Lennon’s final album, Double Fantasy, remains one of his most beloved works from fans and critics alike, but what caused the former Beatle to get back into the studio and record music again?
Many believe the man was on the brink of a second wind, as he had recently stopped using drugs and was friendly with Paul McCartney again, so let’s take a look at the truth about John Lennon’s last year alive.

Lennon was assassinated. Look into the police logistics report of the shooting. Eight to 10 bullets found at the crime scene from TWO distinctive trajectories. The pasty, Chapman, had a charter arm revolver, a five-shooter. If you truly give a sh!t about Lennon, you’ll look into the disturbing facts surrounding his assassination. It’s hardly a secret the FBI wanted him gone. Just another one of these “lone nut” conspiracy theories propagated by a fascist, criminal state.

I was 10 years old. That summer in 1980 I had immersed myself in The Beatles. In November Lennon releases Double Fantasy and I was so EXCITED and ecstatic that this musical genius was once again active musically…a month later Howard Cosell announces on Monday Night Football that John Lennon was shot. I was in the other room and heard it clearly. My heart sank and I cried. I’ll never get over that moment.

" There are faces I remember all my life..." The meteoric success of the Beatles left Lennon dazed and confused by 1965. That's why he wrote Help. He kept searching for inner peace throughout the next fifteen years. Therapy, drugs and retiring from the media glare assisted his growing maturity. Sadly, he was lost to a generation.

The Beatles were, are and always will be the best. Changed so much of the 60s, and an inspiration to many people who became musicians, and successful ones at that, who may not of been at all. John had a wonderful voice, could play, and could write some of the greatest tracks ever....the rest of his life was a mixed bag like the majority of us . The music will live on for ever.

John's Beatles' life was "too planned out" to pay attention to Julian? And yet somehow Paul found the time to pay attention to him.
@penfro
@penfro 3 жыл бұрын
Agree. As an enormous fan of the Beatles, I still say the aggrandizement of John Lennon is a bit stomach-turning. He was clever, but no genius. He was the world’s luckiest man to have inherited his father’s gruff-sounding voice and that he met and partnered with the consummate musician that is Paul McCartney. That he wrote a song called Beautiful Boy and referenced Sean in it was a particularly low blow to Julian. What a shit. Ironically, he had no time for his father who treated him like he treated Julian. “I’m just sittin’ here watching the world go round and round...” > Are you John? That’s because of all the money you earned on Paul McCartney songs to which you made no contribution. Imagine the money Lennon made off ‘Yesterday’, as one example of many.

@@penfro I agree John had a lot of chances including in his Will to make Julian feel loved but John wrote much better songs than sappy Paul with the Beatles. And Paul wrote Hey Jude to rub John's nose in it so Paul is no saint. Paul wrote so many bad songs , embarrassing songs. I do not like Sean .. bad music whereas Julian had a few good songs. Too bad Double Fantasy was just a boring lousy album. I will never understand why people like Abby Road or the White Album. All the other records they did were better than those.

Damn I was able to go through my entire life without feeling too sad about John, not because I didn't care but because that was litteraly 17 years before I was born...And now I'm here, as a grown ass 24yo man, watching this and feeling so freaking depressed about all this I hate that he was getting his life together and didn't want to make the same mistakes again and do better overall...Just for this to be ruined, forever. He was absent from his first son's life, wanted to be there for his second son, which ended up not even getting that chance. I can't believe someone who was around my age back then, decided to not only ruin his idol's entire life by taking it but also the lives of everyone around him and pretty much the undescribably huge community of fans he has (in a litteral sense in some cases since I read that some of them commited suicide). And in the process, still ruins the experience for future fans like me, who were born too late. He did it, he got his fame ! He's so famous he can't even be out of jail, 'cause there are people out there who hated, hate and will still hate him as long as there are Beatles fans on earth. He says 40 years later that he regrets, which at this point as sincere as it could be just sounds ridiculous. After planning such a horrible crime, I don't know what else he expected. He didn't kill a famous serial killer, he killed an musical icon. As a kid I didn't realize all of this, I just knew John got killed, didn't wanna ask about it and didn't have an internet access so I just took it as a fact and that's it. I didn't think much about musicians past their songs back then. Now, 2 decades later I get hit by nostalgia and wanna dig through stuff about my childhood band, and well...the deeper I dig into the story the worse I feel.

A lot of the legend is just that. Probably best not to take it too seriously. The whole "almost happy ending" theme is a bit of a sham imho. It was fed to us after the murder by media that slagged him off prior to it so didn't even ring true then. I wouldn't assume there was going to be a happy ending with this guy, while his wife's treatment of his first son in making him buy back his own letters to JL, post mortem, suggests she was a nastier piece of work than is commonly acknowledged these days. Putting his blood stained glasses on an album cover wasn't pretty either. It's a fascinating story but a dark one too. The media dressed it up as if it were a Disney movie rather than a bunch of real and, in some respects, quite unsavoury, people stumbling through chaotic lives as best they could, just like a lot of us do but with less publicity.

@@ladylyrichere9373 That's not true. After the divorce, it was agreed that John should visit his son whenever he wanted, and John did so once, in which he spent the day with Julian and even had a pleasant conversation with Cynthia, where the two had tea together. However, in the middle of the visit, the housekeeper at John and Yoko's house called to John to tell that Yoko was trying to kill herself because she thought John was spending too much time "near Cynthia". After that episode, John never visited his son again when he lived in England and when Cynthia called to talk about Julian, Yoko said to Cynthia that she should talk to her about that. Cynthia replied that "If John wants to know about his son, tell him to look me up because I won't deal with you." After that, Lennon spent 03 years without calling his son. Fred Seaman, John's private secretary for the past two years, said Yoko did constantly emotional blackmail to John, saying that if he loved her he would give her "proofs of love", like not seeing Julian so much, not spending money on him and saying in interviews that Julian was "an unplanned child" and so on.

Wanna know what Yoko is really like away from the cameras? Read the book by Fred Seaman. Seaman was John's personal assistant for the final 12 months of John's life. Yoko deserves every bit of the vitriol that Beatle fans pour out on her. Elliot Mintz is also an excellent source of info as he was very close to the Lennon's from 1971-1980.
@charwest9449
@charwest9449 3 жыл бұрын
Fred Seaman is an excellent source of info as his parents also worked for the Lennons for years (that's how he got his job working for them), he was very close to John, and also had John's diary to give to Julian, so be certainly knew what was in it. (Which Ono was of course desperate to suppress, since it blew her carefully crafted versions of things out of the water. ) But Elliott Mintz was employed by Ono, at first to spy on John with May Pang, and then as a publicist for her and John. It's said that since Ono and Sam Havadtoy split, Elliot Mintz has taken Sam's place, living with Ono as her husband. So he's probably still peddling his publicity PR version of events to benefit Ono.

Adam Collins, what is in Fred Seaman's book is true but what really happened to John Lennon was far, far worse than anything Fred Seaman knew. His account is the tip of the iceberg .. John Lennon went through unbearable inner pain when with Yoko Ono, far more than Fred or others have any idea. Yoko Ono is literally a satanist on a most extreme level. She firstly destroyed The Beatles, and then John Lennon. She did all she did for the dark side. This was her purpose from the beginning.

I remember reading an article, early to mid 90's, by a British journalist who was due to interview Lennon in December 1980. He went on to say that the interview was due to take place on December 9th. He was getting his tings together, packing a case, ready to take his flight to New York on the December 8th. Early on December 7th he received a phonecall from Yoko, he noted an urgency in her voice. She stated that the interview date would have to change, to which he told her everything, from his flight, to his hotel had already been booked in preparation for the interview to take place on December 9th. She told him in no uncertain terms, that if he wanted to interview John, it would HAVE to be early on December 8th, or he simply would not be able to interview him at all, as he would be leaving on a 'journey' later that day.

The last new song I heard from him was in 1975 with "Stand by me" which was a good cover version of Ben E Kings. Not that it matters by any means, but I just don't get it. I genuinely don't understand what he saw in Ono. She wasn't talented. She wasn't an, "artist," unless you consider squealing into a microphone art. I've never heard her say anything intellectual or challenging. She wasn't attractive. I simply don't understand what he saw in her. I'm glad she made him happy, but from an ignorant outsider's point of view like myself, she seemed to make him worse, and pulled him away from the things he once loved. She treated him like shit. After a song, the DJ came on and said, 'We are paying tribute to the late John Lennon who was killed tonight when a crazed wacko emptied a gun into the former Beatle.' I hit my breaks, going from 60 mph to 0. I went into shock. I sat on the side of the road for I don't know how long. I didn't want to believe what I had just heard. Emptied a gun. Emptied a gun. I’m not sure if he was really so concerned with establishing new relevance in pop music. His loyal fan base was large enough to make anything he did popular. The insecurities were because he couldn’t trust us not to sycophantically make a shit song great. To give us something good to promote as good had become a priority of importance. He was back and revitalized and reconnecting wonderfully with us with some really good songs. That was cut short and incredibly bittersweet. Double fantasy is a great lp, but it was not meant to be the last and so it’s perpetually sentimental.
