Great content! I play regular tables and not Zoom, so I'm not sure how this translates, though I'm definitely going to start being much more aware of the time opponents take to make decisions. Personally though I only play 4 tables at a time and have always typically tried to take about the same time to make decisions, as to be balanced with my timing. Oddly enough I never thought of exploiting my opponents with time in this way, but I myself was at least aware that I didn't want to act quickly with good hands and slowly with marginal ones. Curious to try this out and also to hear more when your course comes out.
@saulocostapoker
@saulocostapoker Жыл бұрын
My experience is that in regular tables you have to adjust the thresholds to account for the fact that the game is slower. So while a 10 second 3bet would mean a lot in a zoom game, perhaps it doesn't mean as much in a regular table and I need to up that threshold to something like 15s. Gotta do some experimentation and pay a lot of attention until you have a good grasp on the thresholds that are optimal

Hey Saulo, I was reading your RIO Journal that you started and your last post 5 years ago you said that you do not enjoy poker , but you do it as a job and you wish you could do something else more productive. My question to you is, why are you still doing poker 5 years later ? Here is your quote "That's a very good question. I don't really regret anything I did in the past because all the decisions I made were what brought me here and you can learn and grow a lot even (I should actually say 'specially') from the bad ones. So no, I don't regret becoming a professional poker player. However, yes, I wouldn't advise anyone to take this path. Being a poker pro is insanely hard, not only to become one but to stay one lol Also the downsides of it are really significant. Yes money is good, yes you can work from your own home, yes you don't have a boss and yes you enjoy a degree of freedom in general that you wouldn't be able to in a regular career choice. But all those things are not making me a happier person than I was when I was at a 9-5 job 2.5 years ago. Also, for me personally, the decision of becoming a poker pro was very fast and at the time I didn't see poker for what it really is. So today I'm already thinking about when I will be able to abandon the poker career, because I think I could be doing more useful things with my life. But thats a personal search for purpose and meaning that is different for everyone. For now poker pays my bills (which are not few) and I'm grateful for it, so as long as it is my profession I will do my best at it every single day."

Great video Saulo!! One thing i was thinking about. If your software can do this great job and deep analisys is not worth it to add a future in wich the software can read hands so you can export hand historys out of the tables and take a look at the data for millions of hands? For sure it´s very easy for you taking in consideration your capacities as programer

However why do you think you were getting exploited? I understand your winrate increased because you started using timing tells. You started exploiting more population. However you have not explained why were you getting exploited? 2) Do you use some program, that can measure how long somebody took to take action?

id love a video on postflop timing tells. I imagine it’s much more complicated. I feel like it’s easy to both associate it very long and very short action with strength or weakness (either thinking long because they have a strong hand and are thinking through the best course of action to extract value or bc they have a weak hand and maybe dont want to call or are considering bluffing and on the other hand short timing is a classic bluff tell since youd want to think if u have a strong hand but some people are dumb and just play face up while others may be trying to utilize a reverse tell. like trying to look like some shitty donk shove on the turn to get called down light by bad players who don’t want to get bullied. that might not be a thing on most sites/stakes but it definitely is on 5nl & 10nl on ignition)

@dango470

Another way to use it exploitatively for extraction is "hollywooding". Ie, if you got a strong hand, you want to tank for a bit before making your 3bet or river jam. Likewise, I use timing to gauge if my river bluffs/value bets are any good. If im getting snap called, then its bad either way (cause with value betting, you could be extractinf more, unless the opp tanks for a bit) These are really good, im going to incorporate it more into my game

Great stuff man, thanks for sharing. I like very much the way you do work, very effective. Im a mtt player and i've always believe in timing tells, which are pretty simillar to what you just showed for most spots. Its all about obviousness and comfortableness over human behavior. Wide/close bluff combos take a while to raise, obvious and value combos go easy faster. The higher the pressure the most evident these timing tells gets imo.

Hey Saulo, Thinking about how important is the range composition on flops and turns of villain bets and raises (even more than frequency I would guess) Is there a way to have GTO proportion of bluff/value ratio to compare to H2N numbers on the Flop and Turn nodes? Is there any heuristic besides the 70/30 flop and 50/50 turn? I think these don't work for many spots. Or maybe some way to get the specifics spots approximate numbers? If so, which hands categories would be a bluff? Draws, even 3rd pair if is an overbet sizing? Thanks for the content

Hi Saulo, thanks for the info, this is a piece of information to think about; just wanted to ask, have you by chance tried to contact anybody of their admin team, maybe finding them through their insta account or something? I mean maybe they could share any extra things you were unable to find. The data you collected using the training platform is also valuable but obviously cannot be compared to the data they processed in the live game sessions. I'll try to find and reach out to them but if you already did, please let me know. Thanks. P.S.: I shared this info with my team (mtt), and they laughed even though I showed a bunch of hands where it worked :D Although I'm not using this like a mega exploit like some crazy stuff you were showing off back in the days in your discord server (xD) but in the situations when there are some arguments for call, some arguments for raise, and the villain tanking just adds some extra argument for raising the pot (testing it both pre flop and post flop)

Yes, distraction is a major element of timing tells, and it's already accounted for in the data. Also keep in mind its not a black and white situation where longer decision NEVER is a strong hand. That's not what this is about...it's a probability distribution where different timings will on average have different range compositions. But the same hand can appear in all the timing intervals, what changes is the probability. Probability is all that matters here

This doesn't change anything mate. If what you are saying is true, then the leak is still there, its just reversed. Now when people act quickly preflop they never have QQ+, and you can call wider and reraise wider because of that 😁Its impossible not to have timing leaks

I like this video, thanks for the information. However I feel like the training environment does not make sense, since your students will have watched this video and adjusted their tells at least a bit, no? Realistically speaking, a low amount of people will join your training software, without watching your videos (quite religiously).

Timing tells are a function of a unsolvable logistical problem - it's impossible to allocate the same amount of attention to all the different decisions. Regardless of whether people know about it or not, they will continue to have leaks

Analysing your students data on games vs bots doesn’t make sense. Since they know they play bots, so they will never try to balance their timing. Of course it takes less time to act with top of your range on average, it is obvious. But in actual games people know that their timing might be used by opponent so they pay more attention to it. I’m not saying timing tell is not a thing, of course it is, I’m saying that data collected vs bots is irrelevant, it couldn’t show anything else

So the second part of the video doesn’t really confirm the data collected by the time mojo, since it is not from human vs human games. But anyway overall conclusions are probably correct

I play multiple tables. If my timing is off, its probably because I have a decision on another table...idk if your "timing" tells are very reliable.

This is weaker than Live action reads. But I guess if you are playing low/micro stakes, I can see timing being a "thing". This isn't worth installing in your tool chest. Just because someone can explain some BS doesn't mean it doesn't stink. I hope that you all play like this. Better for me. lol

sit stand walk desks are a thing. it takes me 25+ seconds to go from standing -> sitting. i would be weary of using preflop timing tells.
