Poor Mrs. Langfeldt. I know from my grandparents how wonderful it is to find other people that speak your mother tongue, and how overly trusting people can be because of that loneliness (they came from Germany too). She was asking to be robbed, though, by displaying all her jewelry. But no one deserves to be killed for a bunch of sparkles. After a busy morning, I was really looking forward to this. And you delivered in your usual impeccable style. Thanks Brief Case!

@@kcbh24 Incredibly small parts are briefly discussed but nothing is confirmed as to why he immigrated to the United States. It is conjectured that "he may not have left the army of his own free will" but this says incredibly little about his leaving his home. The only things known for sure are that he was from a well-to-do family, he was decorated in the military and served with distinction, and that he was knighted. I, too, am very curious as to his full backstory.

What a very interesting case!! It’s very unfortunate that the elderly lady had to lose her life. It makes me wonder if maybe Joseph’s military exploits deranged his mind a bit. I know that war does terrible things to the minds of all involved. God bless them, I know it’s not easy returning to civilian life, but it’s still no excuse for murder.

@@melsterifficmama1808 That’s a blessing sometimes though it feels like Big Brother. There was a Chinese student murdered in my town. Look up the story of Brendt Christianson. Cameras helped find him and convict him of the murder of YingYing. She had just arrived in America and was the first in her family to be seeking a college degree. It’s a heartbreaking story that might be on That Chapter. The local Chinese community drew together to help the family travel to America and took care of their expenses. Justice was served. I stood at the courthouse with many others when he was indicted. Chinese news teams were there to cover it.

Shame he took the cyanide capsule. He should have faced his charges like a man rather than taking the cowards way out. And what's with all the wives coming forward for his possessions after he murdered Mrs. Hanley? Did these ladies honestly think a murderer hubby was going to leave behind a vast fortune for them? Even if there was anything of value left behind, it was likely stolen therefore not legally able to be obtained by any of his "spouses".

I would guess it was him sending those women to gather his belongings, as mentioned in the story those Medals were very important to him.. he couldnt show up to obtain it himself because he was wanted and would be arrested obviously. I would also add in another thought, not all of those woman could have been sent by him, one or more could have been a reporter or bounty hunter or sent by someone else for w/e reason. My reasoning is how widely reported the story was, it was in newspapers across the country and beyond, so it is quite likely one or more of those women were writers for papers, be it from the US or other countries, who knows? He could have even been wanted by other authorities and they were investigating, possibly a European country Given he deleted himself with a cyanide capsule, i lean more towards other countries governments looking for him, possibly something to do with espionage? Cyanide capsules arent something that was either readily available at that time or a common way to delete yourself . Anyways.... Thats my speculation . Cheers. i

I love Brief Case. It's my go to bedtime channel. I have to have the theme music, I can't have the video starting without it being right at the beginning. Please please keep it up, thankyou for creating a brilliant crime account channel.

One must conjecture if Herr Blanther was the inspiration for Thornton Wilder & Alfred Hitchcock's film "Shadow of a Doubt" (1943) which was set in the town of Santa Rosa Ca. Joseph Cotton plays the menacing and very suave Uncle Charlie.

please talk about the Lucas Terra case. A 14-year-old boy who was murdered by pastors in Brazil, it's been 20 years of injustice and as the accused are from a very rich church in Brazil, the case is constantly hushed up.

Hi BC and fans. Thanks for another fascinating story. A man with a poor moral compass, steal, kill, suicide. There must have been a good reason he didn't return to his own family in Europe. Thanks again
