if you're wondering why Sadako's room seems so sparse, it's actually not all that uncommon in japan, espeically in large metropolitan areas like tokyo. space is at a premium, so apartments are usually tiny. and western-style beds are rare because of moving costs and space. so more often they'll have Futons; a type of bed that can be folded up with the pillow and blanket and stored in a closet when not in use. watch enough anime/read enough manga and they'll start to show up often enough. And space is definitely at a premium, that room looked like it might be something like 8 tatami in size; ie, it's floor is composed of 8 tatami mats(tatami are generally a very consistent size, so you can measure floorspace in them.

Just watched the film. Even after having been spoiled on its plot by this video, it was still really engaging. It being a tragic journey towards an inevitable fate that we nevertheless pray for the protagonist to escape? Reminds me a lot of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, one of my favorite films. Honestly, Carrie is bascially like that too if you watch it now, since everyone's absorbed the ending through cultural osmosis at this point. The prom scene is so joyous and cathartic you wish it could just end there, but you know it can't.

By the end of the review, I found it hard to think about the "split Sadako" plot point without noticing connections to Bruce Banner. Both Bruce and Sadako had tragic childhoods involving the death of their mother affecting their minds in such a way that it creates a darker second personality. Both go through extensive efforts to keep it under control and still make a good life for themselves. Both go through additional hardship as adults that brings their darker side to the forefront. Both are harassed by people who see them as monsters to manipulate and/or destroy. Even the kill spree at the end makes me think of an animated show scene where someone asks Hulk how he controls his anger. While I don't remember the exact words, his response can be summed up as follows. "I don't. I aim it". Maybe Sadako dying made her so angry that she found herself unable to prevent her darker side from lashing out and instead tried to guide it to prioritize the mob who attacked her in the hopes that anyone not involved would escape without getting caught up in the rampage.

It really feels like that part about drowning in the ocean is a reference to a story I heard a couple years back. From what I see, it may be called Shudan Borei. It was an incident in the 50's where over 30 students drowned. I believe it's a true event as well.

Linkara is really giving the Ring the justice it deserves

Until I heard Yahtzee once say something like "You are not officially a franchise until you've had a zero-ith instalment." I never noticed nearly everything has a "Zero" version.

The Sadako Split reminded me of Alessa & Cheryl from Silent Hill so it never really bothered me. Also, while I think I've stated this before, I believe the Towel Headed Man (at least in the other entries) is meant to be the last bit of good Sadako using her image Toyama (or the spirit of Toyama himself) warning people of their last chance to avoid the curse. It then appearing to Reiko as Ryūji in the first film/story was, yes a way to spread the curse, was allowed to show her how she was saved so she could save their son due to his love for them reminding Sadako of the one person who showed her love.

thinking about Sadako splitting into two, it could have been done a bit better imo if they went for a more mental split. Severe mental trauma's been known to cause psychological schisms, partial or complete amnesia(especially of the event) and even the development of multiple personalities. IE, have the 'evil' Sadako be split off as the trauma holder, while the 'good' Sadako has no memory of the traumatic past. Then at the end, the pain of the murder/attempted murder causes the two to merge back into one, possibly by forcing G.Sadako to recover the lost memories and the killing spree begins. Then the ending could be mostly the same with all the people who tried to murder her dead, her rage subsiding momentarily, followed by the betrayal of a doctor and her being thrown into the well. Or the killing spree could be the two Sadako working in concert, especially with the 'Evil' one egging the 'Good' one on until it's done, when E.Sadako would temporarily subside. Then the time in the Well would be what causes them to merge back into one very angry, very murdery Sadako.

The Well being Sadako’s stand has me cackling way too early in the morning. Good job, good sir

This feels less "Carry" and more "Dark Phoenix." Especially with the concerns raised about the select few with special abilities being witch-hunted and the "dark other-half not of this world" thing. Also the suppression of that dark half by her psychiatrist. And the healing factor come to think of it. ...Aaand now I want a Ringu/X-Men crossover.

What the- No Plot? Given this year is the 15th anniversary, I was kind of expecting some mini story arc to get started here that will end with another costume change.

Mitch didn't show up because there weren't enough burgers to make the save worth it. That, or he heard about the psychic prediction Sadako made and said, "No way, leave that to Ryan. I'm done with that Nights crap."

One strange thing about the film adaption of "Ring 0" is the scene at the end where Sadako goes on her rampage. All of a sudden, the film turns significantly more grainy, almost looking like an old VHS tape (though still in color). It suddenly switches back once she snaps back to her good side, but I never understood why the filmmakers decided to go that route. The cursed tape obviously doesn't exist yet, so outside of some cheap attempts at ambiance, it doesn't make any sense.

Hopefully you'll get the next Ring manga, Double Feature, and Clone Saga videos out before November so we get a month of Doctor Who

There is a huge stigma with doing anything that could leave a paper trail showing you were ever anything but perfectly sound of mind. Huh, no storyline stuff at the end, that's very different. Usually every October there's some kind of storyline, even if we get nothing for the rest of year October usually gives us something. But I have been saying for years now that it gets a little ridiculous that every year something happens to you and you're crew on Halloween and that you guys deserve a break from all this madness every year, heck even in universe some of the characters have expressed how tired they are getting of dealing with something every Halloween, so I can get behind no Halloween storyline this year, although I've always assumed that the Halloween storyline stuff is why the October episode are always behind schedule because you have film extra stuff, but there wasn't anything extra here and the episode still came out 10 days past the first Monday of October, so now I'm wondering about you're filming process. I have many questions now: like for the Moarte stuff, do you film multiple episodes in a row because of how quick they are? How early do you film the Mmoarte stuff, because you have Moarte stuff every October so I imagine knowing you'll need it you film that stuff early like in September or even August? How early do you film storyline stuff, because it's been a while since any CoC stuff and there's only the final round between you and the Bandit left, since the space flying round you're going to wait to show us until the compilation, so have you filme any of that final battle yet? I'm very curious about you're filming process.

Ringu Zero was a really sad and tragic movie, portrayed Sadako in a really sympathetic way. Sadako comes across as far more sinister in other Ringu movies, even in flash backs to when she was alive like in the Ringu tv movie she was really b*chy in that for some reason. But by the end of Ringu Zero its just so sad to see her trapped in the well..
