I remember we used to screw with our PL. He hated saluting so our squad would line up single file and make him salute each and every one of us. He was a great leader and an amazing man. Funny as hell. Love you LT

Submarine officers are the same way. I'll never forget when my division and I were returning to the boat from lunch. We saw our DIVO walking towards us on the pier and we decided to line up single file, about 6 feet apart so he would have to salute all 9 of us individually. Another time I saluted one of the other officers in my command and he simply told me "no" and didn't return it 😂

Forgot to tell the LT his rank is upside down. I've also been a part of salute bombs with officers we dislike. See him approaching and we suddenly open our ranks far enough to where he has to salute each and every enlisted member as we pass. Sure, we have to all salute the officer but he's gotta go through the motion 10 times.

I remember reading a story where some slightly smarter officer saw a bunch of enlisted guys outside and possibly preparing to do a salute line/salute bomb, so he called them all to attention, ordered present arms, saluted them after they did present arms, ordered arms, and told them to carry on.

Basically since we were off base there was more of a chance of someone that would want to kill the higher ups they would know who they are (since i just saluted a higher up). So i was told not to off base to not raise suspicion as who the higher ranking official is and to continue saluting on base where people of clearance could see

Y’all think that’s bad. When I was a young private, I got dropped for saying, “Good morning, Major.” instead of, “Good morning, Sir.” while passing and saluting on a sidewalk. I was an Air Force kid growing up and my brain short circuited that day for some reason. Apparently, that don’t fly in the Army.

“You going to salute me back” “no.” “That’s understandable” I was guilty of a left handed salute… I was carrying a box with my right hand and didnt realize I was approaching an officer… saluted with my left hand, “Good afternoon, sir” then as if I needed to rat myself out and avoid any correction I said, “I just saluted with my left hand” thankfully he realized I knew I was an idiot and he kept on walking.

@@ThatGuy182545 No. Do you think the CC sits at a desk all day under cover? You knock, are acknowledged, march the most direct path to a position about 2 paces in front of the desk, come to attention, salute, and say ,”SSgt. Wingnut, reporting as ordered, sir/ma’am.” Hold the salute until the officer drops the return salute and remain at attention until told to sit, at ease, or whatever the officer says to do next. When the officer signals the visit is over, you return to attention, render a salute again, ask “Will that be all, sir/ma’am?”, and hold the salute until the offer drops their return salute. Then they will say something like, “Dismissed.” Or “That will be all.” You then drop your salute, do an about face, and walk directly out the door. The only time you would be wearing cover in this situation is if you are under arms. For example, if you are Air Force Security Forces and have a weapon, or if it’s some kind of of ceremonial thing where you have ceremonial firearm. As a rule, when you are under arms, you always wear your cover inside and out - unless you are in a no-hat no-salute area like the flight line. You never wear cover on the flight line because it can get sucked into an airplane intake and damage the plane. It’s a safety (FOD) thing.

We usually only do it when our CO (O5) and above cross the quarterdeck or come on the sub or at all hands that's it. I be dapping up my Division Officer (O3) lmao. Guess its just different in submarines.
