I also actually started with the very first Monster Hunter, but I didn't get anywhere far... I think I might have beaten a Velocidrome and that's it. That's because I didn't have a PS2 of my own and I was playing on my brother's. He didn't like the game and sold it off a short while later to my dismay. Despite the short gameplay, I fell in love with the game because of its concept of wearing cool gear, swinging cool weapons at big and badass monsters, plus it's made by one of my most loved game developers. Who knows, if I got far enough to Kut-Ku and got my ass kicked, I might have come to hate the game. LOL Later on I found a group who played Portable 2nd G and bought a PSP just to play with them, and I was really lucky because these guys were so passionate and taught me all there is to know about the game. I didn't have to struggle to learn from scratch and got into the game rather efficiently.

Man, just a week away....ugh I can’t wait to jump into this! Also, I’m kinda broken up with Chameleos finally showing himself. On the one hand I’m glad, haven’t seen him in a while, on the other hand, I’m like oh no, my items are going to get stolen. Lol, either way, managed to avoid major spoilers, and yet to fight Magnamalo. Going to take my sweet time with this one.

Man, what a great way to start my sunday! Thanks for the extra episode! Since the last one, I actually took a deep dive into SuperRAD's history lessons and got reminded of my own beginnings. I started with Tri on the Wii and that game actually supported right stick weapon controls if you so wished. And I played with that for a good long while too, I just never knew it was how the originals were played. Other than that, I picked Stories back up thanks to Gaijin's suggestion. Had the game since 2019 or something but I never actually played past Lagombi. Now I'm having a blast with it, so thank you!

There's an elite hunter that once said "The first rule of Elite Hunters is if you can't evade with iFrames and cannot finished the hunt in 9 minutes you should uninstall a game" and I was like wow. He took Team Darkside too serious.

It's been a fun journey with you guys, thank you for giving us these podcasts to ease the pain of waiting, I have really enjoyed hearing about lives and getting insights of how your own personal monster hunter journeys. I am so glad someone finally told Rurikhan he can play with a controller on a tablet or phone. I have been commenting that on his videos forever. You don't need an emulator, you can play the official version with a controller!

There's so much hate around underwater combat. With a pro controler, it was hard but manageable, and it's not supposed to be your turf ! You fight the monsters on their ground, there's a strategic element to lure the monster on the ground, it was very stressful and immersive and triggered a lot of thalassophobia, it was great, great memories, I pray it returns in future games with tighter controls.

This is the best podcast in existence and I listen to while playing halo 3 before rise comes out

42:57 maybe in the older games the Guild dissects the captured monsters but in World I believe they either get released back into the wild and tracked with Scoutflies (as told by the Chief Ecologist) or they're sent to the arena!

Friday at Midnight I will be scrounging up those mushrooms in single player and getting ready. Given the new gathering system, I'm interested in how gathering quests are gonna work now.

I know where Kogath was coming from. I started on Monster Hunter Freedom (When they reintroduced the series on portable), my friends wanted me to join them in hunting so I picked it up. I started with the SnS until getting to Yian Kut-Ku.... and it really was a brick wall then. I left the SnS and picked up the GS and was finally able to take it down. I also remember having to kill Cephalos in the desert was a pain, they didn't target you then. I remember my first run-in with Khezu. I was giving DB a run and suddenly it just flew down while I was on a gathering quest (in the jungle). I fought it in that area then it flew off, me being a new hunter, I didn't think to chase it down and kill it and thought it was some random event or something since it was the only large monster that didn't have that 'spot' you. Ah good times. One great thing about this game, everyone has their own set of stories. Be they triumphs or failures or just plain funny.

This has been my favourite build up tyo a game ever. Thank you guys so much (that drumming film is called 'whiplash')

Since the villager assists are so simple in the rampage, it would be cool to have collab characters appear. Samus shooting charge shots at the monsters, yes please!

Fun fact about the new elder dragon thing: it’s been here all along. Don’t believe me? Look in the logo for Rise. See those two monsters with a bunch of protrusions from their head? Go back to the trailer and watch that thing rotate it’s ugly mug and behold the protrusions you see on the logo monster.

Another thing to consider when capturing monsters, is that they end up in the fighting pits! Would be cool to see a monster in the arena that you have already hunted. The monster could appear and already have his tail chopped off. This could give you an easier chance of claiming other materials such as claws, plates, scales etc.

As a fellow first fleet Hunter, I got it exactly the same way: pure luck. I had a second hand game store down the road I'd been in a hundred times, and one time there was a second hand copy of Monster Hunter. I'd just gotten my PS2 online, had never played an online game before and this game with a giant sword wielding guy fighting a dragon o the cover... why not? But yeah... it was the first game that really asked something from me. Up to that point I basically game hopped constantly, stopping whenever it got too hard for me. I made so many friends, had so many fun times... and my soul was sold to Monster Hunter ever since!

Gammoth is My damn favorite of the faded four! She's gorgeous!! I love Elephants and mammoths! However I'm a bit different, I really enjoy her hunt, her fight. Idk why, I'm guessing her theme song really helps.

My sensei was Rathian in the multiplayer hub of Tanzia Port. Didn't know about the extra hp. She taught me everything

I'm so hyped for MHRise that I'm tempted to call out work for all of the week after Rise is released.

Im happy Miztusune is back because that means we'll get the Bubble skill. One skill that was pretty nerfed imo in the trasition to world is Resuscitate skill because in the old games it actually gave a good chunk of attack if afflicted by a status or blight while in World/Iceborne it just gives you a bit of Evasion+a bit of Constitution I think. A good set in MHGU is pairing up the Bubble or Dragonheart skill with Resuscitate (Dragonheart already gave you an attack boost so more damage for you and Bubble also gave you Evasion +1 for more confy sets) nad theese sets were a blast because of the synergy between Resuscitate and theese two skills that inflicted you with a status after certain easily to get requirements were met. Also I miss Astalos' Repeat Offender skill, it's such a mood with weapons that can constantly attack like Dual Blades, SnS, Lance and Insect Glaive.

Usually the shops here in Taiwan gets physical copies around two days early due to logistical reasons and those shops would let customers who preordered get their games early. Of course gamers usually delay the fact they got the game early and would only stream the games on launch day so the shops would not get in trouble with Nintendo and have their distribution rights revoked. So I'm expecting to get the physical copy roughly around Wednesday or Thursday. Still buying the digital version just because it's just easier to play it on the go and I don't have to bring an additional cartridge with me when I go out.

Just yesterday I preordered rise, I am waiting for the release to buy the yearly online subscription, just to squeeze out as many hunts as possible

Yes, underwater Lance in MH3U is awesome. (This is coming from a CB main.) I've seen the MH fan wiki and -- to be blunt, it just doesn't give off the same level of "wiki polish" that you _immediately_ notice when browsing Bulbapedia (Pokemon) or the Dark Souls wiki. In my plays, I'd say it's probably 50/50 whether I will slay or capture a given monster: - I will always (ALWAYS) bring capture supplies to EVERY hunt, period. (Except elder dragons of course, but...) and ONLY set traps if a monster's ready to capture; I never set traps just to immobilize the monster for free damage, it's always with intent to capture (and in older games I'm usually running Perception -- did you know Molten Tigrex can be captured?). - In World, special arena quests (the ones you get from capturing monsters) I only ever slay the monster. (Even Dodogama. It's like the Arena Lass said -- two monsters enter the arena, only one leaves.) As for the naming of G/Master Rank, I'm mixed: I like the name "Master Rank" in direct comparison to "Low" and "High" ranks, but I also like the abbreviation of G-rank levels (G1,G2,etc.) over MR levels (MR1,MR2,etc.) On pronouncing monster names, when you analyze it it breaks down into two things: - Vowel pronunciation (mostly English vowels), e.g. "Thai-grex" versus "Tee-grex" - Lexical stress (e.g. "a la TRAY on" versus "a LAY tree on") And as much as we'd want to have canonical pronunciations, we actually just want the official pronunciation to sound "right" to our ears. Again, NOBODY who called Tigrex with a "thai" for ten years will accept "tee-grex" as the "correct" pronunciation. Rakna-Kadaki isn't my favorite of the new monsters, but did anyone else notice that when the hunter gets Webbed, its fire breath _doesn't_ break the web? That is new. My "comfort" set is probably max level Recovery Speed, because as long as you don't take hits very often, this means cutting your damage by half. (Just don't use it against frenzied monsters because the frenzy meter fills faster based on your red HP) In World, I acquired a Fortitude gem fairly early, so I'd gem Fortify in to literally EVERY armor set I put together. My Iceborne joke is that if I crafted a full Fatalis set, I'd probably cram in EVERY "comfort" / utility skill that I can. You know, things like Heat Guard, Survival Expert, Geologist... In MH4U there were several times I would *legitimately* bring Speed Gatherer to a hunt. Dah'ren Mohran? I spend literally half as much time gathering Ballista rounds as you are. Fatalis? I'll have all 9 carves with 20 seconds left to spare on the clock while you're still running around trying to find the carve spot.

In my experience there has been some toxicity but in public lobbies in world I would host a lobby and hunts and all the time there was one person that would join in and bolt to the monster and capture it without even hinting or asking. Of course I would put a message and they would usually respond the same way saying i dont have time for this next time dont host a public quest. You cant do anything about it either like luring the monster away from the traps or griefing the griefer. I kind of wish that there were options to customize settings to prevent asshats like those. I know that would be beating the inclusivity of monster hunter but having those casual players that capcom invited and concentrates on with world pretty much made me, a friend and my wife just playing together only. Hopefully capcom one day makes some kind of voting option to say if we should capture or not in a standard hunt and if its a tie then the leader gets to choose or something like that.

Things are better in the community these days... even back in 4U or Gen/X days, the MH community ON FORUMS was marked by toxicity and elitism. In the actual game, people were mostly wonderful. On Wii, Wii U or 3DS, people loved to use voice chat (where available) or text chat. With World, we saw a wave of anti-Nintendo elitism on forums, and in the game itself, no one did text or voice chat in the game. It felt very empty, even in a full lobby. I personally left and ignored the community after I put my 80 hours into World, and didn't come back until Rise was revealed. Whatever went on during Icebourne was for the better, because suddenly THE FORUMS WERE FRIENDLY. The Switch doesn't have voice chat, unfortunately, but at least the forums are finally a nice place to be.

ive been playing since MH1 on ps2 myself. remember seeing the 3e trailer with a giant greatsword and rathalos and i knew right then and there this would be my favorite franchise. MH1 was rough but i loved it

for Rise, I got digital because getting my mother to allow me to get it on day one either by getting it at a shop or via mail would not be easy (as I have autism and I generally have difficulty doing stuff most people can do easily... I also tend to overthink things way too much likely also due to the autism)

My guess about why we get infinite carts in rampage, is because ppl are going to be carting FREQUENTLY. capcom has obviously play tested this mode, and try to balance accordingly. Also going back and watching all the monsters and apex have insane moves and team up together, its going to potentially be wild

1:40:02 people actually do this lol. they dont get the same spotlight as individual quest speedruns but there is a fairly big community of full game speedrunners. the world record for beating xeno right now is 3 hours 54 minutes. the routing and stuff is really interesting, id recommend checking it out if youve got the time.
