Really great summary of both shows. I still have a special place in my heart for Trigun 98 (& even Fullmetal Alchemist 2003). But fans blinded by nostalgia (tho also being rightly fearful of getting Berserk 2016'd) need to give it a chance, and also just get over the anti cg animation bias. I love 2d animation, but thanks to TMNT 2012, that really got me over any bias i had to cg tv animation nowadays (also TMNT's been on a roll since then, Rise of the TMNT was amazing, and Mutant Mayhem looks Gorgeous). I do think people should watch both Trigun animes, and also in release date order as frankly, the lack of mystery in Stampede feels like it'll retroactively ruin the mystery of the 98' Trigun, so getting to enjoy that ride before getting thrust into Stampede's remix of the plot feels like the best way to experience it IMO.

This was a really good video. You hit all of my thought I was having comparing the old Trigun to the new trigun. I will admit that I was very against the new one when it just came out but the more I watched and the story progressed the more it made sense for this anime's direction. Great video!

I feel like when Stampede is finished a lot more people will be making the FMA vs FMA Brotherhood sort of comparisons. Like, most people will agree that FMA Brotherhood is overall better.... Except in certain instances like how the original FMA handled Shou and Nina Tucker. FMA Brotherhood could have gone into as much detail covering that story beat, but why retell that story when they wanted to spend their time/budget getting to aspects of the story that had not been covered yet? I'm excited to see how they're going to introduce Millie in the second season, and how they're going to carry the show forward. I really loved the original Trigun anime, and at times I feel like the pacing on Stampede has been a bit off, but at the same time it really made the world of Trigun feel alive for me in a way that the old show did not.

Dope video! Personally I don't think I like either anime. The original had some solid comedic timing and some really awesome moments, but like you said is stacked with filler junk not worth watching. I like the new one's art direction, but in contrast to the original, the comedic timing is just bad. Like to the point I quit one episode in. Aesthetically I really do prefer the understated approach the original takes, letting the viewer ask questions and building the mystery of the setting. I remember strongly feeling the new one needed to embrace the less is more approach. As an animator, I think the original has some absolutely stunning moments you'll find in many sakuga compilations, but that said the new one is doing something really special in it's own approach. A LOT of 3d anime tends to look awful because they don't embrace the medium. Think every time they feel the need to artificially cut the frame count to 12 fps to mimic 2d anime, but because there's no intentionality to it, it just reads as if your stream is broken. But new Trigun seems to have learned from those mistakes! I love Land of the lustrous, and getting the studio behind it to work on Trigun was a great idea. Ultimately I just wish we could get a well directed and written show that also looks good. Also JUSTICE FOR MILLY
