Gwyneth Paltrow, actress and founder of the GOOP wellness brand, has made a countless number of controversial claims when it comes to the effectiveness of her products and personal health practices. This is an unethical attempt at making money that also puts her customer's health at risk. It's time to speak out against the wellness and supplement industry that uses celebrity spokespeople to generate billions of dollars.

Thank you for speaking up about women’s pain not being taken as seriously. When I was 11 I went through puberty. Then at 12 I started having kidney stones, but I wasn’t diagnosed for months because doctors assumed it was my period. Now I’m almost 40, and I’ve passed many stones. I now have a wonderful doctor who helps me with my chronic kidney stone condition. Turns out I’m genetically predisposed. * I should probably add that by the time I was diagnosed, they could see scarring that meant I’d already passed 3 stones and was on my 4th. This was within the span of several months while I was 12 years old. I’d estimate by now I’m easily in the double digits for how many stones I’ve passed. On the positive side, I have great pain tolerance. 😂 I’ve broken a toe and didn’t scream.

Oof, I've had one, and I don't want any more. Granted, my periods are more painful, and my migraines are more painful than even those, but I don't need more added pain on top of those. And if your kidney stones are more painful than mine was, glad your doc is helping! In my 20s, I had a doc tell me that I was wrong about my migraine symptoms, and that I was actually experiencing other symptoms (that I wasn't experiencing at all), so I stopped going to him. He'd been seeing me for migraines since I was 9! He knew my symptoms!

Kidney stones are no joke. My daughter suffered from abdominal pain from the time she was about 8. The doctor diagnosed her with "stress related anxiety", which under the circumstances, was a fair diagnoses to make. However, years later when she was 14, she started missing periods. The doctor wouldn't listen to me as I asked for endometriosis and PCOS testing. Finally, a year later, they sent her off for extensive testing. The radiologist was astounded at how many eggs were stuck to her ovary walls - she had PCOS. All those years we could have been more prepared. Now, she's on the pill and has no pain at all. Remember guys - birth control is used for more than birth control!

I was treated horribly by doctors when I was in my late teens early twenties. My vision had starting getting worse and I kept going to the eye doctor and they would increase my Rx. Then one day I started to not not color in my vision. I got upset and went back scared to death and the doctor said that it was a mental problem because I was being hysterical. Finally my godfather who was a doctor found someone for me to see and when they did the exam it turned out that I had an EXTREMELY rare case of glaucoma and they had to do emergency surgery. You can bet that I have raised my daughter to be her own advocate because that kind of thing still happens

Good for you for making this video about Paltrow’s harmful lunatic claims. Sadly, this kind of thing is rampant, as I discovered when I got breast cancer. You’d be astounded at how many people ranted to me about their medical industrial complex conspiracy theories and warnings not to do the chemo that saved my life. I heard all about how I caused my own cancer by a) wearing a bra, b) having a glass of wine with dinner, c) not being on a Keto diet, d) manifesting it with my fears, and on and on. Other people have, but his starting with why what she's doing is not only an issue but predatory was the best move. Tons of people defend it with "if people choose to buy it, then it's their problem" when she's just a predator attacking the prey with a limp leg. Companies like this rely on the insecurities of smaller groups and the lack of empathy from the larger, less affected ones. Most just make fun of it in a way that also makes fun of the people who fall for the scams. The scams that are backed by "I'm super relatable and wholesome" celebrities, have millions of dollars invested into them, and whole teams running them with the goal of fleecing vulnerable people.

I have had severe social anxiety and depression for over 14 years, at least 8 or 9 of them lost completely to mainly depression. You really put the nail on the head. @Beclos Bird My cousin essentially gave me that 'talk' today.. just get going, move on. I'm 50 & have had largely untreated chronic (serious) health problems for around 20 yrs now. By the time I was 25, I'd lost almost everyone I'd ever been close to or loved except my best friend (who I lost at 31) & my mom (who passed in 2019). I took care of a dear friend after my mom passed & lost her in 2020. Met my soulmate in Oct that yr. Lost another person in 2021. Then last yr lost my car, my home of 22 yrs and all my animals.. in 1 effing yr. Since Aug '22, I've been in a cramped bedroom at my Aunt's (never been close to), existing out of a few boxes & bags (I lost 90% of everything I'd ever owned & everything my mom owned). When my soulmate lost his mom last yr he withdrew & the relationship is all but lost (I'm in the US & he's in England & we never even got a chance to touch one another). My cousin remarked, "we gave you 2, then 3, months to get over things & pull yourself together & you haven't.. you won't." If you haven't gone without.. If you haven't lost everything.. If you haven't been totally wiped out financially.. If you haven't been broken in every way, then you cannot 'know' how to give advice & certainly shouldn't judge whether someone just doesn't have enough 'will' to 'make things happen'. And, she did this on the 25th anniversary of my dad's death no less.

One of the reason why there are so many fake marriages etc. Especially women going into marriage only to obtain some wealth .. same principle. When you love someone you are vulnerable, its leap of faith, but so many people take advantage of it. How many people are punished for it? Almost none .. the reward for taking advantage of someone is way bigger than the risk.

That thing about not taking a woman's pain seriously.. When my little sister was 16 she started complaining about a horrible headache, badly enough that our mother decided to take her to the ER. The Doctor's response? She's fine, just looking for attention. He was lucky our mom was between me and him, I very nearly attacked him. He dismissed us, and within an hour she'd lost control of the entire right side of her body. We had to drive to an ER in another town, over an hour away, to get her seen. Turns out she had encephalitis and would have died if we hadn't brought her in that same night. I've always wished my mom had sued, who knows how many other people he's treated like that..

When I was 11 my i had acute appendicitis. My mom took me to the regular doctors and then the next day to the hospital. Did a CT scan and everything. Both places told me it was period pain - because of my age they thought I couldn’t handle it I guess. My appendix ruptured - my mom followed her gut and days after this all started took me to a 3rd hospital where the physician finally diagnosed it after it was ruptured. I was in the hospital for like 2 weeks. So fucked up.

I think its wise to use discernment when it comes to anything that presents itself as "Healthcare". And that includes the medical model as we know it today. Everything should be held up to the light to see if it holds up, be that so called alternative therapies or the medical model. People would mock and ridicule anything that doesnt come from the medical model yet they wouldnt question the link between anti depressants and suicide or genital numbing. Everything should be questioned.....if it holds up, great but ive noticed that if some methods are even quationed the response is vitriolic and everything is done to shut you down

Yes, before Dr Mike even said it, I was going to say…the whole reason alternative medicine is rising in popularity (imo and from my own experience) is just the frustration we patients have with modern medicine and the modern healthcare system. What’s even more evil is that the rich who are shilling out their snake oil most likely don’t have to deal with the same issues because they have concierge doctors, and they take advantage of the frustrations of the middle class and poor who can’t afford to have a private doctor at their disposal.

@@cheddarsunchipsyes8144 I pretty much agree with your sentiments, but I understand where people come from in saying these things. Until I started birth control, my periods were literally the worst pain in my life. I had times where I could barely stand up, barely had the energy to do anything. Now, I understand men not being able to fully understand the pain because they literally can't experience it. But I had a female cousin who constantly made it out like I was attention seeking, and was trying to give me "advice" that didn't actually help. It feels like such a betrayal when someone of the same biological sex puts down others and spreads misinformation that can potentially cause harm to yourself and others of the same sex. I'm from the southern US and sexism is still very much a thing here. To a lot of women, it's important to band together, support, and advocate for each other because there are plenty of men that won't help us. You're totally right in that a scam is equally wrong, regardless of gender. I feel OP's comment is more directed at that feeling of betrayal.

@LabNYorkie Жыл бұрын
@saeveth I am so sorry for all that you've gone through. Whenever possible, bring someone to advocate for you. Make sure you add them to the HIPAA section as you're filling out information. Include their name, relation to you, their phone number and to what you are granting them access. I write (or upload depending on the forms): "I grant [person's name] permission to access all of my records including all of my test results, doctor's notes, nurse's notes, tech notes, films. Furthermore, [person's name] may speak to [specific doctor, imaging center or hospital] on my behalf to ask questions and receive full answers with no details withheld. This permission is to remain in effect unless and until I retract permission in writing." I then print, sign and date the form. Try to keep records in an easy-to-access format. For years, I kept all of my records in hard copy form only. I still present a hard copy of my present meds, doses, prescribing doctors, diagnoses, when diagnoses were made, symptoms, drug allergies, discontinued meds with reasons for discontinuing those meds under doctor's care. I include the name, address and phone number of my GP and my specialists. I include my pharmacy name, address and phone number. I include a photocopy of the front and back of my insurance card. The vaccinations that I've had in the last several years including the dates are included. Finally, at the top (under my name, address, insurance company + ID number), I note the reason for my visit (symptoms), the name, number and the relationship of 2 emergency contacts. My doctors have each told me that by reviewing this information and being able to scan it into my file, they've been able to get to testing and diagnosis faster. From time to time, I update this document so, if there's an emergency, I or someone else can quickly print copies for doctors, EMTs and my advocate. I have similar documents for both of my parents. This helped a lot during the height of COVID when no one was allowed to accompany my dad to the ER. The ER doctor who called was able to confirm the info in the document that was sent along with my dad to the ER and testing and treatment started right away. My goals with these documents are to reduce wasted time, reduce the chance of medical errors, and make it clear in a non-aggresive way that I know how to advocate for my family (and they know how to advocate for me). I've been misdiagnosed and I am disabled due to a surgeon who subsequently killed another patient weeks after leaving me disabled. I've learned how to be assertive. In addition to this hard copy document and copies kept in easily accessible electronic forms, I use my cell phone calendar and sometimes the memo to track certain info because you can search the memo and calendar by keywords. Being able to rapidly answer a doctor's questions by searching my calendar helps a lot. This isn't a fail safe, things can still go wrong. But, all of these things were learned via trial and error (It always helps to have an informed, calm yet assertive advocate with you when you are ill. I hope things go well for you from here on out and I wish you the best.

Thank you for acknowledging how the medical community has failed women. As well as addressing that one of the reasons the jade egg is dangerous is because it could cause toxic shock syndrome. I am allergic to tampons and pads, and would get toxic shock syndrome. This was in Iowa in the 90s and I straight up had 2 male Dr's tell me that my swollen vagina looked "fine" and when I asked if I could have TSS (I had read about it) I was told that it wasn't real. I was 13, Dr's told my parents I was getting all the kidney infections and other symptoms from having sex. (I was a virgin until i was 19.) My Roman catholic boomer parents went ballistic. And the lack of proper medical care has left me with problems i still deal with to this day. Long story longer, it is wonderful that a respected medical professional who has a respected media platform acknowledged these things.

Media doctors can be the worst WHEN they only care about notoriety and not their patients. My kidney doctor as I was going through kidney failure while having my child, was the worst as he appeared on the News in the city we lived and everything regularly. When I would call him because my legs were cramping, it was automatically, take potassium, your potassium is low. That is dangerous, not only for kidney function decline but heart as well (I have a murmur and other stuff). I did not know this so blindly did what this doctor said, as well as did a round of chemo while still on high doses of Prednisone, and almost bled to death because of it. This doctor is what led me into nursing since I didn't have the energy to become a doctor and go to school that long, and when I had to stop working as a nurse I got my pharmacy tech certification and tried to keep working then as well. Just couldn't keep working.... but I could use my education from keeping doctors and pharmacists from killing me before my medical mess does.

I work in phase 1 cancer clinical trial research. We quite literally only see patients with the worst prognosis that have exhausted all other means of treating their cancer, and volunteer to test new drugs that may or may not work/give them more time. Dr. Mike is absolutely correct, and that it is unfortunately not uncommon for us to meet patients who once had very treatable forms of cancer whose now last options are experimental treatments, all because they were led to believe things like teas, supplements, essential oils, etc. would cure their cancer. I almost lost it once in a tea store when a woman with cancer came in struggling and mentioned none of her cancer treatments were working, and the store owner proceeded to sell her on some tea that would "flush out all toxins" and "cure anything, including cancer". These people have NO IDEA how dangerous and impactful the misinformation they are spreading is, just trying to make a buck at someone else's expense. I can't thank Dr. Mike enough for highlighting this issue. I, for one, particularly appreciate his hard work stopping this nonsense.

Giving yourself an enema everyday whether coffee or other substance is ridiculous and you should see a doctor if you’re so backed up you need an enema to poop. Just go drink a cup of coffee and let nature take its course. Paltrow really should have her stuff taken down as a lot of it is dangerous and just plain ridiculous.

The medical community, even female docs, nurses, etc. often treat women horribly. I was hospitalized for over 2 weeks with 2 broken vertebrae and a broken rib and had to beg to even get ibuprofen. They only gave OTC Icy-Hot patches mostly. When they took me for CAT scans, I told them I was going to vomit from pain. They didn't believe me until the inside of their CAT scan looked like the Exorcist movie. I have many more such stories. Stay safe, everyone!

@@jogighopa I’m very sorry you had such a painful experience. Oddly enough, my FIRST experience with the negligence was with a female Obgyn after I had delivered my 3rd child who weighed 9.5 lbs with no anesthesia. I returned several months later for a visit to discuss my extremely difficult and painful periods. She disregarded and disrespected me. I stayed for another two years in the practice and she was my OB for my 4th pregnancy. She detected an issue very early in my pregnancy. It required close supervision throughout the pregnancy. Thankfully, my child was born healthy and was monitored for the first year without issue. I will say she was a great OB and clinically; she was a great doctor. However, her bedside manner, concern for me as a patient, and our ideals were not in line with each other. I then Changed to male doctor that I stayed with until he retired and was lucky enough to find another and incredibly fantastic male Gyn that I have had ever since. He performed several surgeries on me and discovered that I had fibroids and undiagnosed endometriosis. I tell you all this to try to encourage you to find another doctor. It can be extremely important to your health. You have to be an advocate for your own health. I understand how frustrating and frightening this can be. You can walk out on any doctor that doesn’t suit your ideals or doesn’t treat you as a whole. Not all doctors are right for you just because they have the certification. I promise you matter enough to find one that does work for and with you and they are out there.

I met an older man yesterday, a veteran, who has been diagnosed with rectal or colon cancer, but won't find out which cancer until his next appointment in SEPTEMBER. He was not starting treatment in Sept, that he knew of. I could see by his expression that he was afraid that it would be too late by then. I asked him why such a long wait and he told me that it's the way the Veteran's Hospital works. It sickens me that our government hospitals treat our military veterans like they are already too damaged and not worth saving. The government officials should be required to use the VA hospitals. But we all know that they would receive special treatment no matter where they went.

They are sent out to fight someone, it seems like the profile stays the same as someone doesn't get sent out to war by people that ultimately care about your personal health. It's also possible they're under-funded because it's like giving to charity, barely anyone does it, I don't know. At least that they aren't giving care by anyone because they've served their purpose, so if they're funded by the government they get a tiny slice of the budget. I personally have no care as the U.S. invades other countries and kills whoever they want under whatever pretence and acts like a world police, but it's interesting that they are treated similarly by their own countrymen.

From my understanding the bra issue is more to do with the metal underwire in many. There was a concern that the metal may have been picking up some kind of electrical or radio wave similar to any metal antenna. Metal underwire bras come onto the market at the time that breast cancer numbers were growing across the populations in first world. ( 80's/ 90's) The metal underwire is the concern is the same as the living around major electrical grid transmitters and the mobile phone concerns. Things seem to morph into all sorts of different ideas, but having something blocking blood and lymph flow anywhere is not healthy for a body to always have. I personally do not bother with magazines like goop and agree with the general consensus that it is snake oil, but it is always worth digging deeper into realities of ideas AND most importantly realise weatern medicine in general is often extremely damaging and the statitics are there for all to see. The soft bras are the ones to wear at night which is probably what you naturally do anyway.

She suffered through all the cons of chemo and didn't even get to reap the pros of it because she started so late in the stages. At the end of the day as much as I tried to convince her, she was set on her ways because she was convinced by that one guy who got lucky and now thinks he's some sort of miracle worker. I have a feeling breasts used to be supported just fine on their own, but maybe now taking away that need by using bras, they have become weaker. Like not training and being weak, as you don't use the areas and they weaken, down to a point. I don't train and have almost never done so and I'm not a pile of bones on the floor. But they aren't strong if going against someone that has trained, presumably. Never fought anyone, wouldn't know. I would be curious how I would fare against different stages of a trained woman, if I can beat any of them as an entirely untrained man. Obviously I move around and lift some light stuff here and there in my life, but no deliberate training and nothing heavy done in other parts like in a work environment. At best I move my legs up and down a lot when sitting down. I believe there are videos of it and the claimed end result was that the trained women lost.
