TL:DR for those who dont feel like reading another point of view in full (but please, dont just dismiss my comment or label me as a racist for not agreeing, If you're gonna argue, please do in good faith) its not her skin color, its she's poorly written and focusing so much on a poorly written character makes the rest of the show suffer for it. Want an example? Tell me what effect did Juste Belmont have on the story. Now in full, I hope you dont dismiss my comment and tag me a racist just beacuse I disagree, The issue is not that she is black, we all loved Isaac, the problem isnt even the change in personality or motivation intrinsically, we loved Hector and he's nothing like in the games. The problem isnt even with the show itself, we enjoyed Olrox, and pretty much all the villains well enough (although Im not sold on the main Erzabeth, we know nothing about her other than "im evil") the issue I had is her inclusion and changes created issues that had to be adressed in a way that took the spotlight off of Richter and Maria, making them underdeveloped and uninteresting at least for the first season, not making her Maria's sister while focusing so much on her made it so the only thing we truly know about Maria is she's into the revolution and she has summons for some reason. And Richter is placed on the background for so long we only know about his trauma. This is insufficient specially when compared with the ammount of personality that Trevor or Sypha displayed. Even on the first 8 episodes. Her African heritage magic is really cool! But I cant help but feel like im getting pandered to when her ancestral predecesors in the astral plane cannot talk about anything other than slavery, as if their culture wasnt more than freeing themselves from it, which is weird to me, I get its the french revolution but the ancestral african spirits cant think of anything more deep and core to the people other than something related to slavery? Her climactic battle against the slave master vampire was a coincidental encounter at the graveyard which ended in like 3 minutes beacuse he decided to have a snack right before dawn... Also she used a fence to build crosses even though it was implied in the previous show that crosses by themselves dont do anything to vampires and only blessed objects actually have an effect yet some metal fences in the shape of a cross could burn the guy??? Her implied romance with Richter is so nonsensical I needed a double take since there was more chemestry between Eduard and her, and there was ZERO chemestry with Richter. Hell, she hated his guts for having debilitating trauma and insulted him for being useless and not having magic. and the Richter and maria for being "kids that know nothing" yet now they have a thing for eachother??? So weird.

I watched it like a few months after it premiered because I had to see what the memes where about at the time. I had heard of Devilman before from the out of context clips of 80s/90s adaptation and some tv tropes and wiki info, I was not ready for the turn despite having it spoiled for me. That ending really was something. The theme song slaps too and the rap boy breaks in the episodes were really good. Even the art style really hit despite being meme'd into the ground. You clearly have good taste so I'm subscribing!

Bocchi is a show that's so far out of what I'd normally watch, but I deeply appreciate for having a good angle on social anxiety. Watching a show turn Bocchi's anxiety spirals into hilariously unhinged moments definitely eased the negative views I have about my own anxiety. I'll never stop recommending it to people.

All the characters do is cry and be boring. Annette is just particularly offensive because being back was a tool to overcome bad writing.
@nickl66413 ай бұрын
The thing though, it isn't just a race change. It's simply a character that shares the same name as a previously existing one in the franchise. Annette is just a character seeking revenge against someone she had to call master (and she isn't the only one who has done that over the history of the franchise). But the selective outrage that some people have seeing Annette in this series is exhausting.

In my opinion they could have avoided the drama if they would have swapped the names of Annette and Tera. Tera is like the Annette from the games (blonde, green dress, immediate connection to Richter and Maria, becomes a vampire, etc) The Annette we have in Netflix could have been called Tera and it would make a lot of sense because of her cool earth powers!

Everyone is outraged about a race change while I'm outrage because she tiks me in all the wrong ways while isaac was perfect. People accepted Isaac because he was a good character while annette is extremely annoying. Edit: im not a fan of the games so i didn't even notice there was a race change and i did watch all the 4 seasons of Castlevania but Nocturne i stopped at episode 3. Because Annette is annoying and the rest of the cast is boring except Terra Abbot and the black vampire lady.

This is the black anime retrospective we deserve! But speaking to Cannon Busters, I also believed it was average but never deserved hate. It seems like a case of "don't race swap or diversify pre-existing series, make original characters instead!" but then when original characters and stories are created they're also viciously hated on, it seems like black people can't win either way when it comes to making waves in animation.

I've been consuming fictional media/anime included, most of my life. A small Black child, former foster kid from 7 mile Detroit, enamored with endless possibilities these various fictional worlds could provide. Hilarious then, to see you talking about Black anime when the vast majority of Black people featured in these shows are given asian or caucasian features? Afraid to speak the truth are we? Afraid to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Afro Samurai did it correctly. We are proud of Afro. Fuck T'Challa, Wakanda, BLM and all you fake upper-middle class/elite Black people that use our communties plight to progress whatever agenda of yours that is the flavor of the month. Instead of championing this nonsense, we need the people in the positions available, to hold these studios to a higher standard. How about we illustrate some real Black people. Accurate physical traits, mannerisms and all? Why can we not have beautiful works of anime and manga that accurately reflect who and what we are and have become? Afro Samurai should be the norm in terms of how we are portrayed, not the exception. 7 mile taught me many things growing up, and spotting a fake is one of them. Sincerely, A Black American and fan of all fiction

You make good points but i do think sometimes we can't act like they're all flawless sometimes theres series that make me go "eh maybe that wasn't that great" Like criticism helps creators improve on their flaws constant compliments breed lack of evolution in their medium. I used to love Afro samurai but rewatching it I start to notice things I didn't before and I think afro should of just be a dream riley had in the boondocks.

God made only the HUMAN race. This division between humans based on skin color is satanic. Jesus (Truth) loves you. You're precious to Him and He wants to lead you to Heaven. Repent, precious, because only Truth can save you from lies and deceptions. Sin leads to Hell.
