I had a man do this, and breadcrumb me for a year. Eventually I had to look at myself and realize I kept engaging in the hot and cold behavior, because deep down I was emotionally unavailable and afraid of a relationship. So an unattainable man, was safe. Glad it's over. Thanks for everything Susan!

In my case, he wasn't like this in the beginning .... he was giving me whole attention (a little too much attention may be) but later he did all of this and that was the time when he entered in another relationship. So he started bread crumbing me a lot... One time he booked a movie, I left work early for that. And he didn't show up, left me standing and waiting outside the theatre. The worst part was he never properly explained why he didn't show up that day. And then he did this twice when we were going to attend someone's house warming party. I suspected something strange and asked him , But he denied .... and I was right in the end. These people are very cruel. Leave them immediately.

I'm so sorry. This happened with my narc ex boyfriend. Our first and only Christmas together I had invited him to my family's dinner a week in advance. He agreed and we planned. And as hour by hour went by, I got more embarrassed, frantic, and angry as I got no response to my texts. Turns out he was smoking at his best friend's crib the whole time.

I used to talk a guy who would do the ghost text dance and that was such a turn off. I didn’t entertain it and moved on. I met someone new and from the beginning I made it clear that I love consistency and he met that. We’ve dating and never has there been a day I don’t hear from him. 😊

Awesome advice, Ms Susan! So true. Talk is cheap. Their words mean nothing without actions. Years ago, people kept their word - when they said they would do something, they did it. Now, it seems that all we get anymore is just empty words, empty promises. Everyone's default setting should be - "ignore what they say, watch what they do."

I just dumped a guy like this on Sunday. I told him that I wanted a man that I can depend on and that he can delete my number. He tried to gaslight me saying he had been sick and that he thought I was only looking for a friend. I didn’t answer. Then he called me last night. I didn’t answer. I am not putting up with this total f*cking nonsense.

It's all good but as long as you don't block him you are still letting him in... And for him it means you're only talking and not taking real action to eliminate him from your life... Blocking is the ultimate decision of letting go.

That totally solved my confusion. A fella who keeps popping in and out virtually but won’t set an actual date. When asked what’s going on, reassures that he really wants to see me and starts speaking of the future but work and life are so busy. You want to believe the best about folks, but when grown, supposedly mature people behave this way it is really confusing. No longer have the need to understand the reason behind that behavior. I have a variation of this - getting on very well in person and we're texting, all friendly. Then suddenly, not reading my messages, or not responding - just silent. After a few episodes of this I said 'OK, I get it, I'm out of here' - and. suddenly it's 'no, no, I didn't mean that, not at all' - but we're back to silence again within an few days .... Hard to cut and live with the silence - but I get what I have to do ..... thank you

I experienced this recently for like 10 months where someone thought they could show up whenever they wanted (both physically and digitally) but whenever i suggested a plan she would disappear or act out like she didn’t have time and she would always upload insta stories with other people. Like it’s fine if you want to see your friends just don’t tell me you are not in town. During that time I had a few hard moments and i even cried but i got fed up. She thought i would be there forever but I recently told her we needed to stop stop everything. She even had the nerve to tell me it was better if we did things her way and that she couldn’t offer consistency. Obviously she is delusional and i said goodbye.

Give it a couple of weeks max with someone new. After the repeating of being ghosted by them, BLOCK AND DELETE THEM. Saves having your time being wasted. You deserve better.

Such a great message. Thank you. I hope people realize that this kind of scenario leads to nowhere. Those who engage in it keep doing it because they get what they want. But if we start to set strong boundaries and cut people off who just play and be entertained, they will have to eventually shape up and learn that they are not entitled and that others are not pawns in their little games. My dad used to say "don't listen to what people say, watch what they do". We need a revolution in the dating world, because it is a mess out there. Best wishes to everyone.

I knew this one girl and I asked her one time to go out to dinner with me. She said, "Sorry I can't leave my cat alone because it will get lonely". Then I didn't hear from her for two months. Then suddenly she contacted me and she needed $200 to pay her rent. I told her, "Why don't you ask your cat for the money?" She said, "What?" I said, "Yeah. Two months ago you needed to keep your cat company rather than me. So go ask your cat for the money". After that I never heard from her again.

The last couple of months I’ve given her too many chances and always waited for her patiently. But I’m just really tired now both mentally and emotionally. It’s clear to me now what I have to do.

I am so grateful that I have been through all this in the dating world because during my journey of self-love and self- development I learnt to let go and not entertain this kind of toxic behaviour. I have become very good at ignoring guys who play games like that and only respond to those who mean what they say. It's all about reflecting and learning from own mistakes.

This is why I don't make promises. I also disappear from time to time due to personal issues that I'm dealing with, but whenever I come back, I don't contact people first. When they don't reach out to me, I accept it as a sign that they don't want to be involved with me anymore. It is understandable because I am a confusing person. There are people like us who are unsure of everything because we don't think we are good enough. The key not to be an ass is to only say things that you can and consistently do. Don't talk about the future with that person if you are uncertain about what you two have and when you are going to disappear again.

Amazing explanation. You really have a knack for explaining things. Bravo! Just cut off someone recently who kept contacting me every couple of months for a year after all the hot and cold behavior. Started becoming persistent with texts on a daily basis but wouldnt lock down a time to catch up . Short texts just asking random questions. Then her cruel personality came out like clockwork and I finally got fed up and told her never to contact me again. Huge lesson for me to cut these personalities out quickly. Dont waste time and energy on them. Save them for someone who truly deserves them.

I was in a lovely relationship- it was very consistent and felt very safe- the we had a disagreement and the aftermath has been this. ‘Just checking your still holding on’ you have to free yourself xxx there is no reason to why, if it hurts you it hurts you. That’s it! X

"Curiosity" I think is the operative word here. I think it's generally good advice to advise people not to CARE too much about what others think/how they behave...but how can we not be curious? I would definitely be curious if somebody had this text-ghost-text pattern with me...it happened not all that long ago, actually. But I decided before the dawn of the year, and thankfully after not too much investment...no go! With age comes wisdom, and you provided it in this video, Susan :)

Very similar experience but it was like text - make plans - ghost and later send anonymous love messages while also denying any chemistry in real life. Why is it like that?I thought maybe insecurity? But then I feel that's a narcissistic conclusion to make.

Odd, but this is a game (as you suspect). I'd imagine this person either dones't look like their profile (online) or is in a relationship. They like to flirt, see if you will bite the bait, but then cannot meet you because either they are not who they say they are or they have a relationship. That's my guess

Talking to a guy i met online, he keeps disappearing on me. We haven't met, but I think he has a wife, so I'm the side chick, so he thinks. I've stopped texting him, because I know he is married. Not texting me for 8 hours at a time? That's a huge red flag. I ain't no one's side chick, I deserve better ❤❤❤
