I actually really want them to make a Luigi Mansion film with Charlie Day as the star. It would probably become a Halloween classic movie

40 yrs old dude , grew up with Mario since I was 6 loved every minute of the movie . Me and my kid enjoyed it ❤❤

I showed my daughter the trailer and told her who the person was doing the voice and she literally said "he sounds like Mario from the games" sometimes as adults we can get too critical. My 7 and 13 year olds loved this movie and I loved it as well. Had tons of little Easter eggs in there for adults.

Metroid really could work as an animated film. It has such beautiful and haunting atmospheres and plot that I definitely think it's due time for it if they expand on the Nintendo film endeavors ❤

As a dude born in 1980, I had zero issues with this movie. Loved the 80's songs that were included, and everything they included as easter eggs was phenomenal. I will definitely pay to go see it again.

The movie was awesome in my opinion. It really hit major points in the franchise. Idk why people think it’s a bad movie. My 6 years old nice even said this was her favorite movie ever.

Charlie Day was born to entertain. He's an A list celebrity, but his talent still feels underrated

A kirby movie would be hilarious. Starts off all bright and sunny and definitely a kids movie, then friggen Zalgo shows up and tries to make it into an R-rated horror movie or something until Kirby eats him and it goes back to being cute and adorable.

Chris Pratt and Charlie Day’s voices were MUCH better than we feared. And I really appreciate that they touched on their voices/accents. There were some very quick and subtle Easter eggs. The story and directing felt wonky. Kids wouldn’t care, but it made my eyes twitch.

Peaches was such a good song. It’s ridiculous how much better this movie was than anyone could have believed.

I'm glad the film isn't bad! I feel like we were truly spoiled with the animated excellence that was Puss In Boots 2. Hoping that Spiderverse continues to raise the bar for this lane of animation

Super Mario 64 was so incredible, wow were we blessed to have that as kids. I played the hell out of that game. I still get chills when I hear the Dire Dire Docks theme song.

The 80s rock elements all made perfect sense as the game originated in the 80s. So for someone like me in their 40s the soundtrack really taps into the nostalgia of what was going on in general pop culture as a kid at that time. Very wise of the creators to include this type of soundtrack to capitalise on the nostalgia for the older generation while simultaneously introducing this music to a younger crowd.

I watched this with my kids. The looks on their faces during the entire movie told me everything I needed to know . They absolutely loved it and it was one of the best movie going experiences I’ve had in a while . Hopefully they make plenty more movies with the Nintendo IP.

It sounds like this movie is exactly what I was expecting. All I ask from movies is to give me enjoyment and it sounds like we'll get some out of this.

I would love to get an adaptation of the Mario and Luigi series, or Mario Galaxy, or a Zelda movie, or a Metroid movie, all of that would slap so hard if they had this quality.

Hands down the best video game movie I’ve ever seen.

This movie was well done. The references to the game and music were not overwhelming. There was enough nostalgia to warm your heart. If you could go inside the game and wonder what the universe there was and how things worked, this movie would be it.

Just got back from the film and it was great! You hit all the right sighs of the film. Thin plot, out of place music, super fast pace. But it’s a massive nostalgia bomb filled with little beats, Easter eggs and references that the fans of the whole franchise are going to pick up on. It gave us so much in that reference department and yet left so much off the table that it’s clear they plan to hit us with more in the sequel. Which I believe they have set up nicely. Looking forward to MORE.

The possibilities are endless they could take this cinematic world in so many different directions ❤. Great movie

A space operatic Star Fox movie, a fantasy epic Zelda, and a horror-tinged Metroid movies are the top of my list for future Nintendo movies.

I loved the 80s music in the movie. The movie itself takes place in the modern day (evidenced by the fact that Luigi has a smartphone), so the 80s music was the moviemakers' way of honoring the time in which Mario was first introduced (the 80s). It made perfect sense to me and I feel the soundtrack was by far the best part of this movie.

This is the beginning of the SSBCU (super smash brothers cinematic universe) 😂 this movie was great and fun and funny. Exactly why I remember going to the movies.

One of the best movies this year!! Awesome movie perfect story!! All actors and voices were on point.

biggest off is changing peach completely so she becomes another "strong female side kick" every blockbuster has. peach is the definition of being the damsel, caring and everything cute like nice hair, tea and cake. when she fights, she has dorky animations in smash bros and funny moments like her cutscene on metaknights ship. in her own game where she saves mario, she uses her parasol for many needs, genuinely gets angry to burn down enemies, cries to run fast and water the vines, sing to fly and become joyful to heal. she should have functioned as the heart warming, jokingly cute and sometimes explosive sidekick as she was in the series. completely changing her personality and her high pitched voice for a "mentally tough, independant woman" is a big waste and cliche.

Fun fact: this movie was released 30 years after Super Mario Bros (1993)

I actually didn't mind the surplus of 80s pop and rock songs in the movie. Considering Mario is lowkey an icon of the 80s and these songs were (odds are) playing in arcades where kids where playing the Mario games, it was a fun little nod for the parents to have nostalgia with. It really worked for me personally and I loved it.

Really looking forward to this. We really need a Luigi’s Mansion movie, but I’d really love a Star Fox too.

The choice of 80's rock seems entirely spot on, from someone who enjoyed the game in the early and mid 80's.

Finally got to watch it last night! After watching the movie and watching Jeremy’s review of it, I can safely say that this is a video game adaptation done right in all the best ways possible. It’s definitely up there with Sonic 2 as my favorite video game adaptation of all time.

Me and my girl went to see it today and honestly it was fun, a blast from the past and even though she isn’t a gamer she enjoyed it a lot it comedy, action and honestly a lot of Mario references from his games and others and I believe there’s so much potential to unlock and looking forward to the next one

I saw this movie tonight with my 8 year old son and we loved it. I'm 41 going on 42 soon and I've been playing Super Mario Bros since I was five. To be honest, this movie was nearly perfect and I can totally understand why they chose 80s music in a lot of the scenes, since Mario has been around since 1981. I know it might seem out of place for younger people, but it makes complete sense to a person my age that has been playing this for the majority of their life. My son and I loved it and I really hope there are many more movies to come.

I haven't seen a movie on opening day in a long time. I saw this with my whole family today, and then we saw on social media that other members of our extended family had also gone to first day first showings. That tells you how much we love Nintendo, and it probably also says something about how much money this movie is going to make. We all had a good time!

I thought it was incredible. So much fun and it was nice to just sit back forget about the world and enjoy a genuinely fun movie. Oh and Chris Pratt was fantastic, the voice acting in this movie was phenomenal.

Just saw the movie at the theater with my son. We both loved it! I’ve played Mario since I was a kid and still do. I’ve introduced my son to it and it’s something we can play and enjoy together. The colors were vibrant and the characters were great. 😊

Just got home from watching it. It was a blast. Simple fun, simple plot, great nostalgia (I'm 45 now urgh) All round good time.

Absolutely 100% agree with you on the licensed music part. With the amount of iconic music from the Mario universe from over the years, there was absolutely no reason any of those other songs needed to be in it. I actually teared up in the theater after the initial Bower invasion scene because 30 years of my life was there right in front of me, beautiful and brought to life. I played the games as a young kid and I still play them today in my mid 30s. It just hit my heart like a ton of bricks and I cried lol. While it is definitely meant for kids and families, I feel like I was the target audience and I loved every minute of it. As for the plot and its simplicity/speed - I feel that this was more of a world building movie rather than story telling... building up a world for more to come :)

Your experience with Mario 64 is very relatable. I remember those days, ocarina of time, hey you Pikachu, pokemon stadium ... Great times on the N64, super Nintendo is my main squeeze though, it was always there. One of my first memories is getting the super Nintendo for Christmas at like 3 (at least I think I remember though it's probably just an amalgamation) I I thoroughly enjoyed it as a lifelong fan of Mario and I got to watch it with my 5-year-old for his first theater experience, It was legit magical. That said so many times throughout the film I just felt let down by the lack of effort in writing and editing. But if you have any interest tomorrow at all, any fond of memories you are going to have the time of your life

My sentiments exactly. It's far from any notable cinematic achievement, but perfectly a fine movie to take the kids out for a matinee. As someone in his early 40s having grown up playing the game on NES, it was a good trip down the memory lane. Got a little goosebump when I heard parts of the Mario Kart theme song when they're picking their rides, and also a little melody from Super Mario 3 when Mario became the Tanooki Mario.

I personally loved this film! I’m honestly overwhelmed, there were so many parts I loved, especially as a Mario fan! 10/10

The one video game movie I really wanted to see, even more than LoZ, is Star Fox. The potential for that movie is through the roof.

I think that it was the absolutely most perfect Mario Movie they could ever make. The story was rudimentary but it had to be for an origin story. It had nostalgia great scenery and world building every character had moments to shine.

Mario's story is bare bones, I argue that isn't a con but a feature. Considering how complex and intricate his world continues to be, a simplistic protagonist and storyline allow further opportunity to explore the creativity behind The Mushroom Kingdom and other settings.

Honestly the music sold me on the movie. It got me emotionally invested. This were the soundtrack of my life when i was introduced to or as i grew up with Mario. So it made that connection with me for sure

Somewhat unrelated, but I’m excited to see Chris’ reaction to RENFIELD once that comes out. I was at the world premiere at Overlook Film Festival, and it’s a wild ride! And since I know Chris loves Nicolas Cage, he’ll probably be VERY happy with what HE does in this!

I feel like I have some pretty good ideas for a Zelda trilogy. I practically figured out all three movies in my head. It incorporates concepts from several of the older games, and it uses the time-travel aspect from Ocarina of Time to lead to a couple of really interesting twists, I think. Sadly, it will never get made.

I agree with your point on the 80s music. I feel like every animated movie has to have those jukebox moments to keep the adults engaged. I didn't mind it so much here because they are used sparingly. It's just I think I've heard these exact tracks in other animated films. At this point they sound like placeholders. I'm surprised "Bad Reputation" wasn't played.

The Super Mario Bros Movie is amazing!!! 20 years of playing Mario Games in Nintendo generations systems! This movie is obviously a love letter to the fans of the Mario Bros franchise and it did not disappoint! The movie is perfect as well for families who wants to have a good time and have a laugh as the comedy was great! The animation is great as well as Illumination really delivered with great action sequence! The plot is obviously Bowser causing terror as the king of the koopas wants Peach to marry him and cause havoc. The character development is amazing as Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach, and Donkey Kong comes out very strong at the end of the movie, especially Mario, Luigi, and Donkey Kong! The soundtrack tho!!!! OH MY GOD!!! The classical music of hearing Mario Bros Games in the big screens brings tears of happiness and open ears hearing and seeing it at the big screen! The Easter Eggs were a joy too as there are lots but definitely worth figuring and finding out them! Overall, this movie is a great time to watch if you are a Mario fan, Nintendo fan, or just having a good time watching it with your friends and family! DO NOT LISTEN TO BAD REVIEWS or Rotton Tomatoes critics. Everyone will have a great time watching The Super Mario Bros Movie! Spoiler!!!!!!! Especially That Easter EGG at the end of the credits!!!

I watched this today with my wife and 2 sons. They loved it, I had a smile and laughed a lot in the movie. If you take this movie to be reminded of your childhood and make new memories with your own kids, it's awesome.

My brother and I took our sons this morning to see it…. I grew up with all the Mario games and love them sincerely. I thought the movie was just fine, nothing egregious or outwardly annoying.. but our boys loved it. They were so excited and sang the Mario songs the whole ride home. I’m happy that they get to now go and play the old games that we loved

I liked the song choices because they didn't pick some terrible charts music from today but good songs. The Kill Bill one was too much though. It felt so weird to have it so early in the movie

Not a single boring scene after Mario was transported to the kingdom Tbh it makes perfect sense that there wasn’t much storyline considering he was barely in the Mushroom Kingdom for a DAY He barely had any time to know anyone there, deep meaningful connections would be off-putting as hell

They incorporated 80's rock because Super Mario was created in the early 80's. So many of the 1st Mario fans likely listened to a lot of 80's rock, especially over arcade loud speakers while they pumped quarters into the Super Mario cabinet. Or on their Walkman casset player while waiting their turn to play next. Chris being in his 30's means he actually grew up in the 90's when arcades phased out. So he couldn't relate. The OG 45+yo Mario fans know what's up tho!😂😂😂

Saw it mid week with the kids. Like you say, great family movie like Sonic and over all enjoyable. We’ve listened Bowser singing about Peach countless times now in the car haha. Would watch again and look forward to another movie.
