You guys, Dance Moms was a MESS from start to finish, and I’m sure you’ve heard a LOT about some of the things that have gone down, but it’s truly shocking how traumatising this show was for the girls. From bullying and inappropriate performances to actual racism, the show literally had it all. So let’s just get into the dark history of how dance moms turned into hell for all contestants involved.

The moms too, although they aren’t any saint. Especially Christi and Kelly. The only 100% clean record one is Holly. The rest of them played into the drama and the trauma, some of them even critiqued the girls, and brought marriages and divorces into their arguments, even when that wasn’t in the production’s storyline.

Fun fact: part of Kelly’s lawsuit against Abby was how she told nia she didn’t want a tootie on her team. To cover it up.. it was cut out. The girls were all hugging Nia and crying . The producers gave them all iPads to excuse this situation. This is called the “iPad situation “ (this is a racist term. Tootie was the only black character on an 80’s show)

and before anyone says that they were locked under contracts. They were. But they only lasted until Season 6, with an OPTION to have it extended. This is why Melissa leaves, but the rest of the moms could've aswell, but they ACTIVELY chose to sign it and continue, if im correct.

Holly was definitely my favorite mom. That episode where Abby thinks she's insulting Nia by calling her a mini-me of her mom was nuts. I would be proud if Holly were my mom.

Kendall Vertes (Jill's daughter) said it herself that the girls were 8-11 years old and Abby would call them: "fat, skinny, washed up, ugly" etc. The amount of therapy the girls got after the show ended shows how much Abby's words and actions affected them. They also shared that the whole scripted drama between the moms and Abby sometimes turned into serious arguments and fights, the girls were locked up in the bathrooms or dressing rooms and waited for their mothers to pick them up and go home.

The people blaming the parents more than Abby are crazy. Yes, maybe sometimes the parents made it worse for the kids but it was Abby, that was abusing the kids and putting favoritism. It's also the producer's fault, since they directed the show and made Abby say some things but Abby still chose to say it and go too far. If you say it was the parents' fault for keeping their kids out there, they signed a contract with the show which means that they can't leave/very hard to leave.

@@Alyssa-pj8hlthey were terribly binded into their contracts especially the ogs and each of them tried to leave, even Melissa tried to officially leave in season 2 or 3. Every time they tried to leave the producers would threaten them with suing them or even take their kids. They had such a huge hand in the storylines and the drama. The production and Abby are the abusers of the show.

@@Alyssa-pj8hl They not only had the contracts with the producers they also had contracts with Abby especially in the early years. For season 4 Kelly and Christi didn't re-sign the contract to be with the ALDC and that wasn't enough to get them off the show (didn't want to sign that if they left during the competition season they would have to pay Abby $100,000 and also agree that the girls wouldn't gain more than 10 pounds), that is why Abby amped up how horrible she was to them in season 4, she knew that they couldn't do anything about it and if she had to have them there when she didn't want them then she could take it out on them. Christi has said that when Abby said that on the show she wasn't kidding and they had been looking at changing studios before the show started but there was something that if you were a title holder you had to do the next season with them (the way that it has been said I'm not clear if that is an Abby or a competition thing) and Chloe had won a title at the end of the previous season.

The original moms were tricked into singing a six season contract. It was originally supposed to be a documentary, but the producers changed it. The moms were always threatened by producers if they didn’t comply or make enough drama

Yeah a lot of these girls took horrible hits from Abby like this was disgusting and I did not blame any of the mom going off on Abby or fighting her because she asked for it. The way Abby went in on these girls who was clearly young and did not fully know who they were yet. Also how the hell Abby going to talk shit about these girls when she was ugly the whole time with that fucked up attitude. As well as Nia to always for the most part got it the worse specially with her weight and I was like really bitch she got thick legs from dancing all the time and plus she is black most of us got thick legs even when skinny.

i’ve gone to the aldc a few times since it closed and it’s SO depressing and honestly creepy. it’s run down and looks abandoned and probably much better reflects the reality of its past. i also drive past abby’s house every time i go to my boyfriend’s, it’s so weird to live in the same town where they all grew up knowing it could’ve been me, i don’t need more trauma 🥴🫠

Do you guys remember when she made them dress up in bad costume like electricity. And she even said it was one of her favorite dances, they were 8-9 or so. Then she gets disgusted because 15-17 year olds were doing a dance that was more appropriate for their age at the end of season 7. Like seriously Abby, your encouraging such bad behavior. She would rather have kids that are still in elementary school, publicly embarrass themselves with an inappropriate dance, then let girls that are plenty of age do a dance that is fit for them. The actual reason Christi left is because the Producers actually forced Christi (chloe's mum) to sign a contract that Chloe could not gain any more weight but they didnt so thats the reason they left. Also, on chloes birthday Abby told her to get a hair tie and fix her hair leading her to cry! ON HER BIRTHDAY....

All the girls went through unimaginable sh*t. It is insane that she has no shame. Chloe was quiet and she didn’t get the decency she longed for, maddie was a role model to all of them, nia worked to hard. Remember she said to nia that her braids weighed her down? Remember she made maddie do two dances and asked why wasn’t she happy if she was a winner? Remember she always called Chloe “not good enough”? She doesn’t stop. They were wrong to make comments on Abby’s weight. This is genuinely messed up. Genuinely. They always wore booty shorts, short crop tops, fishnets. And unnecessary racist comments to nia.

I wonder how traumatic it would be for these children and I hope they take care of their mental health and be confident in their skin and body. I really don t care what people woud tell about that Kelly situation. Because Kelly was right and not only that Kelly was actually her ex student so basiclly they knew eachother for years. And that Abby had the audacity to hate and harrases Pagie and tell Brooke that she is not good enough. Some of these comments are outrageous !! asking " why didn't they leave much sooner when they were disrespected ?? If that was my child I would've left . " or " these mother's are the reason why their OWN children have traumas . " Sorry luvs but there's a reason why they didn't leave early , they wanted their children to continue their dream with Abby Lee Miller !! But at the same time they signed a contract saying "If fault by leaving , there will be a $1,000 fund to pay before existing ." And at this moment , I don't think these mom's had that enough money to pay off that debt , earlier on those shows Christi also mentioned that she wishes to leave but she didn't have any money to pay this contract off as she left though , she had to stay on that contract for 2 whole years because she didn't pay off the rest of her debt . Holly also mentioned they were forced to quit their jobs in order to stay with their daughters , that was the reason why they didn't have any money nor a penny to pay off this contract .

“No you’re too tall!” Actually hit hard for me… I’ve been tall my whole life and currently 5’6 at 12. I’ve been insulted over my height, given weird looks just for being a kid. This also caused me to want to be short half my life. But I finally learned to love myself for it.❤

What is mad is short guys feel the same tall girls. Society and people can be very nasty. Just don't grow up and project onto other people. Good decent people wont care or have the need to make you feel bad.

Lol I love how all the mothers are going nuts on Abbey when they literally could have pulled their daughters out at any time, but they chose to keep them there for their 15 minutes, not talking about the kids 15 minutes either. Mothers are possibly worse because Abbey didn’t have children, she didn’t care… But the mothers subjected their own children to this ridicule.

It wasn’t for money. It was because they were binded to a contract that would literally threaten to not only sue them, but to take their daughters away as well. Nobody said they were saints, because they did bodyshame Abby when there are other things to shame her about, but that isn’t the reason why they aren’t good people. You sound VERY ignorant

I totally agree about everyone one is saying. And everything that anna opp said about the show. the only thing is that it barely mentioned Nia. As she was the only original black member of the show. IMAGINE the amount of cultural racism she faced. She probably has severe trauma and is fighting it. All of them are.
