The Sketchy History Of 'Don't Cha'

the muddy origin of ‘Dont Cha’ is interesting, a career defining 2005 hit for the burlesque group turned popstars wasn’t originally theirs. In fact, it had live a life of its own small success before being propelled to superstardom.

It’s just sad because it perfectly shows that pop is just about marketability and not talent. She’s so beautiful but her image didn’t fit so they threw her to the side. It’s terrible that they didn’t even fully inform her and made her the last to know that the song was being given away.

My first thought. Especially mentioning Puffy I thought, "oh yeah, Puffy wanted to know the girl, maybe see if he could pull some of her songs for J.Lo or some artist he dumps in a year or two." These men really judging women as fat and ugly because they're not specifically like J.Lo or PCD. Mind you both dancers with dancer bodies and trying to sell them as full rounded talents and suspiciously stealing from still gorgeous black singers like Tori and Ashanti. We wouldn't be out here like mocking birds if the environment wasn't full of the same repeated noise.

This reminds me of when they tried to take away the song “one thing” from Amerie and give it to Jennifer Lopez in 2005 when she already had the song out on radio a lot. I think if tori would’ve had more radio play it would’ve been too late for the pussycat dolls too take. Then it would’ve stayed as tori’s song.

This video (and the commentary about how new, black and specifically black artists go through it in the industry) made me think about Normani. You should do a video on her journey as a solo artist. I had such high hopes for her after Fifth Harmony and to this day want to see her succeed. But I can’t help but think about whats going on behind the scenes that we may not know about... Maybe she is just taking her time with the debut album (which I totally understand)? Maybe she is being gaslighted as an artist (which I also understand)?
