So far my biggest gripe with Rise is using the Wishlist to track upgrading weapons that have the "Upgrade Material Types" section, and it gives that post hunt ping EVERY run for a weapon you can't upgrade. Hoping this will get patched out, and it only giving the post-hunt notification when you can actually make the upgrade. Anyone else getting annoyed by this as well? 91 hours in and still really need to start farming, but I'm still slowly working through quest completion, because must collect all the check marks. Ruri is going to hate this, but I've pretty much played only HBG in Rise so far (114 Hunts so far), I don't even have 2 hunts with any other weapons yet, and just to drive the stake in extra deep, I primarily used Gunlance and Sword and Shield in World/Iceborne with almost no Bowgun use at all. Counter Shot is soooo satisfying and bouncing between Mech and Healing Mech special ammos is interesting.

Hunting Edge has one big advantage which is you can immediately activate it after the third hit of a combo I.e instead of rolling out you hunting edge, can reposition with it and then choose another charge - sweep - lvl 3 or a drop charge if you like. It also has a 'fast' recharge time for wirebug compared to 'medium' for adamant. I prefer it, because I think the aerial positioning helps a lot in multiplayer where the monster moves around a lot more.

Ruri my man, you can impart brutal strike on some of your diablos weapons by ramping up something on the weapon tree and upgrading it into diablos. Ramp up skills can be passed down so you can give it to a weapon that normally doesn't have it.
@JPerez-ci6xu
@JPerez-ci6xu 3 жыл бұрын
The what now!? How do you do that? Thanks in advance.
@WillyV089
@WillyV089 3 жыл бұрын
@@JPerez-ci6xu no problem. So for example, I put it on my diablos charge blade. You start out by making the bone tree CB and upgrading it into a barroth CB blade. At this point, it gains brutal strike as a rampage skill. So you put brutal strike in its slot at this time, you must do it at this point. You then upgrade it into the diablos CB and brutal strike carries over as the rampage skill on that weapon. So even though the diablos CB doesn't have brutal strike normally, you're CB does. This of course applies to any rampage skill on any weapon, provided that something in it's crafting tree has that skill. This isn't something the game tells you, so unfortunately people who find out late might have to re craft a lot of their late game weapons to get a skill they might really have wanted but isn't naturally in its skill set.
@JPerez-ci6xu
@JPerez-ci6xu 3 жыл бұрын
@@WillyV089 I see. In the end is not what I had in mind. I was thinking about getting element exploit on bows that don't normally have it. But if the skill has to be carried from a previous iteration of the weapons, then I can't do that. Actually, I don't know if I see the point on such system, since the last weapon on every branch seems to have every previous weapon ramp-up skills avaliable.
@ckwi2245
@ckwi2245 3 жыл бұрын
@@JPerez-ci6xu Keep in mind you can un-upgrade weapons as well. it's the "Rollback" option on the weapons in the tree with the yellow U-Turn icon on them. I DON'T know if this game has the full stop points like World/Iceborne did though. If it works similar to World's you get the materials back and just lose the zenny... so all you lose is another 10-20min in mining upsurge lava caverns for any weapon you want to build with these methods. It's not so much a previous iteration as it has to be the same weapon item that was on the upgrade before. Also, I have no idea how it works if you have multiple copies of a weapon, i.e. if you already have the weapon with Element Exploit, but want to use it's rampage skill to go back and change into a different weapon, that is something you may have to just suck up and test once.

Little note on the hellfire skill from Magna-kitty: 1. The Hellfire-Mines work like any other status (Stuns, para etc.) they cause a knockdown after a threshold wich increases every time. I got multiple knockdowns with it within a quest by spamming it 2. You get the hellfire debuff back on your hunter as soon as the mine exploded or runs out. So yo can spam it often when your Weapon has a skill to quickly drop it.

1:39:10 Captures do give you more rewards and the same rewards in World. Capturing gives you 1 more reward than the monster normally has carves. So if you can carve the monster 3 times, you'll get 4 capture rewards. If you can carve the monster 4 times, you'll get 5 capture rewards. In Rise and fourth-generation games, captures have a different drop table and give either the same number of rewards or 1 fewer reward than the monster normally has carves.

Then needed so flame sacs for a weapon, hunted Aknosom it solo, 2 on the carves!!! Killing is also more satisfying due to never knowing when you're gonna get that final hit in. Second thing, @Rurikhan, don't worry about lance vid, I'll watch XD. I still thank you for getting me to try Lance with your Pillar of Gluttony build. About Hunting Edge. First a disclaimer: I was a Greatsword main in previous games but for Rise I just started using it again and I don't have all the switch skills yet, so my opinion might still change. I actually do use Hunting Edge a LOT. I remember in the demo I agreed with you, I just couldn't see any use for it, but now I would say that was because I was using it wrong at that point. I was using it only over long distances, while now I am mainly using it in closer range and imo that makes all the difference. If your window for attacking is too small for the usual charging or if the monster is just slightly out of range, Hunting Edge enables me to close the gap, deal very good damage and even dodge some attacks while attacking, since I am in the air and that potentially all at the same time. Honestly, after getting kind of tired of Greatsword during World, after maining it for a long time, Hunting Edge is the move that got me hooked again. To me it is like that one move that I never knew I needed but I am not sure I would want to play without it again. So there you have it, there is at least one person who uses Hunting Edge :P

My favourite parts about Rise is how flattened down the stats ad mechanics are. Armorvalues are very close to each other in those subtiers (early/mid/late LR/HR) so using lower tiers doesn't feel like wearing paper, sharpness doesn't go ham until high rank and even then sharpening doesn't fall to the wayside, gathering is important at all stages, especially for status gunning in the early stages, no slots or decos in LR armor and weapons means no feeling of having to min-max early, etc. ...

As someone who is new to lance but decided to main it I gotta say I love the charged sweep attack. It gives me more options depending on how long the monster will stay still AND it solves the problem gaijin mentioned of lance always havibg the same damage numbers. Also both I wish you could have both the spiral thrust and the silkbind counter at the same time, twin vine is a bit underwhelming. Lovely podcast!

In world and iceborne you did get more rewards from capture, you got 4 instead of your 3 carves. Don't get me wrong I like that they went back to the old tables for carves/captures. Also in rise you tend to only get 2 sometimes 3 rewards for a cap where as killing guarantees you 3 carves.

14:00 ayyy lance Lance tip: the Spiral Thrust silkbind attack CAN boost damage like anchor rage, you just have to time it like insta block (it glows blue and is +10% wpn damage) (Your guard does have to strong enough tho) Also follow that up with X to do a strong poke or press back+X for a backswipe. I rarely use the charge swipe anymore because I replaced it with the power guard thrust, you can aim that attack anywhere and has good damage plus a 360 block. I also follow up with guard advance and leaping thrust a lot. As a lance main with 115hrs and 89 lance hunts, Switch skills I use are -Spiral Thrust (insta block booster, A+ damage, evade/movement) -Dash attack (I really like the running jump thrust) -Guard (I use power guard thrust in my combos)

One thing I want to test is, back in GenU you had protective polish(sharpness didn't go down for a bit) I combined that with a high element lance and the dashing constant pokes. I STEADILY DELETED big bois like round zamtrios with this combo.

Also if you do have anchor rage, you can use it if you guard poke a large bomb, even if you're in the middle of it.

Also regarding world/IB, you have investigations with gold tier boxes that have a higher chance of rare reward parts. Hence the faster you clear an investigation the more items you get.

Thank you Rurikhan and Gaijin, someone understands my annoyance with people who only ever capture (or at least a 90% chance it will happen). Sometimes even after the blue icon appears everyone will continue to beat on the monster and then one guy will then capture. That one guy could have captured it 2 minutes earlier but no, they just had to attack it as well, then capture it out of nowhere. Even while watching this podcast I was doing a hunt and the host was spamming a message in Japanese AND English to KILL the monster, and what happens? some guy captures it.

I heard the part where they were saying they've spent over a hundred hours with the game so far. I was like, "Ha ha! They've spent over 100 hours with the game. At least I didn't spend that much time with it." Then I looked my own time played: 120 hours. Now I'm like, "Crap. Where did that time go?! How did that happen?!" My own experiences with people capturing all the time have been frustrating. Infinitely so since most of the time, I'm given eastern players when I start a quest via Join Request (and I don't know Japanese, Korean, or Simplified/Traditional Chinese). I second Gaijin's request for a "let's kill this thing" shout.

My assumption/ theory is that chameleos is adding 8Star. It does say unlocks 8 star, chameleos, apex rathalos, and several others. The several others could be all the other monsters that add up to a whole rank.

I'm really glad they talk so much about lance in this one- no one ever talks about lance. I'm not really feeling the charge sweep though, honestly. Yeah, it hits really hard but it throws off my timing often. But the biggest issue Is that as a sweep, say I'm stabbing zinogre in the face- I can't avoid hitting his beefy paws with the sweep, and losing lots of damage compared to triple poke. It worked okay on his back, but it's such a pain to try and hit weak spots with it.

About the lance charged sweep, it can be also used anytime after any shieldbash, so in my opinion it gives a lot of utility to the weapon because after dealing a considerable amout of KO damage to the head, you can chain it into charged sweep, poke, and charge sweep for juicy dps, and rince an repeat. But i avoid using it outside of a shieldbash combo because it leaves me quite vulnerable.

This coming out later than usual actually made it a great saturday morning podcast for me. Love that. I'm really glad you guys are so adamant on keeping this spoiler free because I've been doing the game in coop with a friend who doesn't have NSO and our country just went into hard lockdown again, so we've been jumping through hoop after hoop since release. We only just entered High Rank because of it. Somehow, my coop experiences keep getting hampered since Generations. It's starting to get really annoying lol Generations/GU I kept getting kicked for just playing prowler (and I micro manage them, so my build was never the issue) which prevented any enjoyable online time, World, my buddy found it funny to spam Cluster and then ditched me for PC and now a lockdown and an online fee are getting in the way. I'd laugh, because it sounds absurd.

This thing about slaying!!!! I was one of them to capture them - Maybe its the pokemon in me :). But after Gaijin video I realized what i was doing and now I am seeing it clearer - I can see the light!!! lol Thank you for that video Gaijin. It was something that changed my perspective totally. But in all honesty, I want to add this - the game series always seemed to hint to me that capturing is the best option. I was so not aware. (Now I never capture -unless requested to do so and I leave the decision to hosts).

When you got to Charge Blade, I knew what was coming. But once you get the attack pattern down, it is incredible. And yes, doing the Sawblade thing is so satisfying. Gotta charge that shield and then go for the full charged spinning axe combo. The one-liner from Buzzsaw in Running Man always comes to mind. “I love this saw! it’s a part of me, and I’m gonna make it a part of You!” And sleep is absolutely awesome on weapons like Switch Axe and Charge Blade. Because proccing the sleep gives you a guaranteed SAED or whatever is your devastating move that has a long stationary windup to land.

7.5/10 is my rating. Had alot of fun but I am quite mixed, as a veteran with hundreds of hours in each installment ever since the first. I would not put this as the best or even top 3. For me the top 3 is still - Mhgu -World -Mh4u -tri ultimate -rise (maybe here..) -freedom unite -mh1

As a long time lance user, use spiral thrust, insta-block and shield charge. It's a totally different playstyle to traditional lance but I feel like this is the best iteration of lance yet. We finally have some flashy moves and higher damage options to mix up the playstyle. Plus guard or guard up aren't really needed because of insta-block and the insane mobility we have. You can still get some pokes in here and there but now we have KO, extra mobility, adept blocking and just a way higher skill cap. The only bad thing about lance so far is the need to spam spiral thrust to speedrun (even though its insanely fun to use and pretty difficult to pull off effectively), and the fact that twin vine is a terrible wirebug move and we can't swap it out. There's some pretty insane speedruns from lancers out there that really show off the potential of the weapon and I highly recommend checking them out.

I figured it out. The huge axe hopper hit is because you donked the very top of the tetra head. I hit the big target on the head and it did over 700 damage withthe first half of my impact crater, and the other half did a bit over 300 damage. That disparity makes me think the target on its head takes a lot of damage

Thanks for kind of explaining counterstrike!!! It was one skill I was interested in but didn't quite get it so haven't tried it out yet! I read the description " Temporary increases power after being thrown off" And I'm like thrown off, thrown off of what lol? But now that I know it basically means when you get hit and sent flying, I am definitely going to have to try it out because that happens to me a lot. I like to play aggressively! I just wish that it was a level one gym in not a level 2!

I'm not gonna lie, I'm not an advocate for Long Sword, but I think that Long Sword is really fun in Rise. I like this more focused on counter approach they are going with. Those Iai counters are really fun and rewarding, I prefer that playstyle over the spirit helmbreaker spam.

I grinded for every single obtainable Insect Glaive in World and Iceborne because it was the only weapon I played in those games. I take pride in my collection and actually enjoyed using a lot of the lesser-appreciated ones, but I don’t know if I have the heart to do it again. EDIT: That being said, Insect Glaive is the best it’s ever been in Rise; it’s *so* good. I agree with Yuna that the vault does feel a little different though. EDIT 2: Disagree a bit with Gaijin on the Kinsects. I think the Kinsects are way better in this game since they have more distinct advantages. Some are fast and extend your Triple Up, some gather 2 extracts and attack with your glaive, and some auto-attack and produce dust. There’s a lot of variety and flavor, and they allow you to focus on different parts the weapon.
