In America, the police are a $100B annual business. Modern policing can be seen in the stream of viral police body camera footage that lands the Internet. Look at the top right corner of those videos and 10/10 times it will say Axon, the one company that has made this revolution possible.
In business theory, some say that companies are not about flawless execution or perfect prediction. They suggest that the most important ingredient to success is picking the right space. You tread water, develop expertise, and even make mistakes - but once the market moves in your direction, you can snowball that momentum into billions of dollars. In the 2000s, Axon was a struggling startup. Then in the 2010s, tailwinds propelled Axon, who had been building wearable cameras and software, into prosperity. Now in the 2020s, the company is a powerhouse where every single interaction with law enforcement every day is recorded with an Axon body-cam and stored in Axon’s cloud platform.
In this episode, we’ll cover the three eras of Axon and how this company in two decades transformed from a directionless startup into a hardware and software essential for revolutionizing law enforcement around the world.

I think a lot of that, though, is a misunderstanding of employment in the tech in industry. I have worked in tech my entire life and a very common thing is outsourcing or contracting out of tasks. For example, Netflix only has a couple hundred employees but they have tasks that require thousands. So recruit your top talent in-house and everything else can be contracted out to a third-party Netflix core business back in the day was DVD shipping. How do you ship so many DVDs? Well you don’t you have some large company that sends mail do it for you all you do is make the deals and arrangements necessary to have licensing for said DVDs. Nowadays, it’s the same thing. Do you want to make a movie well, get some other production company to do it for you and slap your name on it

I want to point out, tasers are pretty innovative themselves. The devices are set to pulse at a frequency that causes neuro-muscular interference, meaning the stopping power does not come from the pain but the fact the target literally can not move, regardless of state of mind, physical fitness or drug usage. That really sets them apart from generic electroshock devices, although they do require the two prong system.
@Pokerface303

Why do some people not get affected by tasers? Or is it just that both prongs didn't connect properly?
@youwilldied
@youwilldied 11 ай бұрын
Neuromuscular incapacitation is caused by the distance between the two probes, the further the probes the better, if one or both do not strike the person it will not work as a full circuit is required

@aljon5947 yes they can, but tasers are used as a in-between as far as risk vs reward, sure they can us OC but that person can most likely still fight, sure they can go hands on but does that person have a weapon such as a knife or a bat, or they can use a taser but is that person able to be tased? Are they wearing heavy clothing that the probes won't penatrate? Are they on a drugs that affect their nervous system? It's all questions you gotta ask
@vadkram463
@vadkram463 10 ай бұрын
@@Pokerface303sometimes heavy drug or alcohol use can simply block the brain signals or something of that sort to not be affected by the taser. On another note, they teach to "split the belt line" as in to get a probe above and below the belt for max spread and effectiveness. The taser are also programmed to automatically know which prong "A or B" is furthest away. For example, if you have an X2 or taser with 2+ shots: youre on top of someone whose still thrashing about and you need to tase them. If you shoot it that close, the prongs stay next to each other and dont get a good shock. In such case, you shoot both cartridges, one shot on the torso, the other in the calf. The taser will send the shock impulse berween probe A on the torso, and probe B on the calf. Getting a full shock.

I like that the cartridges are purchased separately. In my agency, the officers who carry tasers have to qualify yearly which means shooting the taser at a dummy. So it’s not like Axon has to wait for the taser to be used in a live scenario for a cartridge to be repurchased.

@flashbaq23

In inner cities those weapons would have a market but legislation disallows us to own anything. Here in NYC any stun gun , pepper spray or pocket knife could land you in jail. While the criminals run amuck with real firearms funneled from the south. Our line of self defense from a robbery or assault is… compliance and luck. Call the NYPD later also they can take your report and never follow up… assuming you weren’t killed in the commission of said crime. It’s comical😅

@@flashbaq23 Yea, simmilar here in the UK. Guns are effectively banned, but so is any other option of self defence with it. It's either all cowboy (which in that point, why have a tazer or pepper spray), or all banned (which you can't even use one without getting prosecuted). Police is the only real market for something like a tazer. Body cams are great though. Police need them, and so do regular old security guards when some drunk is causing trouble.

@@AnaheimAngels1234 idk man, my agency (big, 2k BWCs deployed + entire fleet) is very happy with Watchguard. "In western Europe (...) you see mass surveillance everywhere you go." Meanwhile in Germany the privacy law is so deap inbetted into the culture and law, that filming in public can be a crime and even Google Street view is not widely available, because privat citizens could sue Google, for not pixeling everything properly. As a rule of thumb. In Germany, filming a person, or a persons belongings, including for instance his car or his home, the person has to give you consent to film or to take a picture. There are exeptions, but I wouldnt count on them, if you havent done proper research first. The government also has to obey these rules, meaning public cameras or police body cams would be highly illigal. So how does the German police holds itself accountable? Easy, they never act alone. There are always at least 2 police officers together on any given time. Most of the time them being three people, one being an apprentice, that drives along for at least 3 years, until him being promoted to a proper police officer. Also undervover cops are always at least 2 people. This does multiple things. Fist, they can hold each other accountable. Each day you drive with a diverent colleague, so there is no corrupt collusion between cops. Secound, the cops are safer, because for instance in a traffic stop, one officer approaches the car from each side, the drivers side officer doing the talking and the checking of the papers, and the passenger side officer looking to the window and keeping his partner safe. This tactic is what you will always see with German police. Multiple police officer, never one alone, one does the talking, the others look out for potential threats. Looking at the numbers you see, that the system works. In the year 2021, German police killed 8 people, in the ENTRIE COUNTRY. 8! In 2022 it was 11. And in 2020 15. A police officer firing his gun makes national news here, thats how rare it is! Compare to the 1097 people killed by police in the USA last year. One factor on this topic might be the gun laws in Germany. They are way more strict. A person can posess guns for sporting purposes or for a collection, but wearing a gun in public is highly illigal. Pretty much no civilian in Germany carries any type of weapon, thats why the police officers dont have to fear for their lifes simply becuase they check an ID or something. Secound factor is probably that the war on drugs in way different here. A addict or a consumer is very often not seen as a criminal, but a medical patient, that has to be treated. The criminal people that get locked up are often dealer or smugglers. This way, not every pothead gets send to prison. Very often they just take your weed and call it a day. All in all, the Police is seen very positivly here in Germany. Most people have the opinion, that the police is a friend and a helper that you can rely on. You never have to be afrait that the police will kill you or write you down for a crime that you have not comitted. Even though, arguably Germany has some very police unfriendly laws, for instance running from the police is not illigal in Germany. To drive this home, there are actually some music artists in Germany that have a song about how great the police is. I get that this sounds probably silly for a American, but its real. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hrSaepVjrMjTZok.html

I skipped 5 minutes to actually get into the video and realized this is about Axon, who really made the worst audio cameras that I can even think of aside from the PXL2000. I don't want to know anything more about what that company makes because it reminds me of FLIR, who buy up other companies to continue to sell outdated stuff at a premium price.

The reason why you won’t find a taser at a German police officer
@Da_maul

While this was an informative video, I feel like at some points you presented a biased version of events and the language that you used carried certain assumptions which misrepresent reality. Namely any time you mentioned "police brutality". You only presented one half of the story as if it was the unequivocal "correct" perspective. I watch this channel for informative video essays, not moral browbeating, and the script veered that direction several times. You also failed to mention arguably the most important function of body cameras, which is to protect police officers/agencies from fraudulent claims of brutality/misbehavior. Before claims of "he his me for no reason" or "he was unarmed" would have to be fought in court for a lengthy period of time, wheras now with the ubiquity of body cameras, those claims are more easily disproven, and save court resource, as well as (largely) prevent manufactured media outrage about specific events (like in the case of George Floyd, for instance)

From marriam webster "Archaic: of, relating to, or characteristic of an earlier or more primitive time" Just because American laws are new or have been recently revised doesn't preclude them from being considered archaic. @@ChuCannon that's fair enough, however even then a lot of laws and court judgement disliked in the modern era would look alien to earlier eras of american lawmaking In the video when MBA mentions archaic laws he puts up a cartoon of "we the corporations"; as an exemple citizen united as a ruling came in 2010 and would not be self-evident to Americans of 200 years ago, who had different ideas of what corporations were

Axon should work on removing qualified immunity.

Axon doeosn't have that power, and in some states where it has been removed, crime rates skyrocketed after Law Enforcement start leaving their agencies in mass amounts, such as in Colorado where Officers refuse to work without qualified immunity as the basis of qualified immunity allows law enforcement to not get sued for stupid shit like shooting the shit out of a suspect wwho had a weapon.
@THEJPR

@daniellamorten6230 If they don't want to work with a higher set of accountable, then they don't deserve to be cops. Qualified immunity was a good idea at its inception, but is now abused. If you or I committed a crime and claimed we didn't know it was illegal, that wouldn't stand in court. Yet the people tasked with knowing the law and faithfully executing the constitution can violate those rights and day "oopsies, I didn't know I could throw them to the ground, break a rib, and keep them in county for 3 days over recording on a public walkway."
