guy too. 1 LAYUP and 1 bad coaching decision was the difference between a 5 and 7 game series. Wouldn’t even take much research to figure that out.

I get that Carmelo Anthony was good, not just good he was great, I still distinctly remember resenting that he was and being mentioned in the same sentence with Lebron, Kobe, and Wade often back in the late 2000s. He was great, but not on their level in my opinion at the time.

@@spencerantoniomarlen-starr3069 Yes, and I love him as a player, but too bad he didnt evolove other parts of his game. I have a friend who is a similar type of guy, and the problem with these type of players is they are just too good of a scorers, and when he can score however he wants on somebody and have that confidence since he made million times those types of shots on somebody, he gonna pull up. I believe if Lebron, or most of other players was that good of a scorer they probably would play the same as melo most of his career. Melo is 1 on 1 killer, and killer scorer. So his mindset is one that I described above. Hes thinking like, why should i pass the ball to this bozo who is half of the scorer of me and no one can stop me xD . Too bad he didnt end up on detroit pistons. But I would still love to see him winning a chip. Plus he is not efficient scorer, thats his biggest mistake he didnt work on, he remained volume shooter with bad percentages and every coach would rather have efficient 3pt shooter then inefficient scorer. Inefficient scorrer play hot vs cold and when hes hot he delivers 35 pts, when cold 5 pts. Efficient 3pt shooter you know he brings 17 pts a game every game ( im making those numbers up)... and i love his pull up jumper .. too bad today is a different game, but i think he would murder everyone in the league 1 on 1.

jump shooting is a part of the game, he is a scoring machine and that has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with IQ, guts or leadership qualities. Harden and Westbrook are gorgeous regular season players and I would take Tony Parker, Chaucey Billups in the playoffs all day, everyday. Harden and Westbrooke implode when it counts. You can BANK on a stupid as fuck shot or turnover coming from Harden or Westbrook when the game is on the line in the playoffs. Regular season they will hit it, playoffs they will kick it out of bounds.

I have Anthony as the most over rated NBA player of the past 50 years. Taking the NBA 75th Anniversary team as a starting point, there are a handful of players that are part of The Triple Zero Club. This being, Zero Chamionships, Zero Finals appearances and Zero MVP awards. They are: Dave Bing, Pete Maravich, George Gervin, Dominique Wilkins, Damian Lillard and Anthony. Of this group, Anthony us 2nd lowest in production (ppg+rpg+apg+spg+bpg-topg), has the lowest support in MVP voting and had the least amount of support in All NBA selections. Johnny ponders the "what if" with Anthony going to Detroit. Had that occurred (I wanted the Pistons to draft Wade), Anthony absolutely makes a Finals appearance and perhaps also a ring. However, the "what if" can also be applied to the others of this group. Wilkins is the easiest. Had Nique been selected by Showtime over Worthy, then Nique has at least 4 rings, is put on the NBA 50 at 50 list and Worthy is the forgotten man. Maravich played all but his last season on some of the worst teams the NBA has ever seen in the worst Era of the leagues history. Players were not paid anywhere close to what players receive today, (even contextually) and salary wasn't really a focus of Maravich. Pistols career was short (as was his life, sadly) , but had he played with the 3pt shot his entire life, Pistol is easily one of the games greatest 3pt shooters and his career ppg likely approaches 28 or even 30. (Playing on poor teams gives elite players disproportionate amount of FGA) Ice finished as high as 2nd in MVP voting twice and dispute his off court issues and his indifferent, at best, defense, he was a Supreme offensive player that every opposing team had to game plan to stop. Bing while for some odd reason, received a bit higher accolades than Anthony (Bing was 1st team All NBA once?), wasn't very productive and there is little evidence he was lifting his teammates to any higher plane. Anthony is almost a perfect copy of Alex English. Nothing against either player as English was also a superb scorer, but neither player was much on defense, facilitation or rebounding. English isn't on the 75th Anni team and neither should Anthony or Bing. Better choices may be...Alonzo Mourning, Bobby Jones, Adrian Dantley.

Melo was/is a bum. Selfish. Money over everything else. Not about team. He is a black hole, pass em the ball and it disappears. Terrible defensive player. So many call him a great player yet he never made it to the finals and only been to the conference finals once. He had multiple years exiting the playoffs in the 1st round. He chose to stay in NY for the money vs having a chance to win in Chicago. Pistons would not have won that title if he was on the team. That Pistons team was about teamwork and unselfishness, 2 things Melo isn't about. He would have been the cancer that killed that Detroit team.

The Blazers have been a bad team all season though. Won't even make the playoffs. Their problems before signing Melo were ball movement and defense, but they're so poorly run as a team they thought they needed more scoring. Yeah Melo's starting, but what has it helped if they've still been on the outside looking in all season? Not to mention they STILL have the same problems they had before they signed him.

Carmelo was a black hole on offense and a liability on defense. He was overrated his entire career. The Pistons won the championship with defense. Anthony could have came off the bench to give them a bit of offense but he would have been a bit player at best as a rookie. A lot of youngster don't know the story of Jordan's development. Jordan was criticized heavily by players and fans for being a black hole on offense. If he was shooting the lights out, the team could compete. If he was just good, the team lost bad. Jordan learned to make his teammates better by playing his game within a team offense and by getting his teammates going. Anthony never learned how to do that.
