Kuo Hsing-Chun (59kg, Taiwan) and Coach Lin provide insights into what it takes to become a successful olympic weightlifter / athlete in general.
This video covers a wide range of issues related to improving your performance, from Coach Lin’s coaching philosophy to Kuo’s technical approach to the lifts to making practice more effective (based on research by Swedish psychologist Anders Ericsson).

Interesting that the best CrossFit athletes (Fraser & Froning) are known for keeping solid form throughout the workouts… coincidence? Probably not.
@bensonnyborja2008
@bensonnyborja2008 2 жыл бұрын
@@zacharyneilson9220 Fraser was a Weightlifter athlete prior to Crossfit. He joined CF events to get easy $500. Reigning Women champ Toomey is an Australian Weighlifter also, she won in Commonwealth games. Usual CrossFit winners are those with Weightlifting or Gymnastics background. But yeah, I think we need more quality coaching for Oly lifting in CrossFit. I injured my shoulder for trying to do Overhead Squat with a heavy weight without knowing basics.

I'm currently writing my master thesis in psychology on skill acquisition and adaptation and I use Anders Ericsson's principles of deliberate practice as part of it. Aswell as being a weightlifting coach the past 6 years or so, I applaud your presentation of these principles in this video and I couldn't have phrased it better myself! I salute you, kind Sir!

11:45 i think this is one of the most important foundations in training. it was one of the first things ive learned from watching some older klokov videos where he was explaining that its extremely important to start light and be able to maintain proper form with just the barbell, because some people cannot control the movement with lighter weights. he then proceeded to show the c&j and snatch movements using just a pvc pipe without any flinging or additional range of motion.

@@grzesiek1x To an extent. However, if you want to be able to have your body adapt to heavier weights... you have to lift heavier weights. Playing around with 20kg for a year won't do anything for you when it's time to actually feel how heavy weight can be in your hands while over your head. You can't lift 20kg and then expect the technique to carry over to 200kg. Your technique changes when weight is heavier, and the only way to practice getting better at a certain weight is to lift that certain weight over and over again.

This principles apply to any kind of skill mastery. Could be math or cooking. You dont NEED the coach, but it's really nice to have if it's a good one. Main thing is the drive to improve, and that has to be in and from you, not the coach. I became a scratch golfer on my own. Watched better players, asked lots of questions, read all the books, and most of all practiced and kept experimenting. What most people don't do and don't realize the value of is keeping a little notebook. Note down your progress and failures after every session. Further, note down "feels" That's the mental representation. YOU CAN PRACTICE THAT IN YOUR HEAD. Review those notes before the next session. Point here is that the notebook forces you to think about what you're doing and makes you GET SPECIFIC. As you get better, improvement becomes more specific. You've got to want it bad to get great. But you can.
