I said this in another comment but if you want to look at more sonic music then check out Crush 40. Johnny Gioeli, who is also the singer of the band Hardline, sung for Crush 40, which is a rock band that did actual music for previous sonic games. I recommend looking at “Live and Learn” first.

I think this was the only licensed song on the ost, but the composer was a big fan of One OK and wanted them because they fit the vibe of the soundtrack

It might not be the usual metal stuff you do but you should check out Cyberspace DJ Mix or One Way Dream, this entire soundtrack is so varied with everything from Rock to EDM to Orchestral to Pop.

He can also fly. They balance it by having the way you get it be difficult. (Getting all 7 chaos emeralds) In this game, instead of being an optional powerup that unlocks the true final boss or is only used for the final boss it's used for every single island boss fight. There are 4 of these and is where most of the songs you heard are played. It's why the songs go so hard, because they are trying to make you feel much more powerful than usual.
