Despite the blackness of his worldview, Schopenhauer also comes with solutions to make life endurable on this terrible, desolate rock infested by continual suffering. In his work Aphorismen zur Lebensweisheit (in English: Aphorisms on the Wisdom of Life), he presents his ideas on how we can live our lives in such a way that we prevent misery as much as possible.
This video (The Surest Way out of Misery | Arthur Schopenhauer) explores his view on the wrong ways of living our lives and their consequences, but also on the surest path to a not so miserable and, God forbid, possibly even enjoyable existence.

It would all depend on your state of mind on any particular day at any particular moment, in any case, if you are lonely get at least a pet, preferably a pet that will wake you up (e.i. rooster) and be there when you get home, if you are ok with the freedom to do whatever you want then let it be.

I don't believe it is possible to chase after happiness. A person can chase after things that bring them pleasure but I believe happiness is the result a person gets from doing the right thing. Or what is right for that person. I use to think that pleasure was the same thing as happiness but it's not. Took me a lot of years to finally figure that out.

Gaining pleasure and avoiding pain are two sides of the same coin. This is NOT the truth. I am sure Schopenhauer did not teach this (it’s a misunderstanding of his teachings). Trying to avoid pain in prison is like avoiding what’s in front of us. A prison is full of pain, that is the reality of prison! Trying to avoid pain still makes you an ignorant pleasure seeker! Accept the painful nature of this world, don’t expect this world to satisfy you or make you happy. Instead understand the nature of this world- a prison cannot make you happy- nor can I avoid the pain in this world- it is to be expected. So expecting pain and the realities of prison, I give up my expectations and desires and attachments to the things of this world and become free. And in that freedom is leaving the prison- which is our salvation/happiness.

"In the eyes of the closed minded, excess is success. When people to choose to be very materialistic, it's because they're trying to fill a void which no amount of monetary possessions can fill." Arthur Schopenhauer's got legendary and hard hitting quotes. And one which resonated with me drastically is "Whoever violated trust once, loses it forever". Upon hearing that, my heart sank to immeasurable depths, initially. But then came the bittersweet enlightenment. It encouraged clearer thoughts about not trying chasing or even reach someone who doesn't want to be, especially by me. When it feels as though someone has an endless impassable firewall up against you, there is absolutely ZERO chance of anything positive coming from it.

Try to get to the next day, hour, minute or however short you can for those little successes to start slowly adding up. Hope in time this helps you... She is gone and she isnt coming back. You and her will never be again. If you did get back together, it would never be the same and hurt just as much or worse when it didnt work out yet again. There was/is alot of blind ambition in my family that I had taken after, resulting in constant discontentment, though reasonably productive as a trade-off. I wanted to break away from that (while keeping the productive part), and the philosophies of some German thinkers like Arthur and 'ol Freddie definitely assisted in this journey. The ego says: Do amazing and difficult things, then people will admire you. So people make their lives unnecessarily difficult. If someone asks at a party what someone does in the summer, and one person replies that they are flying to the other end of the earth to climb a famous mountain, and another says that they will stay home, tend their vegetable garden and read. Who will get more attention? You have to be content with a life of obscurity as well as a life of simple pleasures. Then you will be free.

He is absolutely right. The Buddha taught the exact same thing. The first and second noble truths are: All life (in this world) is suffering which originates in desire/attachment. You can call Schopenhauer pessimistic or whatever but you just have to admit to yourself that he is speaking the truth just like all true spiritual teachings. This world is a prison/hell and anyone who denies it is delusional. The first step to get out of this hell is to admit that it is hell! We cannot fake it and pretend like hell is a heaven, we would be lying to ourselves. Gaining pleasure and avoiding pain are two sides of the same coin. I am sure Schopenhauer did not teach us to just stop seeking pleasure and instead try to avoid pain as the author of this video says (it’s a misunderstanding of his teachings).

Another excellent & insightful video from this wonderful channel! I think that Schopenhauer is very unabashedly honest in his philosophy, which makes him very relatable & endearing. “True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.” - Seneca

Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche are my favorite philosophers Nietzsche: He (or she) who has a _why_ to live for, can bear almost any _how_ . Such an excellent and beautiful video which I completely agree with. This is why I decided to go all in the Finance world to pursue financial freedom so that I can actually focus and keep doing the things that make me happy. Having a physical great shape and a good state of mind is priceless in today's world and I'll do almost anything to protect it and keep it that way. It's just a shame that you have other people around you who are constantly trying to bring you down, or who have hidden agendas, or who try to control and manipulate you, or try to bait you, or make you angry etc. etc. Even though I suffer fools gladly, it gets annoying at times. Also, I can't stand other people's insecurities and expectations. I live up to my own standard and expectations and are mainly concerned with playing MY game, not anyone else's game. And although I could really care less about materialistic objects, as I'm more concerned with my state of mind - I definitely would much rather be rich than poor at the end of the day. You have to do something, either way, it's no escaping it, so it's better to go all out on your potential, whatever it is.
