Part 2 on the The Treaty of Versailles
The terms of the Treaty of Versailles can be divided into three groups:
Territorial, military, and financial & economic. Here are some of them:
TERRITORIAL
Alsace-Lorraine was returned to France.
Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria.
Lands in eastern Germany including the farmlands of Posen and the Polish corridor between Germany and East Prussia were given to Poland.
The Saar which had rich coalfields, were given to France for 15 years.
All Germany's colonies were taken and given to France and Britain as 'mandates'.
MILITARY
The German army was restricted to only 100,000 men, the navy could now only have six battleships and no submarines. And there was to be no airforce allowed.
The Rhineland was demilitarised. This meant the German army could not go to this area between France and Germany.
FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC
Germany would have to pay reparations, which would eventually be set at an enormous 132 billion gold marks.
WAR GUILT
On top of this Germany was not allowed to join the League of Nations and it had to accept responsibility for causing all the damage and loss by the war.

Negotiations for commonwealth status began in 1972 and a covenant to establish a commonwealth in political union with the United States[13] was approved in a 1975 referendum. A new government and constitution came into effect in 1978 after being approved in a 1977 referendum. The United Nations approved this arrangement pursuant to Security Council Resolution 683.

Not the single biggest. There were a lot of causes for the rise o Nazism and WWII. One of those is the 1929 economic crisis or the the political instability by the loss of the monarchy or the flawed Weimar constitution. The example that the rise of fascism in Italy set, the constant border clashes with Poland in the East, the impressions of the Russian civil war, the red terror and the resulting refugee wave.

Also the German High Command and Public wanted to avenge the humiliation of that treaty imposed upon them as they never got over that until the fall of Paris in 1940 as it was still psychologically in their minds especially Hitler personally.

Jan Winterhalter As is the case with WW2 blaming one single factor for the entire war would be a rather port historical analysis. Revanchism for the humiliation after WW1, was of course one of the biggest factors that sparked the war, but also ideological goal were pursued: "Liberation" from what Hitler saw as land controlled by the Jews and the subsequent extermination of the so called "Jewish conspirators" and the establishment of an Aryan Europe. As well as the acquisition of Lebensraum (space for settlement) in the East and fear of communist aggression, which in the end prompted the failed Operation Babarossa.
@Jan-rq8mo

Yeah but the main reason the Puplic was on hitlers side, was the treaty Because it not only humiliated the germans but also threw germany into an incredible poorness And that the French occupied the Rhineland, stole the factorys and Resources and killed over 120 civilians didnt really help the democrats

Okay, so your first videos are pretty decent although they lack your now usual narration. Starting from The assasination of Ferdinant, the next videos are all prettry good, I mostly like the episodes on WWI and WWII, I feel like they represent an important and fascinating part of our history. I Like your brief overview of WWII and I imagine that you and your team would be able to make a great serie out of WWII. I also like your video about the Blitz since it has that particularity of involving the viewer in the war, what would he do in those circumstances, the simple fact of thinking about it gives me goosepumps. Also I've noted that the voice of the narrator keeps changing, all of them are satisfying in case you were deciding who was best suited for narrating :p
@Simplehistory
@Simplehistory 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Simple History has come quite a way since 2013. That's interesting that you found the Blitz video the most immersive. Because of the nature of the Blitz bringing the war to the homefront in which civilians experienced it on their doorstep, the directness to the viewer in the video worked quite well I think. For narration, I like to have a variety of voices to suit different types of history. :)

SUMMARY OF PART ONE AND TWO The Treaty of Versailles, What Did the Big Three Want? (Video detailed summary) (part one) * World War I officially came to an end with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919.
 * 32 countries had come together in Paris in January 1919 to hold a conference which would make peace after the First World War.
 * It would be dominated by the big three:
 * David Lloyd George representing Britain;
 * Georges Clemenceau representing France;
 * Woodrow Wilson representing the USA.
 * Germany was not invited.
 * The Big Three wanted different things for Germany and disagreed on how harshly they were to be punished reflecting how their countries were treated in the war.
 * They had to negotiate with each other until there was a compromise.
 * This was difficult because Wilson was opposed to harsh punishment for Germany.
 * The USA had not been involved in the war as long as Britain and France and had not received as much damage. He wanted to prevent another world war by creating the league of nations based on his fourteen points to ensure Germany would not be destroyed and that Germany shouldn't be blamed for the war.
 * Clemenceau (france) aims were the harshest of the three -- representing the damage Germany had done to France's land and people and its threatening proximity. He wanted revenge and to punish Germany to return Alsace Lorraine to France, an independent Rhineland, no league of nations, Germany to pay huge reparations for the damage and losses caused, the disbandment of the German Army so that Germany would never be strong enough to attack France again.
 * Lloyd George (Britain) was an in-between. This reflected Britain which had little land damage, but high war losses. He wanted a punishment that would be tough enough to please those who wanted to make Germany pay, but would leave Germany strong enough to still trade land for Britain's Empire to safeguard Britain's naval supremacy.
 * When the Treaty of Versailles was ready, Germany was shown the document, but there was no negotiation, their rebuttal ignored.
 * On 28th June 1919 the Delegates met at the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles near Paris and forced two German representatives to sign it.
 ------ The Treaty of Versailles, Terms of the Treaty (Video detailed summary) (part two) * The terms of the Treaty of versailles can be divided into three groups
 * Territorial, military, financial and economic
 * Here are some of the territorial terms
 * Lorraine was returned to france
 * Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria lands in East Germany Including the farmlands of Posen and the polish corridor between East Germany and East prussia were given to poland
 * The Saar Which Had rich coal fields were given to France for 15 years
 * All Germany's colonies were taken and given to France and britain as mandates
 * Here are some of the military terms
 * The German army was restricted to only 100,000 men. The Navy could now only have six battleships and no submarines and there was to be no air force allowed
 * The Rhineland was demilitarized this meant the German army could not go to this area between France and Germany
 * For the financial and economic terms
 * Germany would have to pay reparations which would eventually be set at an enormous 132 Billion Gold marks on top of this germany was not allowed to join the league of nations and had to accept responsibility for causing all the damage and Loss by the war
 * Overall the Treaty of versailles was unpopular with Germany and its creators
 * Its terms would go on to be reversed by Germany in both secret and in the open by Hitler and help cause world war two

the video is a little fast . I appreciate the fact that the long paragraphs of world war 1 given in the textbooks which are too boring to be studied are been summarised in one short and crisp video of 1:54 but the person who is explaining about the terms of treaty of Versailles he is explaining it very fast so I recommend simple history to slow down a little bit . they are helping students worldwide and doing a great job !!

I think we can learn something from this, hardships can be overcomed and forgotten possibly, but insults are not. Germany was crushed and humiliated which is why it rose back in just 3 decades to swallow France entirely. After WW2 the USA efficiently funded for the reconstruction of the FDR, even though Germany lost more than 10% of her lands it was not humiliated and today Germany is an exemplary state.

If people need a summary of the video: The terms of the Treaty of Versailles were divided into three groups: territorial, military, and financial & economic. Some of the territorial terms were Alsace-Lorraine to be returned to France, Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria in East Germany, including the farmlands of Posen, and the polish corridor between East Germany and East Prussia was given to Poland. The Saar which had rich coal fields were given to France for 15 years and all of Germany's colonies were taken and given to France and Britain as mandates. Some of the military terms were where the German army was restricted to 100,000 men, the Navy could now only have six battleships and no submarines and there was no air force to be allowed. The Rhineland was demilitarized which meant the German army couldn't go into this area between France and Germany. For financial & economic terms, Germany would have to pay reparations which would set at an enormous 132 Billion Gold Marks, on top of this, Germany was not allowed to join the league of nations and had to accept responsibility for causing all the damage and loss by the war. Overall, this treaty was unpopular with Germany and its creators which would lead to the terms being reversed secretly by Hilter and helping cause World World II.
