The property once owned by the Benders has only been used for farming over the years. Recently, it was purchased and will be professionally excavated. Also, there is a local museum of the Benders which can be accessed online, I think.

Tortures like that I have always believed and heard that they are tortured themselves in hell in the same way they tortured their victims. I only hope that the vigilantes actually did catch them but if you ask 20 different men there's 20 different stories on how they hung them. I believe they didn't want to come back and admit that they got away.

They also said a lady on her death bed admitted she was the daughter. I forget where this was. But, it's said she gave details. By the time law enforcement heard she had died. Who knows how many bodies they really had. If you believe the death bed confession. She lived along life. But, in poverty. Everyone stay safe. ✌ BC, this is a very interesting unsolved case. 👍good one.

My father grew up near the place where the Benders had lived. He took us the family there once and told us the story. He didn't know anything after they left, though. I really appreciate knowing that the authorities didn't give up on trying to find them, but it's horrible that some people were lynched in the meantime. I'm surprised that they were using false names and pretending to be a family. I hadn't heard that. Your research is always so thorough! Really excellent job on this one.

During the Dark Ages, newly constructed churches were often consecrated by burying homeless children alive on the grounds. I'm really not surprised that a so-called family of religious fundamentalists used the same horrifying method of torture and murder against an innocent baby. She obviously wasn't homeless, but she was in a similarly vulnerable position at that moment.

Ive heard of this family (not sure how or where) reminds me of like a Wolf Creek B & B - only one available and almost certain death guaranteed. Became even more of a spoken legend due to them not ever being apprehended I imagine. What a family!

This story was fabulous, horrific and so detailed. I never cease to be educated by your stories truly. Thanks for finding often overlooked and obscure cases. This "family" were monsters and very sick people who preyed upon the lonely traveler. You truly captured them. You are one of the best on any platform.

As soon as I saw the title I knew where we were going BC. I have heard of this horrible family of the 1870's on another of my favorite channels, they have two videos one video tells the story and shows 2 grave markers: the so call son and daughter's graves Glenwood Springs Colorado, the other video shows the now owner of the property where this chilling murders happened and there is a small museum too. I can understand one "evil" person in a family...but four (?) RIP all those souls.

I heard about this family from the Blurry Photos podcast. My theory is that they got the wrath of Forseti and any deities of diseases brought upon them so they suffered and are still suffering in Helheim or else have been reincarnated as bugs. That’s the perfect fate for them. If there is an afterlife that’s what they are most likely doing.

Here in the UK, there’s an expression ‘going on a bender’. It means going out and getting shit-faced drunk. I wonder if it’s related to this.

@@lazyhomebody1356 Lol.. how intriguing, lazy h - 🤔 I remember my Scottish uncle using the phrase and I asked him what it meant.. he said, "We'll be bending our elbows and getting a few beers down us!" I always remember that.. I was only little! Now I googled it too.. a sixpence because people could drink a lot with that amount and a sixpence "bends easily" - huh!? 😆 Ah, found this too: _The origin is not certain. Some historians think it may refer to the act of bending one's elbow to take a drink, while others believe it is associated with the phrase "getting bent out of shape."_ Well, we may never know for sure then bit I am sticking with my version lol 😆🥂
