The difference is _Fast & the Furious_ KNOWS that it is bad. Ik im 9 months late but agreed. I’m brown skinned and never once while watching LotR did I think “I wish there were brown skinned characters.”, nor did I need a “strong, independent”female character to enjoy the films. I love Eowyn, Arwen, and Galadriel because they’re compassionate and strong-willed. Emphasis on compassionate. 💀 But they are only a fraction of the reason I love the films. There are so many women in the world who are actually oppressed; I can’t speak for all women in privileged, free countries, but I don’t want this pandering narrative that acts like I’m held down because of my gender. I’ve no problem with having or representing female characters but I don’t want it shoved in my face and if they really want a good female character don’t make them such annoyances like Galadriel in RoP, make them good role models like the women in the OG trilogy. Now we are going out of our way to make everyone happy. And we can’t..you can’t make everyone happy…what needs to happen is the viewers of movies and TV need to open up to stories and mythology other than Anglo Saxon perspective. I always liked that Peter Jackson trusted viewers to understand that “men” in LOTR was used in the archaic sense, as in mankind. As opposed to substituting it for “men and women.” It’s almost like P.J. Didn’t think his viewers were idiots that needed everything explained to death.
