One thing so many seem to miss is when Kyle is talking to Sarah about the picture of her that John gave him. He makes the comment about her looking sad and wondering what she was thinking about, when in reality, the picture was taken while she was thinking about him and his death 🥺 Just to clarify, I'm saying most people overlook ONE SENTENCE Kyle says when discussing the picture. He says she looked a little sad and always wondered what she was thinking. She was thinking about him being dead. Of course everyone understands the picture taken at the end was the one given to Kyle by John. I'm simply referring to the statement about wondering what she was thinking about to make her look so sad.

First Kyle said he's from a possible future. Second, there are not two Kyles at any point. Kyle is born. He grows up. He goes to the past and dies in the past. Then years later, Kyle is born. His personal timeline is linear even though he dies years before he's born.

There would only be a paradox if he somehow prevented his own birth like Marty McFly "saving" his Dad from meeting his Mom. I LOVE THE MOVIE BUT I'VE ALWAYS HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE FACT THAT IF WE CONTINUE ON SARAH CONNORS TIMELINE AND NOBODY COMES BACK FROM THE FUTURE BECAUSE THAT TIMELINE WOULD CONTINUE ON UNTIL IT GETS TO THE POINT WHERE IT'S 2029 AND ALL OF THIS DESTRUCTION HAPPENS YET THERE IS A JOHN CONNOR ALIVE AT THAT POINT IN TIME 2029 IN ORDER TO SEND BACK SOMEONE TO TRY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING OR TO PREVENT THE TERMINATOR FROM KILLING HER!! BUT HOW DOES THAT ORIGINAL JOHN CONNOR COME INTO EXISTENCE IF NO ONE HAD GONE BACK IN TIME YET?? SO KYLE HADN'T GONE BACK TO IMPREGNATE HER BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST TIME THAT KYLE WAS SENT BACK!!! IT'S AN INTERESTING THING TO THINK ABOUT!!
@BaldusCattus
@BaldusCattus Жыл бұрын
@@bernardsalvatore1929 You're thinking about only a single timeline, but that's not how stories like this work. When the T800 and Reese travel back, a new timeline branches from their point of arrival and the rest of the movie progresses down the new timeline, leaving the original intact. Kind of how Doc Brown explained it to Marty in BTTF (tho time travel in those movies is a hot mess 😂)

Given all of the Terminator movies that have been made, with all sorts of twists of timelines to enable Arnold to reprise his role, it's a sin that Michael Biehn was never brought back to portray Kyle Reese. How about a timeline in which Sarah and Kyle manage to escape and stay off the grid? They go off to live somewhere the Terminator will never find them and live for years growing old together and raising John.

@@dongilleo9743 sarah and kyle both survived im genysis, too bad they were replaced with the worst possible actors for those roles. when you look at both actors that play kyle, the replacement isn't believable at all. micheal made you believe he came from a very harsh reality, you got none of that with jai or whatever his name is. he didn't feel like a character that went through that hell like micheal did at all. i feel like it could have been a pretty good movie had they gotten suitable actors to play kyle and sarah, i feel like they literally couldn't have chosen worse actors for those roles if they tried.

Giving the picture to Kyle wasn't wierd. Even if John Connor didn't already know Kyle was his father Kyle still needed the photo so he knew what she looked like. Otherwise he might not have gotten to the correct Sarah Connor on time to save her. Remember Sarah makes a recording at the end of the movie for her unborn son. In the recording she says Kyle Reese is John's father.

T2 is a toned down and more run of the mill as far as the action scenes go. The effects at the time put it above other similar movies by a long mile, coupled by great acting performances for all the main characters. But this movie was far more gritty, and tons of suspense, and as seen in this react video, not knowing what was going on during the first leg of the movie actually draws you in and makes you want to know whats coming all that more. Overall, a better movie despite some of the bad effects, although the purely action scenes like the chases, fights, and gunplay were all well done.

According to me only the first one makes sense. As Kyle said it was him and the T 800. When Cameron made this movie he didn't think about another movie. T2 is a good movie but it doesn't make sense. When Sarah destroyed the cyborg humanity was the winner. Sending the T 800 to kill Sarah was a desperated move from Skynet. A desperated move that failed when Sarah destroyed this thing. She was prégnant and she had become a new "woman''. The woman who would educate John "messiah" Connor. The first Terminator didn't need a sequel like T2. It deserved a sequel about the war against machine. A dark movie as horrofic and violent as the first one. But Cameron wanted to hit the box-office after the flop of Abyss and Schwarzenegger had become Schwarzmoneygger. The second movie opened the gates of hell for this saga.

There isn't necessarily a time paradox, as long as it happens within a very specific type of time travel, called a stable closed loop. it is possible to have two events be both the cause and the consequence of each other as long as they are unchanging and always existed no matter how you travel across time. This also means that the whole timeline of the world is already written and settled, the universe is fully deterministic and you cannot change the past nor the future, at all. This is the only way time travel makes sense in the franchise with the event depicted in T1, which is unfortunate because the message in both T1 and T2 is all about changing fate. This is also why I both hate T3 for going against the message of its predecessors, and also can't be mad at its existence, because it stays logically consistent with how time travel works in this setting. Makes you wonder though why Skynet is even trying in the first place...

When John gives Reese the photo in the future he knows Reese is is father from Sarah's recorded message. That's why he gives her the photo. That's why he sends Reese. Reese just never understands that his love for John isn't from his strength as a leader as much as it is the fact that John would have always been Reese's flesh and blood. A subconscious connection that possibly even transcended time to the mother of his child. Feeling a connection to that photo because she was literally his destiny and perhaps had gone back thousands of times in a temporal loop because even after Reese dies in 1984 he will be destined to see her again and again...and again. If time travel were real I'd think it makes perfect sense that deep down Reese felt a connection to the photo. Her sadness in it was literally because of him. The connection was there even if he couldn't understand it.

Yes. The Terminator's eye brows did get burned 🔥 off in the explosion prior to his punching 👊 through the windshield. I think the makeup department did a fabulous 👌 job here and the script in making that decision. With no eye brows, his cranial looks more protruded. Like he's not quite human. Like he's an unstoppable Frankenstein monster. Exactly the image you want to portray in this film to make him scarier! -OG

Fun fact: James Cameron wrote and directed "The Terminator". He was a truck driver when he saw "Star Wars", and decided to quit his job and pursue movie-making. I don't know how "The Terminator" was financed or distributed, but Cameron did not bother to get the public filming permits that usually are necessary. That is why a majority of the movie takes place at night. They would film scenes in public places in the middle of the night, and then get away as quickly as possible.

Yeah, that confused me a bit, to be honest. Sarah and Kyle were about 7 seconds into making out and you guys were still like, "MAYBE we were wrong about that being her son." haha As for Kyle's future now that he died, nothing changed. Just because someone dies after going back in time doesn't mean they're never going to be born. Something like that would only happen if he killed himself in the past (which is where you get into weird time stuff). Kyle Reese was born around 2003 (about 19 years from when this film takes place (1984)) and then he went back in time to 1984 where he died. So after this film he will be born again, just as he always was, in 2003 and if things happened as they happened before would travel back in time in 2029. Getting into the whole idea of how John Connor was born in the first place if it required Kyle Reese going back in time is where you start to run into weird time stuff. My guess is that things went a bit different before where he either had a different father (and wasn't the same exact kid) or there was another reason Kyle Reese was sent back and just happened to fall for Sarah and impregnate her with John. That would then be a different timeline in which John would become a hero which would cause the machines to send someone back to kill Sarah. I don't know if that was ever actually explained. And I'm sure it's been said a dozen times by now but Terminator 2 is the next step you HAVE to take. Much bigger budget and in many of our opinions and even better movie (which is rare for sequels). A lot of people have big opinions on any Terminator movie after that and I'm sure there will be plenty that tell you not to bother with the rest. I'm usually from the camp of "Make up your own mind about the movie". Plus, I know you guys weren't 100% impressed with the effects of this movie but also keep in mind this was about 40 years ago that they were making this. That's a long time when it comes to special effects in movies. They still weren't doing a ton with computers to create special effects so a lot of things were still practical. Also, Victoria's reaction to the terminator taking his eye out is the type of reaction I'd picture if I showed up for a blind date with someone. Probably why I don't do them. :P

Well if there are multiple Sarah’s, and one of the people who time traveled doesn’t want to kill her (while one does), isn’t there a live possibility after 2 Sarah’s have been killed, that our protagonist Sarah has a unique quality about her that would result in her being exempt from their desire to kill? Clearly she did have a unique quality that was integral to the plot (being the matriarch of the resistance), so is it really that far of a stretch to ask while watching something for the first time, “do both time travelers want to kill her”? Just some food for thought :) hope you can regain your brain cells today. KZfaq reaction videos to action movies might not be the best place to look for deeply intelligent perspectives. The point of the “Arnold terminator” is to be an infiltration unit. to blend in with humans and kill them when they let their guard down. I would give anything to watch this movie for the first time again. There are so many points that don't make sense until it gets explained (often seconds later). There's these two guys looking for the same person. One starts killing Sarah Connors methodically, the other seems to know her and just stalks her. Then one of these guys is gunned down and he gets up again, followed by a POV shot of a machine. Later, even though The Terminator doesn't feel pain, he limps after getting run over by the truck. After his flesh is burned off, you see his left heel is damaged. And then there's the infinite time loop. John Connor couldn't have been born if Skynet didn't send back a Terminator, because there would've been no reason to send Kyle Reese back. There's a deleted scene that showed that the place where Sarah terminates the Terminator was Cyberdyne Systems. It's a beautifully written movie, expertly executed. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a distant second story wise for me, because it screws with the infinite time loop, though the ending is left ambiguous, there's still a definite suggestion that the future has been changed. That puts us in Back to the Future time travel theory where you can change the course of events. The Terminator didn't have that. The events are inevitable. Whatever you do is what has always been done. Which is the only thing that makes sense. Else, who was John's father the first time? In The Terminator there is no first time. In Terminator 2: Judgment Day there must have been.

Maybe you can help without mentioning Sarah Connor. These early Terminator movies are iconic for my son; he's 40 years old. He thinks the answer to my question, nature of the relationship between the two, is unknowable because of time travel, and that's how the lore intends it. Reese is John Connor's father. John always knew because his mother tipped him off. In other words, John always knew Reese would be his father, despite Reese being younger than him in the future they lived. Reese didn't know, John didn't tell him so he wouldn't accidentally screw it up by giving away that secret. John only knew that he had to send him back or else he, and the resistance, would never exist and humanity would die to the machines. There's a subtle tip-off or two when Reese was telling Sarah about him hanging out with John and how John gave Reese her picture (in the future time). After watching T1 a few times, already knowing the plot, it's easier to pick up on those bits.

The reason the terminator looks more than a little 'uncanny' during the scenes where he performs repairs/surgery on himself and replies to the landlord is that they used an animatronic head. The movie being made in 1985 just means that animatronics weren't advanced enough yet too look or behave realistic enough to rival what can be seen in later movies like Jurassic Park. This movie also had a pretty small budget of $6.5 million, so they couldn't spend a lot of money on the practical effects. Your question about why the terminator has blood and tendons and such is also answered in the scene with the landlord, as you can see flies starting to gather on his rather pallid face, as well as hear the landlord mention how his apartment is starting to smell. The organic tissue is dying from the physical trauma he's received, blood loss from getting shot multiple times, burns and such. The point of the terminator is to blend in, so the organic tissue needs blood in order to stay healthy rather than looking and smelling like it's dead and rotting.

Reese hadn't been born yet as of 1984, so his future self getting killed in '84 didn't affect his future existence since he never interacted with anyone other than Sarah. He was still born when and wherever he was born (probably some time in late 90s or early 2000s).

Delightful how Hannah and Victoria's different expressions complement one another for a wonderful movie reaction. In 2029 John Connor will be 44 when he sends Reese back. John is maybe 14 or so years older than his father Reese. As John's dad told mom, Sarah, one possible future. Ladies provided the best reaction to the romance scene.

Kyle Reese is NOT the leader of the resistance named John Conner. There were friends in the future and John sent Kyle back to save John's mother. Probably didn't know his friend was his father.

The discussion (confusion) about going back in time here reminds me of Brian Lumley's novel "Necroscope". The title character can see people's "life-lines" as a sort of red line running from their birth to the future. The line ends when the person dies. He is confused by the main villain, whose life, as he psychically envisions it, is not a straight line, but curves back at one point and curves forward again, like a loop-de-loop in a rollercoaster. (Then it ends.) At the end of the novel the villain is sent back in time, and ironically his past self kills him before he can explain.

@@RuntotheMovies Well, it is a horror novel, and certain scenes proved a bit much for me. I just recalled the "life-line" bit as an interesting way to describe time travel.

Why would you girls think Sarah Connor would make love to her own son? Kyle Reese was sent by John Connor to protect Sarah so that he would be born. You girls are hilarious 😂. Fun reaction vid

Cyberdyne systems model 101. Commonly known as the T-800 model terminator. An upgrade of the original T-600's, designed for superior infiltration. The T-800's main upgrade is the presence of a suit of human skin, capable of simulating natural human responses such as sweating, bad breath, and the like. The exceptions being there's no blood vessels, ergo, the thing can't bleed. When in combat, the T800 drops the facade and doesn't bother with avoiding damage, simply allowing whatever hits it to decimate the skin suit while continuing to fight. The endoskeleton is the hard part.

Most people will say skip the others after T2. That would be a mistake. T3 and Salvation were excellent sequels, and it wasn't until Dark Fates the James Cameron got all pissy and said only those movies he worked on (Terminator, T2 and Dark Fates) were canon. T3 gives us a good progression into John's growth as a young adult and we actually see the machines take over and Judgement Day, and Salvation we get to meet Kyle Reese as a teen, just as Sarah said in her tapes that Kyle would be younger than he when they meet.

@@jeffburnham6611 @williamjpellas0314 I agree that Terminator Salvation is a good movie. I don't want to spoil it, or any other film, for Hannah and Victoria, but I think it gives us a great multidimensional performance from Sam Worthington. In my opinion, his career best.

You shouldn't think too much about the paradox situation. In reality, every time the time move from the present, to the moment John Conner sends back his father, there will be yet another Kyle Reese in the present (1986), so eventually there will be an infinite number of Kyle Reese persons, trying to save Sarah Connor. Time travel paradox is a bitch! Btw., it looks like you're recording yourself in interlaced video. You should change your camera settings to record in progressive, e.g. 1080P vs 1080i.
