but I dont think she's the reason the number got bumped, Mattson done what he said he would do and went around them i.e. calling Frank instead of one of the brothers and giving them an offer that they simply cannot refuse.

Matsson has known that throwing more money into the offer would get the deal ever since the night of Connor’s rehearsal dinner. The deal got done just because Matsson finally did what he had said he didn’t want to do: pay more money. Shiv *DOES* deserves credit for saving Gerri, Karolyn, and Tom, though

@@DelusionalNYC Shiv definitely has a hold on Matsson, she plays politics when she's out of Logans shadow and doesn't really give a shit about Matsson or Waystar, and he's fascinated by that. He tried to target her weaknesses like the marriage and Logan to build a connection to her and she wasn't impressed. I think all the siblings got him to spend more, remember he has contemplated pulling out of the deal a lot, he could just as easily have backed out.

@@Spaced92 Mattson is flattering Shiv to make her drop her guard. Nobody in their right mind would think that Shiv is anything like her father. So Mattson is straight-up lying just to butter her up.

I *love* Sarah Snook’s portrayal of Shiv! That said, Shiv was undermining her brothers in word and deed from start to finish in this episode. I don’t want to see any of the siblings win in the end (except maybe Roman) but definitely not Shiv.

​@@DelusionalNYC oh lol i mean Shiv is indeed a snake, I just love her for as flawed and ruthless as she is and root for her anyway, just like I root for every other flawed and ruthless character on this show. All I'm really hoping for is to see more exciting terrible things happen and watch Shiv be charismatic and fascinating throughout. I love watching her be scheme-y like she was in this episode! I don't expect her or any other character to actually necessarily succeed because the show is a grand tragedy every season so far. But in the short term, it's nice to see Shiv pull off a successful play and regain some ground; things have been rough for her since season 2. I missed seeing this confident and more competitive side of her, and I'm happy that she's feeling better.

Great episode! I love Sarah Snook as Shiv however I find her to be a despicable human. She demands to have equal footing but she continues to serve herself and undermine her brothers.

Nah you gotta put Tom in that group if you've been paying attention. Old guard hate him because he rises too fast, but Forbes chased him on their magazine while Kendall failed to get onto Variety or w/e he was trying, he brought ATN's profits up, Roman and Kendall admitted there was literally no good reason to fire him but thought it'd be funny to offer his neck to Shiv. Frank hasn't really done anything, no different from Karl.

1) Shiv has never been excited about having kids - she blew Tom off whenever brought it up and 2) the Roys don’t seem to believe they have to follow the same rules that common folk follow

You can drink a little bit of alcohol. They never actually show shiv drinking large amounts OR taking the cocaine, they just show it in her hand.

I don't think he's Elon Musk, there's elements of that but he's an engineer, he knows his craft in a way Kendall never did. The money is nothing to him it's all a game, I think the more they fight him the more he wants to mess with them. Logan played a different game, he hated wasting money. The only way they can beat him is if they take the fucking money, make their own fucking pile, and move Pierce's company into the space ATN is going to leave.

Not a chance. GOT was bad for 2 seasons before it ended. You could see it going downhill well before it hit rock bottom. This season has been fantastic I doubt it will be a huge flop. The ending might be hit or miss like most shows, but overall quality of the season I think will be still be critical acclaim level.

@@turkeymcduckin7909 sorry but i totally disagree. take your bias about who you like best out of the equation and look at the facts. kendall has a degree in economics and an MBA from harvard and has worked at the company for 15+ years, and also spent time overseas running things in shanghai. even logan admitted he was smart and good at business, the problem is that he lacks confidence and the killer instinct you need. "you're smart and you're good but you're not a killer." shiv has zero experience, zero background in economics or business and had never worked a day in her life at waystar until s2. so at this point she has less than a year of experience with the company. greg literally has more. roman at least has some experience but there's a reason logan saddled him with a babysitter in frank before the start of the series. he doesn't do well without direction, even in the most recent ep you can see that he is constantly looking to kendall and shiv for approval and guidance, before he was always looking to logan and gerri to tell him what to do. roman isn't stupid, but he is not a leader.

Well technically Logan was like that. He just threw money at problems and intimidated people.

It was just a normal conversation to Shiv, while to people like Lukas & Logan every conversation is an opportunity to make a move.

Nah, it just went over your head. This was her episode. SHE secured the deal, and won over her brothers. So many subtle interactions highlight her real power and influence. The fact that Tom is referred to as, “Tom of Shiboan”, which ticks him off. The fact that Matteson is clearly not getting on with Ken and Roman’s interpersonal style. They were taking themselves too seriously with a lot of his banter going over their heads; they were coming off as hostile and cold to him. Whereas Shiv’s cool and collected nature is why Matteson goes up to her.

They start talking and she makes him feel comfortable enough, that she’s pulled into a full on 1 on 1 conversation with him where he opens up (something I imagine he doesn’t do often), and tells her something confidential and vulnerable (re: Abba). And Shiv’s natural instinct to not give a fuck works here, which is why she responds truthfully about her relationship with Tom (Ken would’ve BS’ed and tried to dance).

And Matteson likes that; she’s upfront, and will tell it as it is without BS’ing him. She also tells him that a few more $ would seal the deal, that Karolina is great, and pivots to position Gerri as an asset that can help him with the Abba situation. Which is why he tells her that she likes her and that she is like Logan. It’s also why he ups the offer, and why he retains Gerri and Karolina and fires everyone; and calls her, over her brothers.
