My question is when do I use solder paste or tacky flux? Which one should I use for my particular case (not having to remove anything) and some soldering tips and tools if I’m not asking for too much. Thank you!

That boring history teacher reminds me of the small history book I loved browsing as a kid. It was typically 1 or 2 paragraphs for each year since pre-history, with a few "meanwhile, elsewhere" lines on each page. Really barebones, but it was fun noticing relationships like "hey, wasn't that the guy who ... 7 years earlier". Of cause there were other books and teachers, but this little book was great as a cross reference, a bit like those MacBook diagrams. (Admitted, it was actually 3 volumes, each the size of a detective story, but smaller print).

@JungleLibrary
@JungleLibrary Жыл бұрын
He answered that in the video: hot enough to melt s[tuff]. If it doesn't, turn it up. He can't tell you what temps you'll need for your particular application, and rework stations are not accurate anyway, so even if he gives you a temp, his station is not accurate, and yours isn't either, so that compounds the error to the point that it wouldn't be useful to you.

One suggestion about interviews, having done a few. Have a casual conversation of about 15-20 minutes before the interview and kinda do a rehearsal of some of the things you're going to talk about. Not too much as you don't want it to sound scripted, but it's a trick you can play on your brain to force it to think of "oh I wish I'd asked this or said that" because you have a 2nd chance at everything.

So, BGA (even some QFNs for that matter) seems to be either a hit or miss kind of scenario when it comes to soldering huh? It either works or it doesn't.
@KrotowX
@KrotowX Жыл бұрын
QFNs are different beast. They doesn't have many balls at underside. However they almost always have large cooling pad and thick layer of PCB copper at that area which is designed to act as heat sink. Without preheating getting such QFN chip off the board is a gory fun. Two times didn't found anothar way except destroying the faulty chip from top side to get enough contact area for soldering iron tip. Hot air didn't worked, most likely original solder had very high melting point.
@shashankks1962
@shashankks1962 Жыл бұрын
@@KrotowX well that's true. But you can remove a QFN with a large gnd pad with hot air without any damage. Just need practice and experience. Wow, nice to see that I've leveled up since a year.
@KrotowX
@KrotowX Жыл бұрын
@@shashankks1962 Agree about practice and experience. Hadn't much time or hot air soldering in last two years though. Then realized than forgot about how to set correct airflow to get area hot enough and not blow away things :) In end simply filed off QFN chip tops and soldered them off with regular soldering iron. In end turned out that factory solder indeed had high melting point. I soldered replacement chips with SN63Pb37 and had no problem to unsolder one of those chips with hot air later when board cooled off.

He gave a straight answer, but you bent too hard to hear: he turned up the heat as high as needed to melt what he needed to melt it, without measuring it otherwise, while also mentioning that any indicated temperature isn't likely to be the real temperature, so... the only criteria he's using is: does it melt what he wants to melt?
@wingerrrrrrrrr
@wingerrrrrrrrr 2 жыл бұрын
A thermocouple would make that measurement pretty easily. Then someone else could conceivably get a thermometer with a thermocouple probe and then compare the setting, and that ideally should not vary as much between different meters as the temp settings on the hot air stations. They're actually commonly available with some DMMs nowadays.

@@BulletFever1 He's a neo conservative - a neocon. Therefore a fake conservative. Would he debate a folk like Vox Day? No. Because he would get destroyed by FACTS AND LOGIC but for real this time.

@ChochaCholaCherry That just means you aren't willing to actually *listen* and have already decided your opinion. Minds work better when open and can discuss ideas.

NeoTaoist TechnoPagan I think it’s funny how you try to lambast me for having a pre-fabricated opinion while you assume something about me yourself, in other words you have a pre-fabricated opinion about me. So just stop right there.

@@chochacholacherry789 Tbf it's not that hard to infer what you're trying to say with a statement like "Don't listen or learn from Ben!" so the guy's "pre-fabricated opinion" isn't without merit because you clearly show your dislike to him. Also, the guy has a point. You're actually closing your mind if you don't listen thus, already have made your opinion about him. There's a big distinction between close mindedness and disagreement. If you had done the latter then the guy's comment about you would have been invalid. So basically yeah. Louis is right. It's an empty post.
