I love this series and it’s great but if you think about it these are all heavily gluten based meals. As someone with celiac disease and feeding my family it’s not practical. I don’t mind opting out of the carbs for the family but then it almost defeats the purpose of an economically friendly meal. I know that’s not the majority of the population but a lot of people who have dietary restrictions don’t do it but choice-I certainly don’t! Either way very carb and gluten heavy. I do appreciate the ingenuity and creativity tho!

One valuable thing I have learned in this series is that cooking is not to follow rigid recipes but to improvise with what you got. I haven't done any Frankie's recipe yet (because I live in Asia, indigents vary) but the way of thinking has helped me finish several dishes I wouldn't image in the past, and of course under a 2 $ budget.XD

I've made stuffed peppers before. The trick I find is par cooking them in the oven brushed with a little oil and herbs then stuffing them and finishing cooking. Sometimes the filling can hinder the underside of the pepper from cooking properly. I use mozzarella or feta something easily melted and a bit of cheddar, and pre fried mushrooms, tuna from a can and spring onions.

I recently suffered a heart failure. After returning from the hospital, I was put on a low sodium diet. In measurement, that is no more than 2000 mg in 1 day. They I am throwing down the gauntlet and challenging you to figure out a week's worth of meals that would fit into a low sodium diet.

Celery salt it might give the taste you need with less to no sodium depending on manufacturer.
@Clickformain

Look up the Dash diet which is sodium controlled diet. You don't have to cut out salt totally because you do need some sodium in your diet. Staying away from processed foods and eating out are the worst. My husband has heart failure and diabetes so unfortunately l know too much about this subject. Making your food from scratch like Frankie does is healthier than ready made grocery items. Don't get discouraged because it is hard to change your lifestyle. Try Mrs.Dash regular seasoning it's salt-free and tastes good.
@keiths.9239
@keiths.9239 4 жыл бұрын
There is a product called no salt. It flavored with potassium instead of sodium. But use it sparingly as it has alot of potassium. If you are on any supplements you might not can use it. Also there are lots of ways to cook without salt. I got a early warning for heart problems and have been on the low sodium diet for years. The trick is to use other spices more. Like garlic powder. Read the ingredient list to make sure it doesn't have salt.

i really like this series, but find it so unrealistic for those in poverty or actually struggling to put food on the table. how about for those of us that only have $12.50 a week per person for food? in this video, almost $150 was spent for the whole week! if you divide that by 4, that's $37.50 per person. that's just not possible for many people in the U.S.. i would like to see a meal plan for the whole month that could accommodate the budget that i and so many people that i know have to work with.

cost and budget also change from state to state, it's a big country. the ideas can be applied and altered to fit lower budgets, or, maybe they don't need to be altered at all, maybe the cost somewhere other than ny or california is just lower. that's the idea.

He only counts the portion in the price, but you can get some produce really cheap at small grocery stores (especially if its in a low economic area) a lot of things are priced by the pound so as long as you compute that your good. Giant frozen veggies are also nice as its like maybe $7 for 5lbs (which is a lot of veggies) and then rice is really cheap for how much it makes and bulk beans (rather than canned) are typically cheaper. Dollar Stores like Dollar Tree and stuff will have a few of the things too, not as much, but sometimes

The current (April 2023, since I just found this video) USDA guidelines have the "thrifty" plan at $224 a week for a family of 4...I recommend if you have to go way tighter than that, to look at resources in your area like food pantries, or government programs like SNAP and WIC. They are there to help. Everyone deserves to eat.
