I’m going to be honest I love the look of the Crown Victoria and I will become a part of the community one day but with all the snow I get up here the Taurus is looking real friendly. Nonetheless I like both the Taurus and the Crown Vic. But overall I respect all the police cars on the road whether it’s lying in the shadows staring out into the street or a Taurus speeding down the highway with its lights on. Panther cars are rather common up here but the Crown Vics are rather rare to see and when I do see one I watch as it drives away. Panther cars for life!!

#1... My P-71. It handles better than the Jaguar XKE V12 that I got to drive 33 years ago. My first squad was an '85 Diplomat, which wasn't bad, either. My brother had a retired Charger, but that car had more computer than engine. Considering that the Charger had more engine than most squads, that's a LOT of computer to go bad, built into a car. When I was little, my mother had a retired '64 Plymouth. About 10 years ago, I asked her if she remembered what engine it had. She didn't remember, so I asked her where the spark plugs were. Her answer... "Right through the center of the valve covers." That car would be worth a fortune now, with that engine. As my CV is rusting away, I'd love to swap the suspension from it into my Grand Marquis. Speaking of which, the local PD did also have an unmarked Grand Marquis. I don't know if it was beefed up like the P-71, or if it was all luxury.

I agree. I just bought a 2019 FPIU explorer. Has a rear cargo barrier to keep my trained protection k9 away from my infant daughter in the back seat and the vinyl floor matting helps for clean up. I mean 70k mile SUV for 18k that’s only 3 years old is unheard of, plus is handles and drives amazing, and I owned a 500 hp 2014 mustang prior to this so that says something

Just bought a 2013 ford explorer interceptor 3 days ago, I love power and if I need, it has just that. Today though I and a cop locked eyes, he and I slowed down (as I was leaving the store he was entering) gave me the most dirtiest look I could receive. On the other hand, I'm not getting cut off, people give way and more caution is being used on the road. Today I've learned about reinforced chassis and tracking of police driver movements(thanks to this video), I'm not wanting extra lights or anything but it's nice to know that I was in the right by buying this vehicle. I paid $9,500 for it.

I love the Crown Vic's because they were the last body on frame, V8, RWD powered car you could get. They are durable as hell too. I can do without the push bars and spotlights, and light bars. Tint the windows, and do performance mods to it (most of the Modular 4.6L Mustang stuff will work) like a supercharger, higher stall converter, rear gears, and you have a 4 door muscle car that people will get out of the way for. It's also big, comfy, and roomy. They are great road trip cars. Huge trunk for luggage or stereo equipment.

I knew I was going to have to have a P71 Vic after I built a Zombie Outbreak Response Team unit out of an 89 suburban! I had to have a K 9 unit and after getting all the parts like , push bar , window bars console and green and white lights, I plastered it with Zombie Outbreak Response Team decals and K-9 unit decals as well! Luckily I live in and area of Michigan where most people are into that kind of customizing!

I got my 06 still equipped with all Lights and siren still installed. Complete K9 cage as well. The lights are deck, visor, and mirror as well as wig wags in front and back. I gave the radio to my local pd when I was showing them my car. My idea is to keep it as complete as possible so I’m not adding anything more than it came with except maybe a CB so I can use the PA again which is mounted to the push bar. I’m no whacker, I couldn’t be, nor would I want to be, a police officer. They have the toughest job especially in today’s world. Still have and love my 09 as well but it’s not got anything more than a spot light on it. Nor will it ever. Love these cars.

The out come will depend on the officer. My conversations with law enforcement about retired patrol cars has been interesting. Some do not mind because they help keep traffic at bay. Some target retired patrol cars due to them believing the driver is trying to use the vehicle for illegally transporting stuff. Could go either way

@@gottagrind2shine607 that’s exactly why I showed my local department. I do property management so they all know me. I also gave them some some other goodies from the trunk. There are 2 dealers that only sell former cop cars within a 30 mile area where I live and they are always selling their vehicles. A few of their customers are retired cops. But a lot of their customers want a good reliable vehicle that they aren't paying an arm and a leg for. Most of the vehicles that I'm told have documentation on them re: their history of service. I don't own one but I can understand the interest in them.

@@p71guy72 Apparently that's the case. However I worked for two huge Police Departments in one of the wealthiest states in the country. A huge Fire Department in the same state and I was the regional fleet manager for the Department of Corrections. Believe me outside of vehicles for VIP'S government fleet vehicles don't get the 5 star treatment. Agencies that have in house shops don't pay their techs close to what they make in the private sector so they don't get the best of the best. Agencies that contract work out typically go with the vendors that underbid everyone else. Professionals in the automotive repair industry know that government vehicles aren't loved and they do the bare minimum to get them in and out. If you get a government vehicle that isn't a take home car assigned to one person or a lightly used vehicle such as some type of specialty truck you're pretty lucky. I can almost assure you that any vehicles used in emergency responses or commercial hauling or transporting passengers has been abused.

Well.. as for cops abusing their patrol cars, that is sort of justifiable. Depending on the department, different equipment is used for every patrol car. Most, if not all patrol cars have dash cameras but that's not to say that the obd II monitoring system is. And yes, with some departments the vehicle's daily usage is recorded and filed. But that may be completely different for the sheriff's office down the road.. don't quote me on it but majority of cops don't abuse their vehicles. I would think that the speed shown on the gps installed in their units is enough of a deterrent to not jack up the police vehicles but I could be wrong. Also, I should mention that they may not be abused, but all cop cars that make traffic stops sit and idle for many hours in the day, reducing the engine life dramatically. That's why the mds system in the 5.7 Hemi police chargers fail, because they idle for a long period of time. Same with the cylinder deactivation in chevy Tahoes, Impalas, and Caprice vehicles.
@doranmaxwell1755
@doranmaxwell1755 Ай бұрын
They are abused tho. They idle for more time than they are on the road... also? Do you let that ditch get in the way of catching that serial killer... noooo you do not. You jump the ditch if you tear up the entire suspension? who cares. the mechanics will replace it all. My 2014 sold for $36k I have every service record they spent at least that amount on replacing parts on on a monthly or even weekly basis... oh my Charger has 14.5 inch rotors and Hellcats duidnt... As the song goes "Now daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge "Johnson County Sheriff" painted on the side Just shot a coat of primer, then he looked inside Well, him and my uncle tore that engine down I still remember that rumblin' sound

I absolutely love it but iv almost been put in situations where iv had to protect my property..sometimes with my girls in the vehicle. 2011 chevy tahoe ppv.🤷‍♂️

Think I have owned like 4? over the decades? Life long hot rodder here,. I know heavy duty parts and what they cost. Also... raising a family we had to have one 'nice car' for the little woman and rug rats while I was off making money. First was a 58 chevy with 348 tri power... this was not a good car. I learned that city driven only cars kinda sucke. next was a 82 Impala. In the HP drought of those years this thing was actually fast! 220 Hp About ike a crown vic.This was my work car but the little woman loved it.. so much that she got 3 tickets for speeding in one month I ran this thing for about 5 years spending pretty much nothing on it. It always felt taut and capable. So like all good/bad/questionable things my marriage ended. This meant the 5.0 mustang convert went to with ... you know... Anything that was not seriously worthless. My 65 El CAMINO was no bueno pretty much. a Ford dealer ran an add in the sunday paper claiming to have a dozen or so Mustang policed pursuit cars. I did still own a credit card so off I went. Daughter in tow. They were all 5.0 5speeds with just under 100k on em. They were all 'coupes' rare. They had roll up windows! The Mustang that left me was a 5.0 5 speed. It had 2.08 or some such rear end. It would go faster in 4th than fifth. The cop one had .373 gears and it was not really done at 140 mph This was one cop car where everything was different and better. Had 180k+ on it when I sold it. Next was a Crown Vic. kinda boring but Handled good and could keep up with traffic. Drove it for 5 years or so.. 8? till I got something else and just gave the car to my brother.. he still drives it. Soooo now. A 2014 Charger R/T I love this car. 100k when I bought it. About as utilitarian as the get these days. Fun and comfortable car. One thing I have known for half a century. Cop car.... tires... are... cheap... They are not the right sizes for civilian versions. Any tiny defect meant the cops just tossed em, What you are getting is a V/r speed rated tire for like 180 MPH for 90-100 bucks with no appreciable wear. I just paid over $160 for a KIA (you heard me right) tire for my girl friends car. it is probly speed rated at 60 mph Anyway.. Like my LS converted C10 Chevy truck? everyone I know including my grand daughter has an excuse for why they want to drive these throwbacks. Or 'need' to borrow' According to my Dakota digital gauges I just turned a 5.1 0-60 time in the truck. Think I could do better. but I seen scat packs (will not hook up) that at their very best with stock tires will not beat a 5.2 But as they say......our mileage may vary.

How would telemetric disprove that cops abuse their cars though? It’s simply a data capture device. The department would have to care about the data, which they don’t. I assure you, no cop is getting yelled at for his MPG last shift or his heavy braking. I’ve never once heard of a department looking at an officers acceleration and braking habits. Even if they did, cops would still need to naturally accelerate and brake harder and more often than the average driver. So the point is moot. I don’t think people are saying “used and abused” in a nefarious way when describing cop cars so there’s no reason to get defensive and pretend they’re not abused. It’s just a fact that police duty is tough on vehicles. They’re constantly under wide open throttle, heavy braking, idling for thousands of hours, they hop curbs, slam into suspects during pursuits, etc. That’s all just part of police work. So to call it a “myth” is a little dumbfounding.

I'm not coming against the guys wanting a legit ride, they're great cars. Some... epic. To set the record straight tho: it's true no one pulls over or gives the right of way to a Delorean (no they definitely do that to cars with cred), but absolutely no one respects an "out of service for so long it probably pulled over my granny" crown vic with a push bar and a decal that's just close enough to "replicate," trying to boss traffic or own the interstate. If you get a Delorean... You'll get less crap on the road and people will actually like you.
