Your title is true. I worked for a large gas utility in New England. Jobs are filled by seniority at every level and some times get awarded to people that don't want to work but like ot. When your on off hour coverage for emergency there are just 3 to a crew. Middle of winter early hours and you need to find and fix a broken main. When you pull up there is usually an evacuated building and everyone has a job that needs to fit in. Some times you get a new person that just doesn't want to work. They're union and nothing you can do except hope the building doesn't go boom

Ive got in the habit of putting ribbon or colored duct tape on my grade on the arm. So when my labor is doing things I'm able to get within a couple tenths of grade. Cheap simple and time saving but a great tool nonetheless.

I work Midstream as a Lnadman, I get to see very little construction work but when I do im always amazed by the equipment/ Operators. You Sir do a fine job thanks for sharing.

Lol here in swfla, which is mostly sand, we weld a flat plat cross the tangs. Makes for a really smooth bottom for us to lay our HDPE or PVC pipes. We can also use it to clean spillage from off the road without tearing it up.

I'm just an S.T.D. (Stoopid Truck Driver) but I've trucked on a lot of pipeline jobs. It appears as if this is a very flowing operation here. I can't recall a job I've trucked on that went as smooth as this one appears to have.

The sheepsfoot compactor is interesting to me. They make us us plate compactors for everything here in Washington state.

Construction is ugly, but if you clean as you go, you will set yourself up for a clean mobe off when it’s said and done. Also, a clean construction site is far more safe than a cluttered, trash ridden mess. Leave every foot as clean as it can be within reason. Twisted ankles, and smashed fingers are very painful for the worker, and very expensive for the owner. Looks like a pretty efficient operation from the cushion of my recliner lol, good work!

As an ex pipelayer. Of 18yrs , I appreciate a good video where the main line trac hoe operator is yelling at the ground crew. The deeest I've been with gravity sewer was 45 feet, benched out the top 20ft then used ditch boxes for the rest. Averaged 300ft a day

Never seen shoring jakes set with machine sure slows operation down, we always did that by hand.

I am starting a pipe and excavation company later this year. This was a nice break from reading and learning all the math.
