It is both mindboggling and nauseating to see a serial killer be receive such adulation and be celebrated as a celebrity. I dont believe for a minute, that he was rehabilitated. His actions, when he knew, he was about to get caught, clearly showed, he knew, he was in the wrong and only cared about escaping the consequences of his actions. And in the end, he fooled them all. I only wonder, how many women paid for that with their lives, coz he no doubt learned from his capture.

This is a very puzzling and yet horrific story about a man who literally got away with murdering several young women, period. How he could be insane but yet rehabilitated enough to attend college, sell his artwork, and basically become a celebrity, too. May the souls of these young women whose lives were gone to soon, rest in eternal peace. Great investigating and presentation, as always of your shows.

I don’t understand why Echeverría pardoned him, but what can you expect when the president himself was corrupt at the time like so many Mexican politicians…. Good morning Brief 💼 Case! This is a case that certainly took a lot of twists. I'm not even sure how I feel about it...from the illness which most certainly did affect his brain, to the taunting of his first wife, and his mother's enabling, the murders and his life in and out of doctor's offices, asylums and prisons, then to go on to be a free pardoned man who painted and practiced law then lived to a ripe old age, I know most would feel angered that it seems no justice was done regarding the young murdered women, and his seemingly faked mental illness. On the other hand, he had a very real brain injury as a youth which seems to have changed his whole person into someone who seemingly was psychopathic. I wonder at that, and sympathize with the fact that this indeed was out of his control due to illness, yet do not agree that murdering is okay. So what is just in these situations? The families of all suffer. If the man was able to study and get help while hospitalized and even imprisoned, to learn how to better manage his impulses and think in a different manner, I commend that effort. I cannot judge if he was truly rehabilitated, but if indeed he had not committed another murder after his release then that does speak volumes. It is a sad situation all around, especially for the families. If I may, I have to say I always giggle a bit when you speak of the "garden burials" in this case he brushed aside the dirt and discovered...A FOOT. 😳 (As a play on words...there's murder and mayhem AFOOT...🤣😉) I am a gardener...and even so, I'm always looking at the gardens I pass by, admiring them from both an aesthetic and labor viewpoint. Now I look at them sideways with a bit of 🤔 suspicion in mind...🤣 Wondering just WHAT they may be hiding beneath...🤦🏻‍♀️ Have a lovely day, all! 🌄💐

Justice seems to have eluded the victims. I add the word "seems", because I know he was incarcerated but was incarceration for any amount of time enough? I am grappling with what it means to have justice for victims of femicide. Is justice suppose to look like vengeance, whereas the perpetrator is incarcerated for life or executed? Not that the choice has to be binary, but it doesn't sit well that this man was able to end the lives of several women, but is able to have a 2nd chance at life with wife and children. 😟

Wow! What a puzzling and incredible story. Was he so insane and intelligent that he was able to function as an over-achiever? Did he somehow thrive behind prison walls ? Did his incarceration steady him in a way that normal life could not? So many questions…..but clearly he was a very scary character!

Hi, I’m from North Wales, UK. I live in Bagillt near Holywell. There used to be a cinema in the village (demolished now) run by a man called Peter Moore, a serial killer. I thought I would mention this in case your interested. I love every episode, thank you.

Indeed a mystery wrapped in an enigma: the man never seems to have returned to violence, so he has to be counted as rehabilitated - but all too late for his poor victims - we're a strange species.

Umm this was interesting. I could never imagine a serial killer released, pardon, and then having a meeting with the President (pretty much being celebrated). I'm just in a state of discombobulation with this one.
