The Sleeping Realm Theory is a 480-page Kingdom Hearts document proposing that the KH3 we play is on its second timeline, and takes place within the Sleeping Realm or “Unchained State.”

I absolutely think this is 100% plausible, not because of anything specifically in the game(though the evidence is A+ and I appreciate how much research y'all did) but because of what I know about the franchise

Yes! The wildest thing is none of these are new concepts! Sleeping realms, time travel, re-living a period of time to change fate, it's all been done in canon!

Dude... I'm legitimately blown away at the fact that I had NO IDEA that Riku's hair changed after he got eaten, my brain made the illusion that his hair was short the entire time (I'm slightly disappointed in myself for not noticing). Also, the other things that you guys had pointed out were really interesting and had me thinking, ex: being the start of the game itself had a bunch of meanings.

51:30 "Nobody thought twice" Hmm, now what's the name of that song..."Don't Think Twice" which has such interesting lyrics such as "Kingdom of Thevies", "You're only everything I ever dreamed of", "I'm only crying 'cause I never dreamed it'd take this long" and the Chorus: "I want you for a lifetime So if you're gonna think twice, baby I don't want to know, baby I don't want to know Everything is just right But if you're gonna think twice, baby I don't want to know, baby I don't want to know" Almost feels like a letter from Nomura to the fans who are fans begrudingly because they don't like direction of the series. He doesn't want to know their negative thoughts as he's making his art, his story, not to appease the fans. The next line: "Kiss Me Once [Referring to KH1] Kiss Me Twice [KH2] Kiss Me Three Times [KH3] Cross The Line [End of Dark Seeker Saga to a new story] Then telling the fans not to "think twice" subliminal messaging is highly effective in catchy music even if most people fail to realize or deny believing it In a way, the mirror shown in Dive To The Heart is reflective not only of Sora, but the Player themselves. This is also amplified by all those floating mirrors showing clips of the previous games, not only for Sora's memories, but ours as well. The "Kiss Me" verse is repeated once suggesting that the idea is to maybe have a "9-part series", or rather 3 sets of 3 "sagas" Ha... 3x3, "three by three" how fitting the symbol for multiplication is an "X" which is kind of important in the series. "Recusant's Sigil/Chi/Cross", etc.

I would also like to add that in the intro Sora fights Xemnas without Riku. Riku is also barely in it. Does this hint at Sora's memory problem regarding Riku?

Talking about the Dive into the Heart: We have more examples of mirrors. In 0.2 when Aqua gets pulled through the mirror by another version of herself. Just thought I should point this out.

So the book art. clues he talked about. With this lore dump we got. And data sora and riku being shown very firmly in the 2.5 box art. I believe fully they will be needed to bring sora and riku back into the universe when that time comes.

Omg … I’m 6min in and I’m learning that KH has done something I have thought for a long time would be so cool to do for a story. Where you play/read one version then something changes/time shenanigans or something, so you play/read it again and it’s just different, with seemingly no way to go back and vague explanations (if at all) of what changed. This is blowing my mind.

Something else I noticed from the knowledge here. Throughout every disney world in KH3 we saw the world logos all throughout. So I believe those parts of base game. Are still original time line. But the end and keyblade grave yard stuff I still agree with that whole assumption

"Do you want some help?" "Who are you?" THAT'S EPHEMER THERE'S NO WAY IT'S ANYONE ELSE AND HE EXPLICITLY WAS LIKE THAT TO SORA AS WELL AT A CRITICAL POINT. And if that's not a dream, then explain why our keyblades flew around to help Sora take down the Demon Tide. I'm calling it now, The Lights join the Dandelions in the next Saga.

But with that being said. That would bring to reason after the time jump back. And everyone's restored Kairi could still be affected by xehanorts control of darkness since she is a princess of light. And her falling to darkness should have way bigger implications than just one man down.

Peachy something just hit me like a ton of bricks if you guys are theory crafting again. So in the finally it was pointed out to us that the data versions of the dandelion leaders where not present in the data world. and luxu was watching over them. this is my thoughts on how they time traveled. I believe luxu stole the data versions of them. to bring to the future so a medium could be established in the present and I truly think thats whats up because replaying kh2 now. xigbar announces that he was the one to find and recruit marluxia and add him to the organization. hes the only one really that could have pulled that off really since hes been cheating death all this time. And i believe hes able to extend his lifespan now because he has that pure darkness in him. keeping itself alive. I believe he did body hop many times like he stats in the reports. but even xehanort was aging in some way though he to body hopped. and I think luxu ties to darkness explain that perfectly.

So. You know how birth by sleep set up that. Soras heart is a open space for hearts to take refuge in. Well. I think that fact may be responsible for the masters appearance in the secret movie. I'm starting to believe he left his body behind. Traveled to the future to ride along in soras heart. And then ride all the way on to quadratuim

…I’m finally getting around to watching this, y’all haven’t even started reading the actual theory yet I can’t help but think… dream drop distance, Sora and Riku are progressing through the same worlds but at different rates, Sora creates his sound idea first, etc. Does that imply that the farther you are in darkness the faster time is? Is it an exponential increase? Or is there just… a threshold. And is Quadratum considered “dark”. Fate or whatever decided it would be an appropriate place to send Sora as a punishment of sorts for abusing the power of waking, does that imply dark? And if so does that mean that Sora will have been there for longer than a year at this point?

So I rewatched the KH3 intro and, thanks to this theory, I may have noticed what's probably obvious: Xehanort: Kairi+Sora Eraqus: Riku+Sora Since Xehanort focused so heavily on Kairi, beyond him being a vessel he missed Riku's importance to Sora and the outcomes it could bring. (iirc YMX didn't understand how RIku gained control over his darkness in DDD all while that game being the pivotal turning point for Riku's character involving a certain someone...) So, by holding Riku's piece in the cutscene it appears Eraqus understood Riku's true role. Thus allowing Eraqus to -cheat- win via True Love's sacrifice and ultimately stopping his idiot husband. In a way, just like how YMX was blindsided by the sudden -cheating- counter by Eraqus with his sudden inclusion of Riku... One could make parallels as to how some miss Riku's importance and actual role in the narrative. By being so focus on Kairi and Sora's relationship that they are blinded (and later blindsided) to all the Riku+Sora stuff happening underneath, their roles within the narrative and the effect on their characters. I dunno, maybe I'm late on figuring this out, lol. I just found it interesting that KH3 intro's is so Kairi focused that it lacks Riku at many key points and this theory pointing out the intro is Xehanort's chess game. /rambling

Riku also seems to be a retro causal test by the Master to see if people can become immunity to Darkness so he can make the Foretellers vessels. So the Master exposed Riku to Ansem, Seeker of Darkness indirectly to "test his Script". Then, he turns Sora + Riku into a Child of Destiny, a Singularity like Xehanort was.

I wouldn't be surprised if Xehanort was originally the beta test but failed before a secret test during their meeting so MoM switch tracks. "What if instead of the Child of Destiny being 1 person, it's 2?" Demoting Xehanort to another pawn. lol

I really think that's just hardware limitation and design. I mean you can't really put anything past KH, but if each individual model doesn't change, I don't think it means anything story-wise. His eyes have changed color because of hardware for the entire series.

looking at that gif of chess and Kairi's paupu fruit at 1:30:53 I got two reads of this. 1. that Kairi's in someones clutches being forced onto Sora and 2.. well.. that fruit is... light... a lot lighter than the other one. It reminds me of Riku. maybe rather than it being Kairi's fruit, that picture represents Sora some day receiving Riku's love and forever... maybe Kairi will be instrumental in that in the future? hmm!

JUST NOTICED SOMETHING the logo the missing piece it looks like the blade on the keyblade that sora used to release kairis heart from himself in kh1 and the entire point is kairis heart is missing in this one so that makes perfect sense why the logo is missing a piece (kairis heart) and why it’s shaped like it is (a took that was originally used to free her)

I've listened to this whole thing over a few times now and I think alot of it is on a good track. However there is one fact that is simply wrong and messes up some point. When in remind sora meets Namine and asks her why shes not with Kairi. She says she was with her until they where struck with a powerful wave of darkness. The First or 2and timeline considering how correct your interpretation is.

Not really. It is now implied the Master and Darkness scripted this, and The Master imagined Sora and Riku and the Disney worlds into Actualization. This are his "characters" brought from the Darkness and the Dreaming. See the Union X finale cutscene between The Master and Darkness. Further, it is implied by Terra Xehanort that Xehanort used the Power of Waking to make the things he does Destined to happen like Sora did. Therefore, all the Games so far are "scripted" to birth from Dreaming Hearts. So the World of Light sits on top of the Dreaming and the Darkness and the Spirits.

If you want a far more condensed part of this theory, it is that: - Kingdom Hearts 3 is the second runthrough of a timeline that should have ended in all keyblade wielders against Xehanort dying. Most of the events in Kingdom Hearts 3 are taking place in the Dream World. - The reason that this strange, dreamlike do-over is happening is because Riku made a sacrifice when Sora was about to fall to the darkness. This is the culmination of Riku’s growth to embrace his powers to protect the person that matters to him (and that is clearly hinted to be Sora, and apparently has been done since Chain of Memories). - The cue that this is a dream is that Riku’s hair is in a Dream Eater style from Dream Drop Distance. Sora also have Dream Drop Distance powers as well. - While Riku maintains the body and did the sacrifice to send Sora back in time, Kairi maintains Sora’s body. Both are confirmed in the Station of Awakening shown in KH3 with specific affirmations of supporting Sora, and Kairi maintaining some part of Sora is supported by the fact that Kairi’s dissipation thingy when Xehanort kills her is roughly the same material the Heartless Sora fights in the beginning - of water. - This plot of a do-over to prevent a bad future was done with KH Chi and KHUX. - Sora’s body and heart had to be saved simultaneously in order to avoid Sora’s true death. This is because abusing the power of waking to save friends can only be done safely if people preserve your heart and body, like what Riku and Kairi are doing. - For some reason, all the worlds he goes through know Sora must make a big sacrifice so all the world talk about not seeing loved ones or sacrificing yourself for loved ones. Additionally, Young Xehanort acts like Sora has abused the power of awakening and will be condemned to unreality. - The timeline works like this: - In the real world, Riku sacrifices himself against the horde of Shadows and then does the Dive to the Heart at the same time Sora completes Olympus and does the Dive to the Heart. Within Sora’s Dive, a vague goal is given to him to save seven hearts. - Kingdom Hearts 3 happens, and by the events of KH3 the plan to save the seven keyblade wielders goes off successfully, but because Sora has to use the power of waking to save Kairi once again, Sora dissipates from reality and lands in Quadratum. - Kairi was always going to be fated to be Xehanort’s sacrifice ever since KH1 for some reason, but also reiterated by a chess game. That, plus Kairi already working overtime to preserve Sora’s body, means that Sora recognizes all she’s done and uses the power of waking once again to save her. - When the symbol for the Keyblade Graveyard is shown, that is when the timeline shifts to being a new timeline, and this trick has been done before with The World That Never Was in KH2. - As Kairi is protecting Sora’s body by being in Sora’s heart, Sora’s last act is to release Kairi into the real world and since the last defense against disappearing is gone, Sora disappears.

What I never understood and will probably never understand is how, with all that we know (Secret Reports of KH3, Union X and the Ultimania interviews) how there are actually people who are so gung ho on denying that the Sleeping Realm Theory could be true. Like, even if you don't think that every aspect of the theory is true, the prospect of KH3 taking place mostly on the second timeline is something that is precedented and would totally make sense with every little weird detail. And yet somehow there are still people who don't think it's true? I also don't get why people are so opposed to that. Even if you don't think it's super cool, wouldn't you want a story that makes sense rather than a story full of weird details you don't know what to make of? But whatever, I guess.

I just realized that Xehanort is kinda parroting the heteronormative biases of the audience: manipulating Kairi's story, trying to make something out of nothing under the assumption that Sora is romantically interested in Kairi because boy + girl + proximity. There was even the fakeout from one of the mobile games (Dark Road I think?) where we all thought they were implying Player from Union reincarnated into Xehanort 🧐🔍 But it turns out we're just the ones who raised him to be like this... \*gasp\* 😮 this knowledge, combined with his eventual gay dying after a years long marital dispute.... Xehanort is internalized homophobia confirmed 💅

I think the Ancient Darkness is creating False Lights through Agent of Darkness. Xehanort is one of them. As No Heart X, Positive Love is beyond him.... Sora and Riku Love, even more so.

@@SkimoStories Actually, Sora in Kh3 straight up says he 'doesn't get Love" in the Pirates World. And in the novels, when Kairi and Sora do the One Heart, Sora's only thoughts are "Kairi's hands are sweaty". Not " I feel Light or Strong" like he does with Riku, over and over. Just Kairi is sweaty. gee.. So, if at this point, after see Disney Fairytales, over and over , and seen the poupou drawing, he still doesn't know what Love feels like, and doesn't think anything romantic about Kairi when she is literally holding his hand.... I don't think it is a thing....

45:27 is where I am at currently and I still don't even know what the theory is. Are you guys just reciting UX events and saying it's a theory? Because they already differentiate the realms they're within KH3. "Reality and Unreality". Saying it's "Sleeping Realm" is just hijacking plot. I don't understand why this is a "Theory". This probably a lot more sense when ReMind and Melody of Memories wasn't out . But as I see it's a big nothing burger wearing the plot as a jacket.

Reiterating the events of Ux is for the purpose of showing that this kind of time-travel and worldline-hopping in order to rewrite events was something already established in the series before KH3 was released.

Just started watching, and as someone with ADHD, I got pretty impatient that it took almost 14 minutes before y'all actually started talking about the theory. I'm sorry, I just get so anxious when people take too long to get to the point. I understand that you felt the need to preface the video, but it shouldn't take 14 minutes of general rambling about how Kingdom Hearts be. It's already a pretty long video. It needs a bit of editing.
