To be fair it wasn't the K-pop fans and artists they critiqued, it was that one song and the looptidoop sample which is honestly frustrating from a musical perspective. On the other hand, Eddy did acknowledge that it was a way to open up these classical pieces to a broader audience. But some people who only want to hear what they want to hear did not try to understand what the context was.

@@skittles2 I agree that, that was the main purpose of the song, but there are some lines in sell out that are directed at BP as a whole, the first one that comes to mind is, “…but I think it’s kinda lame, that even after getting all your fame, all your songs they be soundin all the same.” Either way, I agree that they didn’t directly target k-pop fans but they definitely took it personally anyway.

artists dragging down others artists is so dumb. this just makes this stereotype of classic music lovers being stuck up, elitist ass-hats, even worse. Like the song black swan is literally about a DANCER losing passion for dance. which would be applicable for ballet. But no they HAD to go down this dumb elitist route of mustache twirling, "ohoho" laughing, better-than-you mockery of other forms of art.

I took a PR class, and this would be a perfect example of a PR disaster. Just one person, one slip up, and it can ruin the image of a company. Unfortunately, Royal Ballet is gonna have a hard time reaching a more vast audience now, because one person who works in the Social Media department was too lazy to do their research and think twice before posting that tweet. More damage was done to the Royal Ballet than to BTS, so that person most likely was fired, or disciplined, idk. I feel bad for the dancers now, too, because they've been working hard for that performance. Let's just hope other fine arts companies and other companies in general take note of this and learn from it to avoid it from happening again. On the contrary, BTS has been trying to promote fine arts and make it more accessible to so many people without tearing others down. They've seriously been doing such a great job at supporting all types of art and artists. I hope the best for them. Now I'm gonna go listen to their latest album. ✌️

To add further context: when this happened, BTS had *just* personally sponsored a global contemporary art exhibit across five cities during their latest comeback through a project called CONNECT BTS (check it out, it's pretty cool!). They wanted to bridge the gap between "high"/"fine" art and more modern/pop art and music with the message that a pay wall shouldn't stand in the way for all to enjoy. They teamed up with such artists as Gromley and Saraceno and made the exhibits FREE.....and yet this global art charity project had many in the contemporary art scene turning their noses and making fun of the band. So Royal Ballet was just another elitist during a time the band and fandom had already been dealing with such snobbery. They deserved the roasting they got (and honestly, the fans were pretty mature about it; no fancams, just facts).
@cooperino
@cooperino 4 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind this was just one person putting out the tweet, not the whole company. The Royal Ballet is an amazing ballet company with one idiot in their social media team, putting the whole company in bad light. I do wish tho that ballet would stop being presented as an "elite" art form and would start to be able to be enjoyed by everyone. That's what the Royal Ballet has been trying to do but that tweet was definitely a step backwards.

It's a common thing now , Companies insulting or "roasting" other companies in social media. In this case , two big media giants such as BTS and the Royal Ballet. Though I am gonna take my words gently because of the sensitivity of the subject( the ARMY) and I don't want to insult anyone. But anywaaaayssss, I just think that people should relax. I understand that , that was a bad marketing tool used by the Royal Ballet. But I highly doubt that BTS would suffer anything from it considering how big of a fanbase it has in general. I think people should just take it with a grain of salt.

We must destroy anything that is white supremacist nd well fine artist "as the cherry on top of the arts" is the finest form of bs white xenofobic antiquated elitist use to measure how educated one is when I one hundred percent dopt they actually truthfully appreciate interpretate or understand any of what the artists involved in producing nd presenting classical art form do, we don't live in a world any artist has an easy path nd the fact someone that probably don't even put actual effort into the artistical process has a say in what years of study effort vivence interpretation and emotions of an artist do is infuriating nd it's something we have to put up truthfully daily in "fine arts" our art can't be seen as too comercial cause its degrading but yet has to be as pricy as possible can't be seen as too political cause it's overly ideological yet has to make others think can't be seen as simply cause its too plain but simplicity is a given be too complicated cause is overdoing but the difficulty is part of the process... sometimes there are so many dos nd don'ts in something that aside from technic has a major interpretation emotional nd human side into it tat u start wondering as an artist if u doing any different from being a regular emotionless painting without a "relevant" known name signed cause u might be all of that being just favored because the wall u are put in has more billions in their owner account... does anyone actually see u tho? sure there are genuine blindly affectionated for the arts rich people but those also dnt realize to an extent how much the love/ actually hate It when they feel just like absolutist kings ruling it, I dnt see a reason why a ballerina should give months of her all to dance to the same futile people that don't in fact appreciate a tiny part of her process her destroyed foot nd would turn their back as soon as she choose pregnancy over a period of presentations cause now she is too old or a classical musician that literally gives their sleeping hours their blood their sanity at times to sound as perfect as they could to have someone be little them for not having the right connections... Arts has never been a pretty field nd when u have people genuinely trying to make it better why be so aggaisnt it bit it's not surprising futile rivality is something that happened a lot over times in art as if each and every new process is putting at risk the one that came before it, people constantly fighting for that tiny small stage space so they could be empowered but mostly none of us all is fully heard I'm myself telling this confession kind of here, none of us could genuinely give it up either cause just as someone good at calculating can't help but being good at it u can't never change the way u feel when u do it...

@@codmouse13 it's difficult to read your comment, but I wanted to say that BTS was dissed in the beginning because people felt they were selling out when they were first starting. A few of its members chose to debut as part of a pop group rather than stay as underground rappers. One of its members chose to debut in BTS over continuing his pursuit of professional contemporary dance. So they've had their fair share of being dissed about not being authentic. And now constantly, people all over the world have this notion that their art is manufactured, when they are the same artists as they were before joining the kpop industry. Also, there is this conflict within the contemporary arts community. Contemporary arts lovers have been dissing the contemporary artists who collaborate with BTS, saying that those artists are selling out. It's sad, but contemporary arts lovers seem to want to keep their sense of elitism, and that's no fault of the contemporary artists, but of the so-called contemporary art lovers.

Reading that tweet as a joke or not depends on the reader's perspective. It can definitely be interpreted as a joke but it can also be interpreted as ignorance. Black Swan is a song about musicians' and artists' fear of losing the passion for what they do, comparing losing the love for art as their first death. The leader of BTS cried a lot while writing this song and it's a meaningful song for them as a team. Now knowing this, reading the tweet "Forget BTS and catch Tchaikovsky's magnificent ballet..." doesn't sound like a joke anymore. For artists, isn't it disrespectful to ask people to appreciate one's art while disregarding others'?

What makes me upset is the dude that wrote the tweet and the other people (if any) that allowed the tweet to be published. The Royal Ballet has wonderful, talented dancers, but that tweet has caused the Royal Ballet to get all negative comments that have nothing to do with the actual dancers and their skill, which is upsetting. The dancers at the Royal Ballet are wonderful but the person that wrote the tweet has a negative impact which is NOT WHAT I (or anybody else, I think) WANTED?!

As a 6 years old ARMY, this is more than a diss. Jimin spent his teenage life doing modern/contemporary dance and bringing him down like this means they just basically look down at his teenage life which he trained and trained to be the top student in his whole school. not to mention Jimin is an absolute perfectionist. Now, he can dance to more than a genre of dance and that is far more than good. People should learn to appreciate, embrace and give good critics if they want to be better at what they are doing right now.

Wait, I don't think there's anything wrong with the original tweet. As Eddy said, they were trying to be humorous. I don't think it ignorance, I think they were just being coy with BTS or BTS fans, like "don't go see this obviously influential pop group, see us instead! Wink!" It's not elitism or lack of humility; I guarantee the person who wrote the tweet is probably a BTS fan. Nothing wrong with a little humorous fake "beef"

Checkmate1138 That person really has no sense of humour then... because the tonality of it is so bad... You see, to start some fake beef and gain more attention, you really need to be extremely careful, especially with (over sensitive) kpop stans. There's nth wrong with marketing, but when you do marketing the wrong way... The beef has to be very light hearted, no actual tearing other people down kind of thing. The original tweet gave off a very "they are trash we are better" vibe and it's not great for positive attention. Great example: Wendy's. They roast ppl but with widely acceptable humour.
@Checkmate1138
@Checkmate1138 4 жыл бұрын
@@flynnlui7220 Well then it sounds like it's more of a problem with the BTS fans than anyone else. I doubt BTS would even care about this tweet -- it is so off the radar and irrelevant to them that it wouldn't matter. No, instead people decided to give it attention. This is just a case scenario of why certain fandoms are not good, and why people should never be so closely identified with a group or fandom. It leads to tribalism, negativity, and ridiculous wastes of time and energy.

As an ex hardcore ballerina (a top tier academy, spent more hours training than what a full time job offers {I spent 40+ hours in the studio a week, no joke,} and had to rely on scholarships because the cost of training and pointe shoes was so expensive), The Royal Ballet was a HUGE deal. They are considered absolute top class, up there with ABT and Ballet West and The New York City Ballet and such (I know I'm missing some top tier ballet companies, but I've proven my point{e}), and the fact that they posted that post is shocking (on a professionalism stand point{e}) but also not surprising considering that their prestigious egos can get really big. (Yes, I know I'm a year or so late on the topic, I quit ballet and the community years ago. I have more broadway drama up my sleeve than ballet drama now.)

@@abrielrotzler6009 Thank you for at least caring to know that BTS is a Kpop boyband 😊 which is wrong information by the way. That's just another tactic by the media to suppress BTS. Honestly, the reason why ARMY'S are so protective of BTS is because they are constantly being looked down upon, ridiculed, framed, bashed, mistreated, sabotaged, etc. They just have lots of opposition including the MUSIC INDUSTRY itself. Anyways, there's just a misconception that BTS is a Kpop band and that they are only huge & famous because they came from a huge company that heavily promotes them. Coupled with the fact that they are somewhat good looking so they have lots & lots of screaming teenage fans all over the world. And the reason why BTS has the most no.1 songs in Billboard chart 100 is because they are heavily supported by both the Kpop & Western music Industry. Everything I just stated are not true at all.

@@rafaelsmith5737 I did not know that they are not considered kpop (at least anymore? I'm confused). Also I thought I mentioned that how the Royal Ballet handled everything was very unprofessional, which would be supporting your point? I think I'm confused on if you are just generally supporting BTS or if I said something that would put them down? If I did, then that was not my intention. I will say that I'm probably going to stop engaging in this conversation as my normal life does not include any of this in it. I don't think I care anymore, so I'm just going to dip out unless something happens. (I hope I'm just misinterpreting tone like I tend to do especially over just written words. I hope you have a good day ☺)

@@abrielrotzler6009 huh? I never thought you said something that was offensive or that could have put BTS down. So forgive me if you misunderstood. Anyways, I was just giving you some info's about BTS because you said all you care to know about BTS is that they are a Kpop group (which is understandable) since that's how the media portray them and now it has become a well known fact in the industry, but that information is still highly debatable. If you consider Kpop "Korean pop" as a music genre then BTS won't fit since they don't have a particular music genre. They do hip-hop, ballad, pop, rock, classical, R&B, Jazz, EDM, synth pop, etc. They probably already did all music genre except soul & heavy metal. 😅 If one label BTS as Kpop because they became big and known inside the Kpop Industry, it would still be strange. Since it's no secret that BTS was never accepted, supported, nor acknowledged in the Kpop Industry from the start of their career until now. But the Kpop Industry loves to exploit or tie themselves to BTS, cause everytime BTS accomplish something in the West it gets credited to Kpop. Anyways I have lot more to say, I legit can even waste a whole day just to explain a tiny fraction of what BTS is, where they came from, what they accomplish, and why in world the Kpop and the Music Industry in the west are terrified of BTS and why they want to suppress them as much possible since they are such a huge threat in the music industry. To the point that they would delete million of views of BTS music video everyday. Filter atleast half of their streams in Spotify. And even delete 90% of their song sales so that they won't top the chart in Billboard Top 100. I want to say more since there's a lot more but I'm sharing too much. Lol I know you're not interested in BTS now or forever but I just want you to know No amount of money can bring back the time. A lot of ARMY'S learned that the hard way xD. But here's a thing you'll only be interested in BTS the moment you needed them. And you not needing them means it's a good thing since that means you're in good condition. So also have a nice day 😊

I actually feel sort of disappointed because I’ve been dancing ballet for 11 years so far (though I would count it more like 6 years) and I really aspire to dance at a really good dance company and I really want to audition to the Royal Ballet School in maybe one or two years. I’m still going to do that, though, cause it’s my dream and I’m not going to change my mind because of tweets, yet I feel so disappointed because among artists, we must support each other and sometimes I even think we need and complement each other. And it hurts me that they didn’t appreciate how much art BTS are doing with their music and the great message they’re sending us. Honestly, they have helped me love myself more and believe in myself and my dreams, being one of them to be a professional ballet dancer. So yeah... thanks for listening (reading tho) my non sense cause I don’t really know if it makes sense and my mother tongue is not English so also forgive my mistakes. 💜💜💜
