My girlfriend just asked for time and space, strange because she was the one doing all of the calling and texting daily, and coming over to my home.

You are very right there, Susan. Consistency… and I think it is also our responsibility to handle moments of anxiousness. We need to be able to evaluate if our anxiety is reasonable or if our minds are just getting ahead of us.

But what happens when you can easily come up with the proof? I’m not trying to be combative, I want to get better, but mentally I really don’t know how to think about it past that

An apology brings closure to both, and if it’s not too little too late, the one that was done wrong may be moved by your contrite heart and desire to reconcile.

I love this video, in fact I'd say I needed it 💓 thank you. Do you have any more advice about self-forgiveness, when faced with severe regret for breaking something up due to your own avoidance? what you said about cracking open is so beautiful. i hope that for myself amid the pain of regret

Hi Susan! I just searched for a video on KZfaq on how to love yourself. And this video popped up and the person that wrote to you, her name was Rebecca as well! What a kawinkadink huh? I cried when I heard what you said and it made so much sense. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more! Thank you!

I was dating in the 80's and "adult dating" in the 90's. The second you were smooching meant you were exclusive. Where I lived, anyways. The negotiation for monogamy means I'm not going to date any time soon. Thank you For the warning. 😊😊😊
@SusanWinter
@SusanWinter 3 күн бұрын
I don't want this to dissuade you from dating. And probably the people you would be dating (if you like to date within your age group) have the same mentality. Generally speaking. So I think you are safe because you come from a generation that understood how to have a relationship. But as a word of warning, and especially to GenZ and Millennials, don't assume anything. Always be clear on what you're looking for and the parameters of how that functions. Thanks for your commentary.

"Everything in life is sales." I love how you connected the "I statements" to selling, coming from a place of power and confidence, asserting what YOU want in life, regardless of whether the other person can give it to you or not 💕

Dr Kaidi! Yes, after being bombarded by marketers over the years, I realized we do need to SELL the benefits of whatever style of relationship we desire. We need to have a compelling reason for why we want what we want and why it will benefit our partner and the relationship. Thanks for chiming in Dr. Kaidi

Great video as always Susan. I had a hard time with this because in the beginning he said, I want this to be a relationship. I ended up getting frustrated after about a year of living together we had a disagreement and he said that I am the only woman he wants and he is not considering anyone else unless I died, then maybe. So then i knew. I wish i could have had a good conversation rather than wait for it to erupt. But we got through it.

Congratulations for finding your way to partnership Diane. Whatever you did, it worked. And I would imagine that you must have felt a sincerity in his heart or you wouldn't have stayed an entire year. I have many clients who are frustrated by a lack of 'label' for their relationship. Yet in all actions and behaviors, their partner is completely with them. It's simply helps them to feel secure.

You're not wrong. But, why not test out another method-negotiation. The assumption is that they don't want exclusivity because they're not closing the deal with you. But perhaps they have a fear, and a valid fear, based upon the last partner who was needy and controlling. In that case, they may be afraid that exclusivity will bring them back to the same horrible place they were trying to leave. That's why the negotiation is key.

Thank you very much for this. I really appreciate your wonderful commentary. It's important to frame how to have an effective conversation with our partner as we define the relationship. I know this is tricky for a lot of people, and we end up, giving all the power to our partner to decide the terms of the engagement. I think we should have the option of being able to confidently offer our preference, and highlight the benefits. (I shot this after a speaking engagement as I saw the light was coming through the room so beautifully.)
