Sofonisba Anguissola was a late Renaissance painter and is one of the most talented portrait artists of the Italian sixteenth century. She was esteemed by Vasari and Michelangelo and famous for her innovative compositions. She had a worldwide reputation as an artist and portrayed many kings, emperors and members of the nobility in Italy and Spain, in which she excelled.
