As someone who has ridden a steel frame fixed gear with a disc brake for over 1.5 years in the land of disc braked stemrollers I highly recommend it. Fun, lack of maintenance and speed of a track bike with the convenience of a "normal" commuter bike.

Having recently moded a single speed bike into a tracklocross bike with a disc brake on the front I love that rotor on there, looks great. It's just logical to keep it on especially if you can see yourself fitting a brake in the future.

Same here. After I add water, food, tools and the beer I consumed the night before, weight just is what it is. You just pedal the freaking bike! Gram weenies are laughable. I used to ride with one who always had the lightest tires, weighed each one in the shop! Always had tire issues, took forever to fix them and held up rides. We warned him to get better tires, he didn't and was uninvited. PIA. High maintenance ride partners stink!!

I come from BMX. Here's what I know about weight... If it feels too light don't fucking ride it. You will break something and the next thing to break will be whichever body part hits the ground first lol. Luckily I stuck with MTBing since I quit BMX. I wouldn't mind a classic old steel roadie bike

Its not that big of a deal. You'll quickly be reminded to pedal always! Gear it just for your terrain, start out with brakes. (if you possess brains). Brakes are good for emergencies, long steep descents and the wicked technical singletrack your bike was never designed to ride! Ive got 2 XTR canti brakes on my 'Crossafix'. I don't hardly touch the brakes. My pads have lasted 5 winters!

I might just cut out that brake bridge if I was you. Its high enough up not to add much strength. I'd probably wait until I dented a rim or two while running skinny tires. You could probably fabricate a bolt on brace higher up if your worried about seat stay strength. The My 'Crossafix' is a steel Miyata and allows 40c tires. That comfort is welcome in that I sit and spin lots on a fixed gear. The extra comfort and traction allowed by tubeless 40c is really welcome! My very old Easton Aluminum Redline SSCX bike has clearance issues in the chainstays and I'm limited to a 33or 34c tire. That's my one regret on this otherwise great handling bike. I haven't wrecked any rims yet, but my aging back is pretty sore after 4 or 5 hour rides.

They don’t have a drilling for rear brakes on their newer fx tracklocross frames. They do have a bridge but supposedly can take up to a 40mm tire, I’m waiting on my rear hub, so it’s not actually put together. I tried to put my crankset on today, but the arms don’t clear the chain stays with the 103mm spindles that were recommended for the crank I have. It didn’t specify anything but 68mm didn’t mention anything about a minimum spindle length being necessary, so I assumed I would be good with such a standard track bike size BB. What is the spindle length on the bottom bracket you used? Hopefully I will get a response from poseidon tomorrow, so I can pick up one that’ll work, without having to wait.

Do you think cutting off or machining down the rear brake mount would compromise the integrity of the frame? I just finished building my posidon with 700x40c tires and the wheel sits so far back on the dropout and im not able to move it up any further because the tire starts hitting the brake mount. Let me know what you think!! Thank you!
