I had a book with a game by master Teichmann who had black pcs playing against a consulting team of 5 students. Every time players guessed the black's next move Teichmann surprised his opponents by moving his king one step up the board until he reach the enemy's king and managed to win the game in a very similar fashion. So, it is highly likely that Short knew that game and played this game from the memory.

8:00, I know he's talking to kids, but he glosses over a very important move here. Short wrecks his own queen-side pawn structure in order to avoid trading queens with black.
